To think that fat people get unfairly bullied?

There are those who think that the NHS should not fund essential medical treatment.

It is OK to publically humilate children by weighing them in front of their class mates.

There is a total lack of decent clothes for fat adults and children. Believe that its particularly hard to find nice clothes for overweight children. Surely larger people deserve nice clothes?

And before you ask. I am 5 ft 6in and weight 9 st. I am lucky in that I don't put on weight easy. My slim figure is down to genetics and nothing to do with life choices.

We should accept everyone for who they are and not badger people into starving themselves make them miserable. The press seems to worthship the bodies of those who are so skinny that they are unhealthy. Its abnormal to be size 0.

People with fuller figures should be proud of their bodies and pressurised into attempting to be a totally unrealisic weight.

pofaced, yes, being massively overweight is not good for your health. But being normal size doesn't guarantee that you are healthier than a mildly overweight person. It is possible to be unhealthy and slim, you know.

Fundamentally, weight is NOT a moral issue. Thinnies should not look down on fatties. Waist size does not equate to IQ - and anyone who sneers at overweight people is demonstrating their own stupidity very neatly.

What's more it is very, very easy to put on weight and very hard to lose it, especially as you get older. Look at the studies. People who go on diets, even medically supervised diets, tend to put the weight back on again. At the end of one or two years, most are back to their previous weight or even heavier.

Human beings just didn't evolve to live sedentary lifestyles with easily available food. Our bodies are very, very good at storing fat - that was an evolutionary advantage for millenia.

but even if it is harder to lose weight as you get older that isnt a reason to give up..in fact the reverse it is a reason to try harder

and yes putting on weight like getting overdrawn at the bank is easier than losing it or paying it off it is insidious and tempting to just biury your head in the sand and procrastinate and then another year has gone by and you are backing joining all those who think they have to wait till jan 1st to try again

and the more overdrawn you get the easier it is to say well i owe 500 quid another 200 doesnt make much difference

and once you get over 5 k or whatever another 100 quid or even 1k doesnt matter cos you are already doomed

yes people do put weight back on

that is why you have to see it as a life change you have to adjust to what yoiu need to do as an ongoing challenge so there isnt a diet you do and then you finish

you have to accept that you have to behave differently permanently

Having put on more and more weight over the years, being told i was clinically obese, having failed at every fad diet I've ever tried, doc told me to try and maintain my weight for a year. Best advice I've ever been given. Gave me such confidence in my own abilities to eat healthily, exercise and still enjoy my food, that after my year of maintaing I'm now cutting down portion sizes very slowly and starting to enjoy seeing the weight come off (very slowly) rather than going on.

Doc said too many over weight people try to jump from over eating to dieting, which is very hard to keep up, where as people who try to maintain their weight first seem to succeed in the long run.

and weight watchers and slimming world are interesting

because they give you permission to eat certain things and follow the plan..if i followed either of those diets i would not have lost weight because the allowances are way too high for me

and from what i can tell people talk too much about being naughty and deceiving themselves or not eating the day of the weigh in or going and having a night out straight after like it is a school childrens deception

i looked at them and thought it is more like a conspiracy to avoid losing weight and of course people do go to these clubs year afer year or reptitively and nothing happens because half the time all they have found are fellow unsuccessful dieters

im sure there is a definite correlation between taking it off slowly and sustaining it

for a start you don't go into shock physically

i really love food. Unfortuantely, the foods i love the most are the ones i need to eat less of, all ways the way.

i read on here what people eat in a day not necessarily on the slimming club threads but all over and i know that some people eat twice what i eat

if i ate a weight watcher or slimming world diet then i would put on weight

and of course once you have lost weight you dont need as much food to keep to that weight

as i have lost nearly half my body weight i dont need as much food to sustain myself

and the other interesting thing is that you need exercise to maintin a decent metabolic rate

if you exercise hard then that metabolic rate is raised and it can e raised for as much as 24 hours

also if you do exercise then muscle is more dense than fat so that can knock the bmis

so your ideal weight may be different to someone with a different muscle ratio

i am now ointo muscle toning and building particualrly because i would like to go back to dinghy sailing and also because of learning to climb...i also want more stamina

Zippibabes I sure you'll do really well . Dinghy sailing sounds fun, dh and I fancy taking up sailing as there are regattas all summer long on our bit of the south coast, looks so much fun.

i am not very good at sailing but i have also got up to day skipper for yachts

but not been sailing for about ten years

Looks such fun, but the boats they race down here look so small, and dh and I so big we're convinced that in our current state we'd surely sink .

lol well the single handed boats yes you do have to be lighter

but a wayfarer for example is ok for two

tho if you are heavy then you wont go very fast

but you can learn the skills

but once you do get lighter then you can do more challenging things

or you could learn to sail a yacht..provided you can move you should be ok

of course boats dont have a lot of room on them so it is an incentive to lose weight like i said

As i've pointed out Trolley, not everyone who is overweight has health issues.

I have no idea how much i weigh, i haven't been near a set of scales in years.. but as i said, i'm a 22/24

I dont have diabetes, i don't have high cholesterol, i get my BP checked regularly because i'm on BC and its always been really good.. even when i was pregnant.

I dont have any joint problems other than a post-pregnancy issue with my hip and a bad back that i had when i was a size 14 when i was 18 (spinal curve)

Being fat/obese is a natural state for some people.. we're not all designed to be skinny.

And to the person who said to be morbidly obese you must be taking in 1000 calories a day or more.... i haven't taken that much in for years.
