to think that correcting someone's spelling/grammar etc on a thread is actually quite petty and pathetic?

Really what does it matter?

wannabe - 'excuse' no, if you choose not to, though I think it is a valid one - 'explanation', yes!

wannaBe · 15/02/2008 15:59

but there's a time and a place devil, and regardless of whose misspelling that was, that thread was not the place.

Nor was the snipey comment back at me from fio fio. Fair enough that my comment was misplaced in the thread but tbh, I don't care if you are disabled and think it is irrelevant, so need to even comment on my first comment, iyswim.

Blossomhill · 15/02/2008 16:11

Just read the link and devil I think that was really uncalled for.

for the record .....

Why say anything at all? Nasty and not needed.

Fio fio did not snipe at you at all. she told you the facts and I think you should just accept that what you said was blatantly out of order

Oblomov · 15/02/2008 16:12

I was reading the thread, as it happened.
And I was very shocked at :
a) the spelling correction - which I thought was VERY rude, outside p corner.
b) The Fiofio comment.
I was like.... what is GOING on here ?

chocolatespiders · 15/02/2008 16:13

i have had it done to me before and didnt like it......

AbbeyA · 15/02/2008 16:13

I don't mind at all-I write quickly-the first thing that comes into my head and don't proof read so if people want to they can- but I wouldn't bother.

Oblomov · 15/02/2008 16:15

No one has ever corrected my spelling or grmmar and I am not a touch typer and am totally crap spellar

Blossomhill · 15/02/2008 16:15

I think it's such an unkind thing to do

Oblomov · 15/02/2008 16:16

I think it is F**king rude.

Blossomhill · 15/02/2008 16:17

yes very.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 15/02/2008 16:18

Why were you so shocked, people correct each other constantly on here, I don't very often but that was just one word that screamed out at me. I think you are being hysterical and perhaps it's because of the Disability element. If it was me I wouldn't want anyone leaping to my defence just because of that, which is how it seems in this case.

Thats my last word on the matter anyway.

I would never and have never played the disability card on here or anywhere else, ever. And I certainly don't think fio pointed it out purely because I have a disability, she knows me well enough to know that disability is not an issue as far as I'm concerned.

on and

thats/that's

ulB · 15/02/2008 16:24

Nope - my view is an 'in principle' one - not based on that thread at all. Though when I read the thread I thought it was rude and uncalled for and an innapropriate interjection in a delicate thread.

My only surprise now is that you seem to be saying saying that you only apologised in the light of the fact that you found out that wannabe is visually impaired, but now that she has said she doesn't expect anyone to take that into account regrading her spelling, you are withdrawing your need to apologise for correcting someone's spelling in a thread on abortion?

oh well.

Maybe it's been a long week all round!

Jacanne · 15/02/2008 16:25

I guess it is pretty petty though my fingers do itch everytime someone spells weird "wierd" which seems to happen so frequently that I've actually wondered whether the spelling had officially changed - has it?

Lots of spelling mistakes are due to typing at speed I think. I hate the fact that you can't edit posts on MN - though I guess it does make life more interesting.

has anyone noticed it's waxing gibbous?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 15/02/2008 16:27

Well lots of people believe the i before e except after c but forget the exceptions.

You can get a spellchecker in your browser.

Twiglett · 15/02/2008 16:27

maybe he is slightly incontinent checkers?

ulB · 15/02/2008 16:28

trickle?

Oblomov · 15/02/2008 16:28

Devil, now you are calling the old disability trump card ?
Man, you are on one, at the moment !
