Would you give away your pet for a million pounds?

Hypothetically.
If somebody knocked on my door right now and offered to re-home my cat for a million pounds, I just don't think I could do it. Even though that would be a completely life-changing amount of money for me. Could you?

Yes. I have given 25-26 years to pets. Rabbits, hamsters, goldfish, mice, gerbils, and cats. Had cats for 21 years. Our last one left is 15 and a half years old. Probably not got more than 2 or 3 years left. So as long as I knew she was going to a safe and caring home, then yes I WOULD let her go for a million £...

I have (possibly/hopefully) 40 years of life left, maybe more, and a million pounds would see me and DH financially comfortable for life if we were careful with it (which we would be.) Also, we would be able to pay off DCs students debts, and a large chunk off their mortgages, to reduce them to maybe 10 years (from 25.) We could go private with health care and not have to burden the NHS, and will not have to wait long for treatment. Could give up work, and someone else would gain 2 jobs (mine and DH's.) We would never have any money worries again.

It's a no brainer really ...

No way would I give away my dog!

No-one said you had to give your dog away. The OP said would you do it for a million pounds........?

LumpySpaceGoddess · 18/04/2023 19:28

No!

TooMuchStuffArghhh · 18/04/2023 19:29

No, I couldn't. Absolutely not my first born dog. The pup, no, but I'm 1% tempted. The cat, nope not her either.

I'm not any where near financially stable, but I love them so much. Even tho they can be arse holes.

Velvian · 18/04/2023 19:30

Yes definitely. 😅

TooMuchStuffArghhh · 18/04/2023 19:32

Just asked the teenager. He said no to the first born dog. Yep to the pup and yep to the cat!

knobheadex · 18/04/2023 19:32

I only have a dog now and as much as I love her, yes I'd give her away for 1m in a heartbeat. That sum would change my kids life forever. Whereas the dog brings a lot of joy to them, there's no comparison with what the sum of money could bring to their childhood.

Madamecastafiore · 18/04/2023 19:33

In a heartbeat. She was only £1500, I'd just get another or maybe not due to the enormous amount of time I'd be sitting on foreign shores.

To misquote Jurgen Klopp

No

He is my cat

CurlewKate · 18/04/2023 19:34

Yes.

Davestwattymissus · 18/04/2023 19:41

Never

RufustheSpecuIatingreindeer · 18/04/2023 19:42

Yes

GOODCAT · 18/04/2023 19:44

No way

Bloopsie · 18/04/2023 19:46

Yup.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 18/04/2023 19:51

Yes. I would assuming it was a decent loving home.
Dh, on the other hand, would pay a million quid ransom.
He is a dog parent, I am a dog owner!

TwoMonthsOff · 18/04/2023 19:51

No

Arewethereyet22 · 18/04/2023 19:54

Yes

vilepig · 18/04/2023 19:54

No because when I adopted her, I made her a promise that I would be there for her until the very last moment of her life (as I have done for all other previous pets). I would never give her away for a million pounds because of that promise and also because you can't guarantee that the pet would end up in a good home and be happy there.

sparebooks · 18/04/2023 19:55

God yes

Lasouthpaw · 18/04/2023 19:59

Yep!

She does my head in. A deaf Bengal, my toddler is less disruptive.

But no, my husband probably wouldn't let me.

Zanatdy · 18/04/2023 20:02

Absolutely not, no amount of money and I mean that 100%. I adore my dog, even with his glaucoma eyes and other health issues. My kids would never forgive me! He’s family, you wouldn’t rehome your kids, same as you don’t rehome your pet. I know people do but I couldn’t

SirVixofVixHall · 18/04/2023 20:02

No.

Coffeaddict · 18/04/2023 20:03

Yes

CottonSock · 18/04/2023 20:03

Ancient guinea pig, sorry I probably would.

theswoot · 18/04/2023 20:06

Ddog is the bane of my life sometimes but no I couldn’t do it!

JohnnyYenSetHimselfOnFireAgain · 18/04/2023 20:06

Absolutely no chance!!
