Someone's taken credit for anonymous treat!

Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

EsmeSusanOgg · 22/04/2023 15:02

Anyone else here, way too excited to hear about someone else eating a cream tea right now?

Cheeky cow has rained in our parade

She's just text my friend.

"Hi, just in from xxxx's football training, so couldn't text earlier. I didn't sent the present darling, just said it was a lovely idea. Hugs, cheeky cow"

Light and breezy, no acknowledgement!!

Now is the time for friend to post a gorgeous photo of the spread and tag you in it, with thanks.

Your friend should post ‘CF has confirmed she didn’t send the cream tea. Mystery gifter, thank you.’

buzzbox · 22/04/2023 15:03

I had a similar thing happen with one of those online charity sponsored run fund raising events. Someone at work started one to benefit a medical charity that was close to them and in the memory of a family member. When I looked to make a contribution, it was sad that nobody had put in a decent amount it was all £2 and £5 amounts (from people who were well paid and well off). I put in £20 with my name showing. The total amount was not much even after 3 weeks. I then got paid a bonus and felt sorry for the member of staff who was raising the funds - so I went mad and topped it off with a £250 anonymous contribution. The next thing I knew was that the rumor in the office was that the CEO of our company had put in the £250 and the staff thought he was a generous hero - I never witnessed him denying it and I never bragged that the decent contributor was me.

I'm back, sorry to keep you dangling.

She rang me! As soon as she read the message! We've just spent the last 20 minutes laughing about it! She was totally convinced it was from me at first as it's the type of thing we do for each other, but the posts from cheeky cow totally made her think cheeky cow sent it!

I've told her to leave the post tagged for the time being....

Did you friend say anything to suggest that she expected this kind of thing from her friend? That she was generally not a nice person? Absolutely anything indicate that she thought it was intentional?

Please don’t attempt to humiliate this person. She’s been a dick by making it look like she sent it but ganging up on her will make you just as bad. Your friend should just untag her, delete the comments and then message her and explain that she knows she didn’t send it. Don’t be the mean girls of this story.

This

this woman is obviously genuine friends with the OP’s friends
she made a silly comment probs my without thinking
and within hours responded to friend that absolutely was not her

it’s over

DowntownKingston · 22/04/2023 15:09

At least she’s owned up to your friend. The tables could’ve been turned completely, & you could’ve become the CF.

Greenfairydust · 22/04/2023 15:10

''@Minisculefool · Today 11:09
I wouldn’t say anything, you’re friend likes it and that’s all that matters.
if you comment on it it looks petty''

I disagree.

The person who tried to claim credit for this as shown themselves to be dishonest and that should be exposed.

OP, as other people have suggested message the person privately and leave a snarky comment for the person who tried to claim your kindness as theirs...They absolutely deserve to be put back in their place in public.

SauvignonBlanche · 22/04/2023 15:11

I’m fucking desperate for a cream tea now 😩

EvenHeathens · 22/04/2023 15:11

My thoughts exactly...

Just reply now, on fb, saying you're glad the tea was found as it was included on the info when you purchased it.

Doing anything else other than clearing it up turns this into potential bitch territory on your part

Confusion101 · 22/04/2023 15:14

I don't see this as potential bitch territory at all! It's all a laugh. It has brought some about of people light hearted enjoyment and chuckles.

Side note I've never heard of cream tea before and had to Google it

Therealjudgejudy · 22/04/2023 15:14

This thread will have made the sale of cream teas today skyrocket

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/04/2023 15:15

Least cff has admitted it's not her

Your friend. An now say it's not that last and who was it

And you can say me 😃

AliceOlive · 22/04/2023 15:16

OP is not going to humiliate anyone. She’s had hours to do so and hasn’t.

It’s been fun but really, the work friend admitting it was a good outcome. No major harm here.

Kanaloa · 22/04/2023 15:18

ShowUs · 22/04/2023 12:07

Isn’t the idea of it being anonymous so that the person doesn’t know the sender.

If everyone she asks apart from OP say no it wasn’t them then that’s not anonymous as it’s easy to work out.

If the sender wanted them to know who it was from then they would not sent it anonymously.

I was replying to that poster asking what else the friend could have said without claiming credit. The answer being literally anything but ‘hmm you’ll never know wink wink’ which obviously implies she did in fact do it.

Bluekerfuffle · 22/04/2023 15:19

Had this sort of thing too. Where I paid for someone at a group dinjer who had forgotten her purse and while she was out making sure she hadn’t left it in the car (she hadn’t) and everyone else was just staring at each other after deciding how much was missing from the bill. So I just added the amount. When she came back someone said we had already paid and she thanked everyone. I was gobsmacked when a couple of them said “that’s ok” as if they had paid for some of it.

PyjamaFan · 22/04/2023 15:21

This is hilarious.
