To have gotten the ick with my partner over his drinking habits?

So this is likely a me problem as I have mild OCD and often get irritated at small things that I know aren’t a real problem, I never say anything because I know it’s my issue not theirs. Looking for some perspective on this one though because it’s really putting me off my newish partner (of 5 months).

He has a lot of good points but the fact that he drinks soft drinks/fizzy pop all day long out of the bottle is really putting me off. I can’t even articulate why, it sort of feels embarrassing somehow? He also pulls his face at veg and eats sweets and chocolate constantly, he’s not overweight though.

I haven’t said anything and just tried to put it out of my mind because I don’t trust my own judgement on what’s annoying and what isn’t, but today we went for a day out together and he pulled a 2 litre bottle of Coca Cola out of his bag and started drinking from it in public. I felt sick and mortified, I didn’t want to be seen with him and I said I had a headache so that we could leave early.

Would that really put you off a partner or is my mind just blowing it out of proportion?

I'm 64 and would describe it as fizzy pop because that's what it is.
The eating and drinking habits of this manchild sound like those of a three year old though.

Wow you'd not be able to deal with 90% of the adults I know. We all drink fizzy drinks every day!

Most adults I know don't drink fizzy drinks every day unless you count tonic water and sparkling wine in this. They all drink the occasional sweet fizzy drink - I had a coke with my curry at the weekend, but my friends have grown out of drinking these kind of drinks.

I'm still amused you think people grow out of fizzy drinks and fizzy drinks are immature
What are non-alcohol drinkers allowed to drink then?
Must they sit there with just water?

This thread is batshit 😂

Why can't grown adults drink milk, coke or squash? Confused

You can't drink fizzy drinks because they're too unhealthy...
But a nice, healthy glass of milk is childish

ttcat37 · 03/05/2023 09:29

The poor eating habits rather than specifically the fizzy pop would be the deal breaker for me. Imagine going to dinner with friends or family and bringing boyfriend, having to explain in advance that he doesn’t eat vegetables. I would be too embarrassed.

Personally I drink mostly water throughout the day, sometimes bother infusing it with lemon or other fruits. Different herbal teas depending on what time of day it is, iced tea and coffee, fruit juice.

I don’t like drinking milk or alcohol but I do have a glass of SF vimto with meals, I think I just find it more palate cleansing than water.

I’m not anti-softdrinks, I think my main issue is just the 2 litre bottle thing and how unhealthy and bad for your teeth it is to drink them constantly like pp’s have said.

From what I’ve heard over the years a lot of people find drinking milk disgusting rather than childish.

How on earth can someone drink fizzy juice? You mean they are drinking gone off orange/apple juice which has made it fizzy? How utterly bizarre

People ìn different regions of the UK use different expressions believe it or not.

How does your OCD affect you? Has it been diagnosed or just a turn of phrase you use?

Addicted to fizzy drinks and avoids veg. Is he 12? No thanks.

I KNEW the OCD police would be here soon. It is perfectly possible to have 'mild OCD' you know.

And???

That doesn't explain anything. Juice is fruit juice, the juice of fruit so if it is fizzy it must be off. I am seriously confused!

There's something childish about drinking fizzy drinks every day as an adult?

Why? Should we only drink tea and coffee and alcohol?

Wow you'd not be able to deal with 90% of the adults I know. We all drink fizzy drinks every day!

That stuff is absolute garbage for your health, and you can drink water not just tea/coffee/alcohol.

It actually isn’t, you have to meet a certain threshold to be diagnosed with OCD, there’s no “mild OCD” diagnosis’s. As someone who lives with OCD it’s not nice to see people who are neat/tidy pretend they have OCD. No one would say “omg I’m so schizophrenic!” But apparently it’s fine with OCD.

Ahhh adults must drink plain water all day long ...

Americano75 · 03/05/2023 11:35

Using the word 'juice' to describe fizzy drinks is a Scottish thing.

Of course you can have mild OCD - the symptoms and impact aren't the same for everyone. Please do not gatekeep disorders.

In parts of Scotland people refer to fizzy drinks as juice. It is regional dialect. I'm cringing at you writing "How utterly bizarre!" about it.

MN is so wierd

Americano75 · 03/05/2023 11:50

I love fizzy flavoured water. Where do we stand on that?

FrenchandSaunders · 03/05/2023 11:51

Milk is full of pus and antibiotics so not particularly healthy at all, meant for baby cows.

I wouldn't like to stroll round with my DH drinking a 2 litre bottle of coke either, not sure why, just seems odd. I'm more than happy to sit and drink a few pints with him though 😁

The pus thing is a myth. I've worked on dairy farms. A cow that has mastitis is milked separately, and the milk discarded.

Cringe away 😂I am certainly not cringing as there's nothing to cringe about.

It IS utterly bizarre anyone would refer to non fruit juice as "juice" it isn't regional "dialect" it's just they've got it wrong.
