Another poster on here mentioned that and as I barely check any settings I could well have voice enabled for alerts. It don't read out my text messages to Me.

I didn't get any voice! Just a loud alarm.

iPhone no voice then ....

Same here with my iPhone as did my DH and he has a Sony.

I thought my laptop had an error until I felt the vibration.

On a similar theme - why goes Google maps suddenly have an American and talk about meters, then revert to English and miles? It's most disconcerting.

I got the siren and message, H got nothing. I also wondered about the synthetic sounding American accent - how do you change it?

Hmmm…maybe you should not buy an “American” phone then. Or…Why not just accept the world is globalised now and therefore accents are going to mix. We haven’t spoken With an RP accent for thousands of years OP. Our accents and language have been changing and currently you’re seeing a change in real time as things are moving quickly right now in this regard with phones, internet etc.

this was an entirely unnecessary post designed to wind people up against Americans and their “Americanisms”….maybe tone down the anti-American sentiment and buy a phone invented by the royal family or something if you're that bothered.

Anyway remember, as we’re all so irritated by each others’ accents in this united kingdom, it wouldn’t be so simple as saying “let’s put alerts in a British accent” - which British accent?

Only one of our families' phones got The annoyingly Americsn robot Voice. It was an Android phone (appropriately!) but none of the Apples or the other Androids got it.

I didn't get the alert as I'd turned it off in my settings.
I think Fred Elliott, the butcher in coronation Street doing the voice would be a laugh.

As an American, I'm curious which accent she had...we have a pretty big country.

But seriously, why do British people seem obsessed with accents? We don't really care when you get angry about ours, but I am very curious why it bothers you all so much.
