To ask the fitters to stop fitting my floor today

Ncfgjdo · 25/04/2023 05:54

So this situation is absolutely ridiculous and I am perfectly aware that my pregnancy hormones are clouding my judgement here and I'm in an incredibly fortunate position, but I could really be doing with some urgent WWYD advice as I am so stressed over this. I am 33 weeks pregnant and have moved into a complete renovation project (not ideal I realise!). The last few weeks since I got the keys I've had to make a lot of quick (expensive) decisions re the design of the house to allow me to get in to it before the baby's born. I'd thought that would be really fun and exciting, but I'm actually really starting to feel pretty stressed over the whole thing and no longer trust my own judgement. I'm becoming quite teary and doubting every decision I make. One of the major outlays has been flooring. It accounts for a significant lump sum of the budget and the fitters started work yesterday and will complete today. As soon as I saw the flooring down it looked completely different from I had thought it would from when I saw it in the shop. I did immediately mention this to the fitters but they assured me it was the correct one. I'm not blaming anyone else here but me, as I do appreciate flooring looks different in natural/ artificial light etc but I immediately hated it. It really looks nothing like I thought it would. They are about halfway done. Should I call the shop and ask them to stop and at least try to salvage some of the unused packets of flooring? (It's herringbone design and there's a LOT of it as the floor space is massive) or should I let them finish and suck it up and not lose thousands of £?) I'm so angry at myself for making the wrong choice and of course I'm not suggesting that I don't pay for the flooring or wiggle out of fitting fees etc. I also realise this is causing me way more distress than it should- my hormones are all over the place.

Haven’t read the full thread, but the mere word ‘silver’ on the box would ring alarm bells.

Growlybear83 · 25/04/2023 08:12

I doubt they've made a mistake - I googled Ravello Belstaff and the colour is described as silver online. But it's a very neutral shade of grey and I think it's lovely.

rainbowstardrops · 25/04/2023 08:12

If it's not what you were expecting and you're wondering if they're using a cheaper/different product then I'd stop them this morning and I'd contact the store.
I think it looks lovely but if you don't then that's all that matters.

GingerLemonSoda · 25/04/2023 08:12

Kronotex is half of the price of Ravello. Definitely stop them and call the shop. So cheeky of them!!

VeganCow · 25/04/2023 08:12

I would call them and say, I've realised that you are fitting the wrong flooring. I chose from a sample, and ordered then paid for Ravello. You are supplying and fitting Kronotex, a totally different brand, colour and look, and more importantly price.
Simple as that.

ClaraThePigeon · 25/04/2023 08:13

I’d be kicking up a stink about the fact they’ve charged you for one brand and are supplying a much cheaper one

It seems that they're both the same brand though, that Ravello is just the name of a range of flooring and not an actual brand. That it's just renamed Kronotex.

'First world problems' is an offensive term that suggests only people in developed countries have rich and interesting internal lives, whilst everyone else thinks of nothing but when they will eat again. When this is patently untrue. If you leave the West, you'll discover people everywhere complain about a myriad of issues.

So I'd encourage you to think of a more interesting riposte when someone presents what you believe to be a trivial problem.

You’re getting overly offended.

Op has acknowledged this is a “first world problem” which is actually quite helpful in keeping perspective.

The flooring is possibly a slightly different shade. No point getting “distressed” “angry” “doubting my own judgment “ and crying which is how op is reacting.

Keep calm, make enquiries with the company and if you’re right and they replace it then resign yourself to an extra day or so of upheaval.

Youre not living there and baby’s not here yet. It’s a smallish issue in the grand scale of life! Good luck x

SundaeLove · 25/04/2023 08:14

This.

If indeed you have been ripped off you’ll never like that flooring, such a horrible feeling being ripped off😕

Dontcareforthehaters · 25/04/2023 08:15

MorrisZapp · 25/04/2023 08:08

I don't think it's helpful to tell the op that her floor is lovely. It isn't the colour she wanted and she clearly doesn't think it's lovely. People are allowed to have individual tastes.

Perfectly okay to tell OP that what is being installed looks lovely, if that is a genuine option. It doesn't alter the issue of whether it is the right or wrong product.

Daisy4569 · 25/04/2023 08:15

Haven’t read the whole thread but can’t you take a piece of flooring from the pack to the shop and compare with the sample that you looked at there?

