Would you give up work

HagoftheNorth · 18/04/2023 19:10

If your DH earned millions, and he gave you half so it was in your name & you were independently financially secure, would you give up work

YABU you would still want to have your own work & earn your own money
YANBU of course you’d give up work ( and what would you do instead?)

Without even looking back tbh.

OconsRazor · 18/04/2023 19:49

No, I properly love my job and I work with my best mate who I would miss immensely.

Eranzer · 18/04/2023 19:51

Fuck yeah, in a heart beat!

Zanatdy · 18/04/2023 19:51

No, I’d never ever be reliant on a man no matter how rich they are

Pixie2015 · 18/04/2023 19:51

Would do voluntary work and self care

thecatsthecats · 18/04/2023 19:57

Absolutely.

We're trying to arrange things so that we phase off work and into more passive earning.

So I would be totally free to set up investments etc so that he could quit his high salary work.

InsertSomethingMotivationalHere · 18/04/2023 19:59

Absolutely I would. I work bloody hard and have done since I was 16 but yes, I'd love to be able to experience the world without a second thought about costs and prices. DP and I would travel the world and be very very happy.

AceofPentacles · 18/04/2023 20:01

Yes but I'd still write and help people in other ways . I don't mind working but I hate being employed

I wouldn’t either, but OP said he’s transferring it into your name so I’d be comfortable with that!

GoodChat · 18/04/2023 20:04

I'd open a soft play or a local cafe or something that would benefit the community and keep itself going financially that I could pop in and out of when I fancied it and pay someone for the day to day running

VintageThoughts · 18/04/2023 20:04

Yep. In a heartbeat!

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/04/2023 20:30

I love my job. It makes a proper difference and I'm good at it. It also gives me structure and purpose.

Also, yuk to living off a bloke.

I would be tempted to start my own shelter. But I'm allergic to admin so maybe not...

AlwaysGinPlease · 18/04/2023 20:47

Yes and I really do love my job but I would quit right away I would volunteer for my favourite animal rescue though.

I think anyone who says no needs to be honest, even if it's only with themselves 😂

Merryoldgoat · 18/04/2023 20:49

I would start a social housing project. I hate how insecure housing is for so many.

Me and you! Can you be in charge of the admin? Because I'm shit. I'll deal with all the escalated issues.

I'd like a section for drug-involved pregnant and parenting women. Please...

PegasusReturns · 18/04/2023 20:52

I have my own millions and still go to work.

I quit for a short period but went back after about 18mths. Work is not just about the money.

Merryoldgoat · 18/04/2023 20:56

@MrsTerryPratchett

a match made on heaven! I can come across a horrible impatient cow but I’m good at admin!

I would love to help women escape awful men and help them thrive.

rebekahnorris · 18/04/2023 20:58

Yes.

It's a plan. Now to win the lottery or find a millionaire hottie. DH might be upset but it's for the greater good.

I have so many ideas for good housing projects.

Ragwort · 18/04/2023 20:58

I did (to an extent Grin) my DH didn't earn millions but I gave up working for 12 years and lived very comfortably... have an only DC who was at nursery/school for most of the time so I was not really a SAHM & my DH had no expectations about me being the 'housewife'. I had financial independence, paid my NI & pension contributions... had a very comfortable lifestyle - did plenty of volunteering to keep busy. When I wanted to return to paid employment I took a paid role in the charity sector. Now my DH has been able to retire early as he wanted to and I continue to work part time so we are both happy.

PickleOfAConundrum · 18/04/2023 20:59

Nope, I'd continue to work as I am very independent and my own woman so for those reasons no amount of money would make me give up a job especially one I love doing!

HoboSexualOnslow · 18/04/2023 21:03

I absolutely would give up work. I'd pay for me and my running mate to run marathons all over the world

Beezknees · 18/04/2023 21:04

Yes, if I had access to plenty of money that was solely in my name.

Modaboutyou · 18/04/2023 21:05

No. I love my job, i have worked hard to carve out an international reputation for myself.
Secondly, I pride myself on being financially independent. I would entertain working part time.

Phoebo · 18/04/2023 21:06

ElfAndSafetyBored · 18/04/2023 19:13

I like to think I wouldn’t because I really do love my job but I probably would because I also like spas, shopping, etc.

This. I always thought even if I won the lottery I'd still work. Until I took a year off to travel and do things for myself. Yep, definitely would be happy to not work. I'd find other things to do!!
