To tell manager at 8 weeks pregnant?

I'm 8 weeks pregnant and not even told my family. The father isn't supporting/talking to me.

I'm an anxious person and think that at 39 than I maybe too old to have a safe and healthy baby etc. So I'm trying not to get too attached. It's also not a good situation with the guy I was briefly dating.

Should I tell my manager? I have a 121 with him tomorrow.

Is there a reason to tell him, like are you sick or needing anything to help at work? if not I'd personally wait a couple more weeks.

Unless your job role needs to change due to pregnancy (aire stewaddess/prison officer etc) then DO NOT TELL THEM!

Do you need any adjustments at work yet? I told my manager at 12 weeks for 3rd, and didn’t tell a setting till I was nearer 20.

The other 2 I told very early, but I was working somewhere dangerous, colleagues needed to know why I might remove myself.

You don't have to tell your employer till 25 weeks. I guess it depends on what your work involves or you need assistance with something and a risk assessment needs to be carried out.

I didn't tell my manager until I was about 22 weeks.

No. It's just I'm tired and sick often. I've also not passed probation yet. Why shouldn't I tell him?

In case it has any negative impacts on your career. It shouldn’t, but we don’t live in a fair and perfect world.

Don't tell him anything unless your performance is so bad that things are getting formal.

Yes. You have a lot of rights as a pregnant woman in the workforce, but only from the point your manager / HR knows.

Telling your line manager/ HR should be one of the first people you say, especially if you want to have antenatal appointments off, pregnancy sickness allowances etc.

Yes it's difficult.... as it's about trust as well isn't it.

They don’t have to extend the probation though.

@dailytalk totally. But it makes sense to say 'oh gosh, I have some unexpected good news. I've recently found out I'm pregnant - about 8 weeks, so still early days. I'm letting you and HR know as if everything works out I'll need to attend some scans and antenatal appointments soon'.

Then follow up with a breezy but factual email. There is no need to inform the rest of your colleagues. But it makes it easier for you to have time off for appointments etc. and if you have any pregnancy health issues you have informed them.

Also worth seeing if there are any sensible workplace adjustments that can be made?

I told my manager at 6 weeks, but that was because I haves condition that makes any pregnancy high risk and I needed to attend fortnightly appointments. If it hadn’t been for that I would’ve waited.
