Would you give away your pet for a million pounds?

Hypothetically.
If somebody knocked on my door right now and offered to re-home my cat for a million pounds, I just don't think I could do it. Even though that would be a completely life-changing amount of money for me. Could you?

My dd has a massive spider that I would get rid of for £1, I absolutely hate it and I'm terrified.

We also have rats and a cat, it would be pretty gut wrenching to lose them, but a million would give my dc financial security forever so I would.

Sorry, I can't stop reading this 😂 I am a severe arachnophobe and cannot imagine living with a spider that was in my house on purpose 😭 not even if my Daughter begged and pleaded.

And no, I wouldn't. He's my baby ♥️

oranges29 · 18/04/2023 20:07

Yes

oranges29 · 18/04/2023 20:07

To a good home though

VintageThoughts · 18/04/2023 20:10

I could give up work and put enough aside to set the DC up in their first home. And buy a new car. And treat the three of us to a holiday. In Italy.

Sorry Doggo. Your bags are packed Grin

LittleBlueBrioTrain · 18/04/2023 18:46

Yes. They'd soon bring him back.

😂

Londre · 18/04/2023 20:12

Could I visit my cat still? Could I “rent” it? If so - yes. Otherwise no

1984Winston · 18/04/2023 20:12

Absolutely no way

mycatsanutter · 18/04/2023 20:14

Cat yes ( he hates me and attacks me for no reason 🤷‍♀️) , dog - no way she has a wonderful life with us I just couldn't do it . I wouldn't be happy without her just shows money doesn't but happiness

WickedSerious · 18/04/2023 20:15

Absolutely not.

Yes. I have given 25-26 years to pets. Rabbits, hamsters, goldfish, mice, gerbils, and cats. Had cats for 21 years. Our last one left is 15 and a half years old. Probably not got more than 2 or 3 years left. So as long as I knew she was going to a safe and caring home, then yes I WOULD let her go for a million £...

I have (possibly/hopefully) 40 years of life left, maybe more, and a million pounds would see me and DH financially comfortable for life if we were careful with it (which we would be.) Also, we would be able to pay off DCs students debts, and a large chunk off their mortgages, to reduce them to maybe 10 years (from 25.) We could go private with health care and not have to burden the NHS, and will not have to wait long for treatment. Could give up work, and someone else would gain 2 jobs (mine and DH's.) We would never have any money worries again.

It's a no brainer really ...

No way would I give away my dog!

No-one said you had to give your dog away. The OP said would you do it for a million pounds........?

Not for a million pounds! Although I am in a fortunate position to be financially comfortable...

AceofPentacles · 18/04/2023 20:17

The dog is my favourite child, so no.

Bigminnie1 · 18/04/2023 20:18

I asked my DD (15) - she also said no way.

AceofPentacles · 18/04/2023 20:18

Also I think all your cats would sell YOU for a million !

rainydaysandstormynights · 18/04/2023 20:19

I would feel really guilty, but if I knew they were going to someone who would love them and give them an amazing life, and if I thought they'd adjust quickly and be just as happy with the new people as they are with us, I'd consider it. I think I'd always feel very sad about it, though, so not sure it would be worth it. If we were desperate for money, that would make it easier to decide, but still only if I felt absolutely certain they would be loved and cared for.

Minikievs · 18/04/2023 20:19

Is it going to a good home?
If so, yes.
A million pounds could transform my children's lives. Saying no to that for the sake of the cat, as much as I love her, is silly.
I love my children more.

Bigminnie1 · 18/04/2023 20:19

AceofPentacles · 18/04/2023 20:17

The dog is my favourite child, so no.

Mine too. DD sends me cards saying love from your 2nd favourite child Grin

evalsaro · 18/04/2023 20:20

Yes. And I love my cat a lot. But I love my children more and £1m would change their lives immensely.

However, no one is giving me £1m for my ugly little scruff ball so therefore he's safe. For now. Grin

legalseagull · 18/04/2023 20:20

Yes. I love my dog, but he won't be around forever and I have two young kids futures to think about. That would be life changing and provide so much security.

newfence · 18/04/2023 20:21

I just asked my husband to lie on the floor with our sleeping dog and 'give him the best, most emotional cuddle you've ever given him'... the dog made some really cute snuffles in his ear which my husband said were super cute...

I then asked him your question... he said, 'awwww....!!' And then, ' do you want the truth?'. My daughter and I just said, 'nah'.

He would definitely give him away 😂

Just asked our 20 yr old son, who has just come home, got him to do the cuddle as well... he would also give the woofer away (even though he said he wouldn't - he would)

Men are greedy, disloyal bastards.

Cherrysherbet · 18/04/2023 20:21

No. My dogs are family.

DiscoBeat · 18/04/2023 20:21

Does anyone want to buy my stick insect?

Mamapiggywig · 18/04/2023 20:21

No way! But I could get my mum to purr and roll over….

😂

Giggorata · 18/04/2023 20:22

No, they would be so upset, as would I.

temperedolive · 18/04/2023 20:22

The thought us honestly making me tear up.

No. As I was reading the post, she jumped up on the bed next to me because there was a noise and she was scared. She had a really hard life before I adopted her, and I think I'm probably the first person she's ever fully trusted to protect her. I could never betray that.

I actually think I'd pay a million to get her back if someone took her. I love my little woof!
