No emergency alarm

I actually wanted to hear what it sounded like… as I'd quite like to be informed if a mad dog is roaming my neighborhood, or a hurricane is on the way.

I have a PAYG phone... is that why I didn't get it? I am on EE (formerly Orange).

Anyone else?

But some people on 3 did. And I didn't until this morning and nothing was switched off

KnickerlessParsons · 24/04/2023 12:22

Lots of people didn't receive the alarm, but that's kind of the point of a test - to see if the system works. It didn't, or at least not for everyone. They'll debug it and fix it.

mamabear715 · 24/04/2023 12:23

I only have a dinophone, I'm obviously not worth saving in an emergency! :-)

MagpiePi · 24/04/2023 12:29

All the people who did get it have been chosen by the government as superior citizens who will be issued with tinfoil hats and be saved in the event of a national emergency. So if you didn't get it, you are unworthy and will be left to die.*

*I've just totally made this up, but I would put money on people believing it. #BigPharmaGovernmentBillGatesCovidTakeYourPickConspiracy🙄

I've just had another one now - getting boring!

That's what I thought. Prob why I got it this morning

When I wasn't expecting it. An experiment

LoobyLobbyLou · 24/04/2023 12:40

I’m on O2, IPhone 13, and didn’t get it.

My work IPhone SE which is on EE did though. But it was with my work stuff so didn’t hear it, but the message was there when I unlocked it. Which is why I know my personal phone didn’t

Hotpinkangel19 · 24/04/2023 13:03

I got it twice! As expected yesterday and then 2:08am this morning 😔

And what special information would a retired army fella have?

He was in civil defence and had friends still in the service. The intention is that if there was a nuclear strike to warn people to get to some shelter as quickly as they can. The US did this last year and even issued public information videos.

We are all with Tesco sim only, DH’s went off in the house it was the most pathetic sound ever, DS was with a friend and his went off, as did friends, they timed their trip to Tesco to see if there would be chaos and noise, Grin there wasn’t. Again an anaemic little alert.

Mine was on charge and I didn’t get anything.

I read elsewhere a techie explanation. Getting it involved being actually connected to the sending aerial. Phones aren't in continuous connection, they connect at short intervals to see if there are any incoming messages. Most network companies sent out the signal repeatedly for 20 minutes so each phone would get it when they connected. 3 sent out a single signal at 3pm exactly, so only those phones connected at 3pm exactly got it.

lashy · 24/04/2023 20:00

Same as you - EE, PAYG. I got the alarm at 14:58.

JadedTeal · 24/04/2023 20:12

I did, DH didn't. We both have the same phones with the same provider. I can only guess it's maybe a different OS as the phones were bought a year apart.

lillie23 · 24/04/2023 20:31

I didn't receive it either. My phone should have updated itself the night before and it didn't for some strange reason. And part of the update was for this alarm
