NHS Doctors refused evacuation from Sudan by British Government - DISGUSTING!

Shameful and shocking that NHS doctors should be turned away from evacuation flights from Sudan, simply because they have British residency, but are not British nationals. Just watching Newsnight on catchup and I was so enraged that I couldn't keep watching. I really hope that this matter has been put right since Newsnight aired yesterday. A medic who served the British people at Manchester Royal Infirmary through the pandemic was escorted out of the airport where he had arrived for evacuation, wanting to return to his work as a registrar. There are apparently over 20 doctors known to be in a similar position (having visited families for Eid - many with young children). The doctor who was interviewed described the situation as "disappointing" - I would use stronger vocabulary.
WE SHOULD ALL BE RAISING THIS WITH OUR MPs TODAY!

Why do you think taking a slightly different set of highly qualified people is dumbing down? The applicants turned down are hardly shabby. The next tranche would be fine. @StorminaStarmug . The bar is artificially high! My friend became a dr with BCD at A level. Obviously a while ago but she wasn’t Einstein.

As in any profession, selection is not perfect. Not all doctors are perfect (or even good) It’s inevitable. Wait until you see how the elderly are treated (or not). Not me. (I pay) Family members.

My guess is that you must be around the same age as my DF, who is a retired doctor. I mentioned your supposed BCD at A Level doctor friend. He said never would anyone have been accepted for a UK medicine course with those grades. It seems that your own notion that 'you don't have to be Einstein to be a doctor' could be distorting your recollection of the actual facts.

This was of course years ago! However it’s still about passing interviews and assessment tests. As my friend’s mum had just died her actual offer was EE. It’s not always been AAA and above because, as so few ever got this years ago, there would never have been many doctors! They were not worse doctors for not being AAA plus. With grade inflation, no one knows who is actually talented. Hence you could take the next tranche below those selected and still have great doctors. As contextual offers show.

My dentist got ABB and was accepted 25 years ago but would never get through now. There is a difference between ABB in old money and BCD though. I just don't believe that. With grade inflation who knows who is actually talented in anything at all if you take that line of though? However the human cost stakes are higher than for most careers if the bar is dropped too low for doctors. Not the case with a management consultant! Your comment regarding taking the tranche below being okay as demonstrated by contextual offers suggests you don't understand contextual offers. These 'lower tranche' applicants are just as achieving as the 4 A star ones from much better schools.
