Really not enjoying my job at the moment, and wasting quite a bit of time thinking about how im not enjoying it. If you really like your job on the whole what is it you do?

3D artist and designer, i work in landscaping, making the pretty pictures to send to clients. I work freelance subcontracting for a few companies so client contact is minimal and i just get paid to sit in my kitchen and model/draw. Took a while to get here but after i lost my last job I decided to market the set of skills that i really enjoyed and have made a little niche for myself. I was planning on doing a website to get more work but currently too busy! in 6 months im making a decent part time wage about 300-400 per week over two/three days.

That sounds amazing. It must be so great to earn a decent living working pt in a creative role doing the thing you love.

District Nurse. Some days are very stressful and emotional but I work with a great team and I love being able to spend time with patients, no matter how stressful the day is I only have 1 patient at a time in front of me. I adore it.

design and make bespoke furniture. Would do it for nothing if I could afford to. Dont even regard it as work.

@blueshoes

Yes its great! comes with its own stresses of course but better then working under someone else, the design industry is generally quite high pressure anyway.

I have worked in design/landscaping/construction for 10 years or so but not quite doing the thing i was good at. In a way that was an advantage as now i can do everything except the physical construction, so client meetings, technical drawings, working at scale, site surveys, topological stuff. Its all formed a good basis so a lot of problem solving is internalised.

I did have to work hard to chase my clients initially. I got fed up of the usual job searching on indeed/cv library which was fruitless. Instead crafted a targeted cv and portfolio and then made a list of potential customers and contacted them individually by phone/email after studying their website. It meant i could offer a service i knew they didn't have already as many of their websites were lacking good imagery and that is exactly what my portfolio showed.

I'm generally highly introverted but at some point i have crossed over some kind of confidence threshold in this particular area, that and working on the quality of my portfolio to back up my words.

Healthcare charity CEO. Hugely varied, highly regulated and pretty pressured with long hours and a lot of responsibility. But I love it, especially meeting supporters and beneficiaries.

@Isomissmyoldlife I totally get that, tours are tiring but addictive!!

blueshoes · 25/04/2023 14:50

@Luckydog7 that is brilliant and most resourceful of you to find and develop your niche in the market. As a similarly highly introverted person, I don't have sufficient confidence in my ability to 'hustle' for work, so very glad to hear how you managed to make it work for yourself. I get that operating in your area of expertise and interest can make you come out of your shell.

Love your story.
