Drinking before school pick up

Is it wrong?
Have you ever done it?

I live abroad and summer is approaching, it’s hot, tourists are here, beautiful days at the beach, lunches out, cocktails etc
Dd started school in September and I started back working part time, including some weekends, it’s all busy and rushed and I’ve worked it so I can have a Friday off.
A couple of friends suggested we started a weekly yoga class and then go for lunch and a glass of something/cocktail
Would this be weird? To then go to school pick up? I’d walk as live very nearby.
Just feel weird about it, getting paranoid a teacher would smell my breath or something 🙈
I would not be drunk obviously.
It just wasn’t the same in the U.K. but it’s v different here.
Aibu to feel weird about it?

One of the things I dislike about the DC having lots of activities in the evenings/afternoons is that I can't do this becuase I inevitably have to drive somewhere. If I didn't, I 100% would!

Absolutely no issues I live in the UK and used to finish work at 1pm when my son was in primary school and at least weekly met my school mum friends for lunch which always included wine.

A glass of wine/one cocktail a week is too much? Good lord.

Do you really think this is the only time in the week the OP drinks alcohol?

What if it isn't?

This is such a weird thread. You’ve obviously made it knowing everyone will be on your side. It’s ridiculous.

YunaBalloon · 27/04/2023 19:11

As long as you aren't on your way to drunk, and you aren't driving then it's fine.

I've had a glass of 2 of wine over lunch before now. Very pleasant.

Wowwhatasunset · 27/04/2023 21:56

@ily0xx What?

This is hardly worth arguing about. I'm told not to make a fuss about one cocktail a week - but the proposed drink would be in addition to whatever else the OP drinks, so I'm not going to say "no harm could possibly come from this" as I don't know how much the Op drinks. Most of us could do with drinking less than we do. I'm not into all the "wine o'clock" mums tropes and it's not as uncommon as you might think for women to have problems with drink - including drinking and driving with kids.

fliptopbin · 27/04/2023 23:17

I would be worried that the teacher might speak to me at pickup and smell alcohol on my breath, and then it would be a safeguarding red flag.

Wowwhatasunset · 27/04/2023 23:18

@fliptopbin That’s what worries me!

All fine! Enjoy ☀️🍹

DrMeredithGrey2023 · 27/04/2023 23:26

I think my kids would be over the moon if I started having a midday cocktail before pick up....it's might make me more chill for the rush home to start dinner etc 🤣

elliejjtiny · 27/04/2023 23:31

Personally I wouldn't but that's mainly because I am a total lightweight and feel light headed after half a glass of pimms.

SorePaw · 27/04/2023 23:38

After another chilly, grey, wet day, that sounds utterly lovely!

Go, Enjoy, no one's going to be reporting unless you turn up staggering around, slurring your words or in your dressing gown with a drink in your hand.