Waterbottleallthetime · 25/04/2023 08:16

Tbh I prefer the one that the fitters are laying to the one you thought it was, though I understand that’s just my opinion. It will look great with any shade of soft furnishings. It is very neutral so will be endlessly flexible. I don’t think any furniture or fittings look as you remember seeing them in the shop because it’s in a different light and a different setting. I think it’s very nice but if you don’t like it, ask if you can return the unused boxes though bear in mind you will probably be charged for them to remove what’s already been laid. There’s also the environment to consider. I will probably get bombarded for mentioning that but it is a factor. 🤐

Lcb123 · 25/04/2023 08:16

I think it looks nice. It will look more yellow in summer surely with the sun.

Theraffarian · 25/04/2023 08:17

Carpet right does this with all their carpets , they give them a different name to the manufacturer one so that people can’t find the carpet they like in there and then order elsewhere at a cheaper price .

Our carpet fitter who is independent always gets us to look in independent shops if he isn’t carrying samples of the colour we want as it’s hard for him to work out which flooring the chains have renamed as what .

As I said earlier take a sample piece into Tapi , if it’s the right colour then you’ve just been caught by their marketing . If the colour doesn’t match then you can get them to redo, but I suspect it does.

gotmychristmasmiracle · 25/04/2023 08:19

They both look lovely but I think your right these are different floorings. Have you shown the fitters your picture and looked if the product descriptions match the box they have? I would ring your sales person also Xx

Delatron · 25/04/2023 08:21

It does matter than somebody has ripped off the OP. The flooring being laid is half the price and different to the one she ordered. Do you think it’s the builders or the shop pulling a fast one?

My builders tried to do this with me - they switched an engineered wood floor that I’d ordered for a laminate one and thought I wouldn’t notice! The boxes said laminate on them! So you need to stop the work and get to the bottom of this.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 25/04/2023 08:21

The people saying "I love the new floor" are totally missing the point 🙈

It's not what OP ordered and isn't even the right brand - would you reallyball be happy to be paying £40 per sqm for something that's only worth half that?

mum11970 · 25/04/2023 08:21

I’m astounded a company is allowed to rename a product, without having to print it somewhere on their advertising, purely to stop customers googling and finding out they are overcharging them but definitely take an off cut of the floor they are actually fitting to the shop and compare against the sample in store asap today. If it’s a different colour either get them to change the whole lot or give you a huge chunk of money back. Unfortunately it seems perfectly legal to fool you over the quality of he flooring you purchased. This is definitely something that should be made common knowledge. A Tapi store has not long since opened where I live and I will definitely be avoiding them after reading this.

piedbeauty · 25/04/2023 08:23

The boxes should match what you ordered. If your first pic is what you expected the floor to look like and the second pic is the actual floor, then something has gone wrong - they are not the same.

You need to ring the shop to find out. Tell them the name of the floor the men are laying.

Then decide what you want to do. Is the floor terrible enough for you to want it ripped up and the one you wanted put in? How much of a discount will the shop give you if they have got it wrong? Good luck.

(Btw I like them both, but you should have the one you choose a and ordered.)

PuddlesPityParty · 25/04/2023 08:25

What kind of lighting do you have? Are your lightbulbs a warm colour or are they white? I think a warm bulb could help you here 😊

I personally think they look like the same colour but in different lighting - but appreciate IRL things look different.

Be kind to yourself OP!

I definitely think that the floor being laid looks nice and as I have previously mentioned, it doesn't change the fact that an inferior or different than ordered product may be being provided. I certainly don't think that the OP should accept the current situation but, I will say it again, since this is a public forum to post in, I love the product being laid.

PuddlesPityParty · 25/04/2023 08:25

I meant to say - yes do phone the store about it all though.

ClaraThePigeon · 25/04/2023 08:26

It is the right brand though. Wrong name but right brand. Ravello is just renamed Kronotex. It's a range of flooring. It doesn't exist as a product in its own right.

justasking111 · 25/04/2023 08:26

@Ncfgjdo is it 12mm flooring and marked AC3 for durability?

Doagooddeed · 25/04/2023 08:26

The Sale of Goods Act 1979 requires all goods that are bought or sold in the UK to be:

  • as described - the goods should match any sample you were shown

If what this shop did is legal, then then lets look out for people ordering a Tesla and getting an MG.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 25/04/2023 08:27

I would contact the shop and tell the fitters not to go ahead until you have resolved the issue.
It does not look like you are getting what you are paying for, the colour is the least of the issues (although the most notible).
In fact I would prob rock up unannounced with some of the flooring they are laying to compare against the shop sample.
