Someone's taken credit for anonymous treat!

Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

I really want to suggest this. Is it a bit mean girl? My friends first suggestion was this but I was like, we better not.

She rang me! As soon as she read the message! We've just spent the last 20 minutes laughing about it! She was totally convinced it was from me at first as it's the type of thing we do for each other, but the posts from cheeky cow totally made her think cheeky cow sent it!

I've told her to leave the post tagged for the time being....

Glad to see this update, I was worried your friend might feel awkward or embarrassed in some way having publicly thanked the CF so very pleased to hear she has seen the funny side

I read it that was a cream tea in a box that the OP had sent to the friend, rather than a voucher for tea out somewhere.

I would PM the friend and say something like “just to clear up any possible misunderstanding, it was I who sent the cream tea! I hope you really enjoy it xx”

OP, please, please encourage your friend to send her a gushing private message thanking her for the lovely gift, saying she’ll send her a wee treat back etc!! Her response to that will be VERY telling!

I probably wouldnt say anything as I'm a wimp and wouldn't want to deal with it, but I would want to have messaged the cf saying

"Hiya, any chance you could make it clear to X that the tea was not from you?
It was sent anonomously because X always wants to reciprocate gifts and as she is having a hard time at the moment, I wanted to give her a treat that she could enjoy without the stress of having to do that.
I'm worried she might misinterpret your comment and try to reciprocate the gift will only add to all of her stress right now, which obviously defeats the point of the treat in the first place haha, thank you"

No no no! I’d never engage with a CF as in this case as OP says she doesn’t know her. You just don’t know what can of worms you’d open. I’d probably message friend telling her I’d sent her the gift and not engage in any sort of FB spat even emoticons because I know how this can get out of hand.

Good outcome! I’d be fuming with CF! But I also know I can get angry, react quickly and then say something stupid so now I try (ha!) to think on things first!
