Why does she have to have a US accent?

I think it's the cultural hegemony of America that makes an American accent on a UK alert system (or on anything that is supposed to be British) annoying to Brits.
I wouldn't describe it as anger, more an ugh, typical! Mild annoyance.

I’m curious too, but we all know some MN posters like a good, old moan about the States.

Let’s be honest, whatever English-speaking accent would be used, someone would moan. I’d be more concerned whether an alert was received and that it caught attention which it did.

I'd like to think it was done on purpose to wind up mumsnetters who are bizarrely wound up by all things American. Clearly any alert should be voiced in the style of Winston Churchill.

I absolutely love an American accent. In fact I love all things American. But then I’m American, living in a country that thinks I’m stupid and tacky. 🙄

I clicked on it because I assumed the thread would be about British folk putting on American accents or something.
