Which cooking appliance should I buy?

My ancient cooker blew its fuse and I obviously have to stop using it before it kills me! I can't afford a new one + delivery, etc, right now.

I think I'm going to get a portable induction hob - I've seen a two-ring one on offer - and either an air fryer or a mini-oven. I live alone but do quite a bit of 'proper' cooking, including full-size roasts which I then cut up & freeze.

The air fryer's a Tefal EasyFry 2in1 EY505827 Air Fryer & Grill, costs about £80.
The mini-oven's a Klarstein, £120.

I'm with you, @SittingintheSunshine, but it's too difficult! No car, I live upstairs, old one would have to be disposed.

Bump for after-dinner MNers. DID YOU COOK YOUR DINNER IN AN AIRFRYER?? Can an airfryer replace a proper oven, or should I get the small version of a proper oven (at least it's obvious how to use that!)

Halogen oven , about £40 and can cook everything in it , I’ve had one for years .

An air fryer is just a small fast fan oven. For your situation you might be best off looking at the capacity of the 2 options to see what would suit you best.

Thanks - what capacity can realistically handle a chicken with spuds? I've read loads of articles, but user reviews tend to contradict the claims. I suspect nearly all the articles are sponsored!

I had one ages ago, but kept burning things and the element was a pig to clean. How do you get yours to play nice?

I regularly do a roast in my air fryer, but it's a dual drawer ninja.

It gets used at least once a day.

Thank you! I'm still as confused as hell. I've learned that the only air fryers everyone loves are really expensive. So that's a no. But fairly large airfryers and mini ovens are both available at around £100-120, which seems more attainable.

I'd go for a remoska as I can't think of a single think you can't cook in it.

Multicooker - they do baking, roasting and liquids. Lots of flexibility that way.

I’ve got a Panasonic combination worktop oven its fantastic only use the hob in the main oven, it’s a microwave, convection fan oven to 220, and grill .

Highly recommend the Instant Pot Versazone air fryer. It has a larger capacity than quite possibly all of the others. I now use it for everything except large pizza (although it will do that too if I cut it in half). Just treat it like a small oven 👍

That Clever Chef looks good, @negomi90 👍🏼 The massive options with pressure cookers look even better, but probably not £100 worth of better for my purposes.

I’ve been using them for about 10/15 yrs , I’m on my third or fourth one . I did have a Ninja foodie for a while but I gave it away as my halogen was soo much better . I don’t find it burns things at all .

I got a basic electric cooker from currys. Think it was 230.00 with delivery, installation and they took the old one away. It is a good cooker. Might move next year so did not want to spend a lot. They do deliver to flats too. You can have it on buy now, pay later too so no interest.

That thread was really helpful, @HappiDaze, thanks. after reading all the posts, a few thousand Amazon reviews and half a dozen air fryer instruction sheets - I've decided to get the German mini-oven.

It just seems like a huge faff, turning things over, fitting everything in, shaking baskets, revising times and, if you get a multi-function one, pressure cooking then baking I don't need a device to do steaming because, you know, I've got pans!

Depends on the space, we bought a mini oven, only just fit under the kitchen cabinets, wasn’t impressed by the performance either. We bought an airfryer, it’s used once or twice everyday. So pleased with it.

I'd also suggest this. Use mine a lot, as you can do chips, jacket potatoes etc very cheaply as obviously the microwave speeds up, the grill browns off and so saves ££ on electricity.
