I’m addicted to shoplifting and got caught today

And banned nationally from that supermarket for life .
I am bipolar and did it to get a high - I’ve been addicted to alcohol and cutting myself in the past.
I’m so ashamed , I’m worried my family will find out.
I did wrong and I admit it . Is there anywhere I can get help.

The face that you're bothered about this and self aware is good. I also had this illness to a worse degree. I would steal a tin of tuna every time I went to Sainsbury’s and ended up with a suitcase full in my cellar. It is an illness specifically in reaction to something you've lost.

I was fortunate enough to go into rehab.

Don't be hard on yourself.

And don't panic. I was photographed and banned from Sainsbury’s and still went in to buy things and nobody batted an eyelid.

Because in the real world , such bans are impossible to enforce , and EVEN if one was caught a second or third time after being banned ... they will NOT have resources to check their records for £5 or £10 ( unless of course it is 50 cans of tuna ! )
