Just as the subject says, I’ve watched nearly all of them on Netflix. Really could do with some more suggestions. Thank you 😊

Do you have a favourite sub-genre OP?!

I flit between paranormal/zombie/gory. But tbh I enjoy any horror film if it’s scary enough 😅

The Strangers. Absolutely petrified me

Popped on here to say the same thing and I've seen A LOT of horror films. I found the whole film terrifying & it stil give me chills now when I think about it!

midsomermurderess · 27/04/2023 22:26

I really like 28 days later and the alternate endings. Do you feel hopeful/lucky? Also full of, well scattered with, wry humour.

Huria · 27/04/2023 22:26

Both the 28 films are great I agree. So glad you like them OP! I remember watching the trailer for 28 weeks and just being blown away. It's a great trailer. Anyone else think this? I mean I think it stands in its own right. (I love the film as well obvs)

UnctuousUnicorns · 27/04/2023 22:27

"I highly recommend 'Creep' from 2004 (there are a few movies called Creep). It's a British/German horror set in the London underground. Really good."

Oh, definitely! Not too gory either, apart from that scene. I like chills without too much gore.

All Hallows Eve terrified me. I watched it one night while DH was away, I was so scared, I sat shaking after it while I watched and listened to nice, relaxing songs and videos by my favourite singer, to calm me down. Fuck Art! I'm such a wuss! 😅

I remember watching Creep years ago with my boyfriend & it completely freaked me out but was a really good film. We both loved that & talk about it now & then when horrors are mentioned

The green inferno
Apocalypto (not classed as horror)

The Strangers is another great one. It’s not too hectic as in loads of different scenes in different places but keeps you focused throughout from what I can remember. Very ominous. Loved that one too

What am I missing about this film?! A few people have commented on it now. I absolutely fucking hated it. I mean, no word of a lie, I just wanted them all to die so I could have done with it. It seriously pissed me off. Shit characters, shit shifting story "oh it's about this, no it's about that but we're not going to explain, we're just going to add another bit onto the arc for no fucking reason, oh are you losing interest? Ok here's this... " Tossers

ZellyFitzgerald · 27/04/2023 22:33

Proper scary gore......The Green Inferno.

I still have flashbacks every so often.

There's a scene where a man is utterly butchered and has his eyes removed.

Oh my god, it's awful!

LatteOneShotplease · 27/04/2023 22:33

I found a film called "Long Weekend" quite horrifying - in a human versus nature way.... Set in Australia, a bickering couple camping off the beaten track, using and abusing nature and the environment. Until it bites back. Great ending.
The film "Old" is quite unsettling and a few shock moments.

I think they are both on Prime. And there has been a remake of Long Weekend, for which I have the DVD but not watched yet. Something about the setting for the first one added to the feeling of discomfort.

It's one thing to think we are able to watch these films in daylight, but they stay in your mind after darkness falls............

not a film but the series “them” is one of the most disturbing horror shows I’ve ever watched.

The green inferno
Apocalypto (not classed as horror)

I have seen both of these, once only. Could not watch again.

PurpleFlower1983 · 27/04/2023 22:35

Another vote for It Follows. Get Out and Us also.

It's awful awful - and just gets worse and worse, until one of the worst possible scenes I have ever seen.
It is uncomfortable from the outset with the white vs Black situation - and certainly one of the characters deserves her fate at the hands of the milkman. But the backstory is just so so awful.

NooNooHead1981 · 27/04/2023 22:38

I used to be a real horror film fan and watched loads when I was younger. My dvd collection has some pretty scary ones, though I don't want to watch them much these days.

Think the worst ones were Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hostel. Both very gory and the Texas one I always have to switch off at a certain point and can't seem to watch it beyond that part as it's so bloody awful!

Here's a photo of some of my dvd horror film collection 😄😱

28 data later gave me nightmares for years. My nightmares even now are sometimes on this theme.

Century321 · 27/04/2023 22:38

I really enjoyed the witch. Paranormal activity terrified me. (Possession stuff really freaks me out). The 1979 amityville horror. Now I've thought about it I won't be able to sleep. I'll have the scary music on my brain haha

My husband tried to get me to watch it but I was too freaked out by the trailer 😆 so glad I didn't!!

Rebuildingconfidence · 27/04/2023 22:39

Vivarium.

I love the horror genre but have seen so much now I tend to get bored easily.

I watched Vivarium while home alone one night and it terrified me, properly freaked me out. I was even scared to Google it there when I couldn't remember the name.

NooNooHead1981 · 27/04/2023 22:41

Oh God, just thought of another horrific one... Human Centipede... that's pretty damn awful.😱😳😱

PatientZorro · 27/04/2023 22:41

I agree with the It Follows fans too, such a good film and so original.

And 28 Day Later is brilliant….I did a secret cinema immersive type experience of that once in a big disused factory in the East end. It was all a big act of course, but I was genuinely scared, running in panic as snarling zombies raced behind us. Fun times! 🧟‍♀️

UnctuousUnicorns · 27/04/2023 22:41

As I've said in a previous post, I don't like too much gore. I did like The Ring, not too gory, but very chilling. Taking notes for any suggestions for non gory chillers!

HeartshapedFox · 27/04/2023 22:42

Not traditional horror as such, but I came out of the cinema feeling traumatised after watching Pan’s Labyrinth, and I’ve seen most of the films mentioned here. I couldn’t stop thinking about for ages.
28 Days Later is one of the best films ever made.

Hawkins003 · 27/04/2023 22:43

Halloween season of the witch, they had Halloween masks that when a signal was broadcast the heads turned to snakes. Very strange
