Do I want one?

Do you use yours?

The one he's linked is 12L, is that big enough to cook for four?

What do you cook in yours?

Thanks!

My mum bought us one as a present and it's the best present we ever received

Used almost everyday since

Decafflatteplease · 21/04/2023 21:45

We've got one, well actually got 2 and we use them every single day!

Sen DC will only eat chicken nuggets so every night I was literally putting the oven on to cook 4 chicken nuggets.... no longer.... whack them in the air fryer and its so easy!

Ended up buying another one so we can cook different things at the same time, ours are both quite small but you can get larger ones with 2 draws which would do the job.

I think the word fryer is a misnomer really, it's basically a small very effective oven. So generally whatever you cook in the oven you can cook in the air fryer. Our oven is basically a cupboard now 😂

Love it.

My DS bought us one for Christmas and I don't know how I've managed without it!

Mine's a 5.5ltr and it's fine for 3 or 4 adults.

RaininSummer · 21/04/2023 21:49

Mine also does pressure cooking, slow cooking and other stuff. Use it several times a week.

CornishTiger · 21/04/2023 21:49

Do you have a link to what he’s suggested buying?

Quirrelsotherface · 21/04/2023 21:53

About 5 years ago my dad wanted to buy me an air fryer too. I said no dad, as they're only good for cooking chips and we don't really eat chips.

Fast forward to December just gone and my DDad sadly passed, I bought myself a Ninja 2 drawer to see what all the fuss was about.

It has honestly revolutionised my life!! Roast dinners (full chicken, roast potatoes, carrots) , fish, chicken fajita mix, curry. You can cook most things in half the time and the food is tastier.

Should have listened to my dad. Do it!

PenelopeTheShroudWeaver · 21/04/2023 21:56

I love mine!

I have tried both a traditional one, and my current one which is more of a mini oven with shelves, and I get a lot more use out of the new one. It's easier to cook a full meal in it and having several shelves means everything crisps up nicely even if you have a lot of food in there

Just to add an alternative view, I really don't like mine.
I have a Ninja 15 in 1 and I feel I've had to relearn how to cook. I keep burning things in it and I feel like I spend any time saved in cooking I'd spent looking at the recipe book to try to work it out how to use it!
Our normal oven broke and I had to use the Ninja for a week and I nearly threw the thing out. It was infuriating!
I'm quite a good cook and I felt it wasn't very intuitive to use if you want to anything beyond the most straightforward recipes.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 21/04/2023 22:16

Hardly use my oven since I got mine.

cherrypied · 21/04/2023 22:20

Ninja dual max and it is idiot proof really

Open put in food and cook

Can do a whole chicken in one side and roasts in the other

Slimjimtobe · 21/04/2023 22:20

I’ve a 6l swan retro air fryer and literally use it daily

i Only use my oven for baking buns and cooking roast beef slowly but I cook roast chicken, salmon and everything and anything in the air fryer - it’s brilliant

crazeecatlady · 21/04/2023 22:21

I've got a remouska (Lakeland) which is different to an air fryer, but cooks anything you can cook in an oven and is so stingy with energy

Yup, ninja 15 in 1 also.
Used twice to see what everyone was raving about.
It now lives in the cupboard under the stairs.

I really fancy one too but I’m just wondering how long you know to cook things for? Normal things give instructions for oven/grill/ hob timings .
are you just guessing?

MissLucyLiu · 21/04/2023 22:39

Air fryer cult ! I am all for it! It’s absolutely fantastic !

I agree with you, I wish the manufacturers would put Fahrenheit, centigrade and air fryer timings. I go for about 50% of the time and that's been okay so far.

ETref · 21/04/2023 22:50

For me, an airfryer is one of those products that, once you've got one, you can't imagine not having one.

We have a ninja dual drawer and we use it multiple times a week. We only use the oven about once a month now. I was quite intimidated by it at first and it took me a while to get to grips with temperatures and timings but I couldn't do without it now. I recommend getting a meat thermometer if you don't already have one as, if you don't get the temperature right, it browns things on the outside quickly so they looked cooked when they're not on the inside.

Same, wouldn't be without it. I use the pressure cooker mostly

Lysianthus · 21/04/2023 22:54

I have a tiny one, and love it. Your father is a diamond, don't refuse his lovely offer!

HappiDaze · 21/04/2023 23:24

Other than what's already been listed by PP what are people cooking in them.

Is it mainly useful if you have younger DC and need to cook in small amounts ie 4 nuggets as per PP and a bit quicker than an oven

HighInfidelity · 21/04/2023 23:27

I only use mine because my flat is too small for an oven. If I had an oven I would go back to that immediately.

JenniferL27 · 21/04/2023 23:30

@determinedtomakethiswork We use these conversions

SorePaw · 21/04/2023 23:46

I have been dithering for about a year (possibly longer).

I decided if I was getting one it would be the ninja 2 drawer, but I was at a friends & it looked huge & it's very heavy.

I don't 'do' gadgets and my kitchen is tiny so I figured it would be silly to get one.

then I went into my neighbours & they have just got a 'sur La table' one from Costco. It looked Much more compact & they said it was great.

so the next day I went to Costco & bought one! I didn't check the list I'd made of things To check 🙄

however, so far I'm loving it! I live alone & resented putting the oven on for half a dozen sausages or some roast veg, and sausages & veg cooked together never worked as things took Far too long and were semi roasted/semi steamed (it's a very old oven).

this cooks the (cauldron veggie sausages properly) and in the separate second drawer the veg are lovely.

it makes nice toast/toasted sandwiches.

im trying out different 'modes', but so far 'air fry' is winning hands down.

I need to get some bits for inside (racks & silicon liners I think.

& it was 'only' £79.99 + vat, so just under £100.

haven't tried chips yet (as I low carb). But my neighbour says it's brilliant 🤣🤣
& Mr Tesco 'might' have delivered a couple of potatoes & some frozen onion rings. Research you understand! 🤣🤣

I fear it coukd we'll lead me astray!!

downsides so far...

  • eaten too much in the name of testing!
  • too easy to cook yummy csrbs
