Grim

Anyone else sick of seeing this word. So embarrassingly overused by posters thinking they are edgy.

Only really see it on MN

TomatoSandwiches · 16/04/2023 20:50

Some things really are very grim though.

M340 · 16/04/2023 20:51

I think it's a perfectly normal word.

I don't think people are trying to be edgy, just describing quite a grim situation.
I wouldn't let a word bother me that much tbh.

FannyPhart · 16/04/2023 20:51

Grim...

Greensleevevssnotnose · 16/04/2023 20:51

Ilove it it's a great word.

SunshineGeorgie · 16/04/2023 20:52

I don't think of it as edgy or embarrassing , it's a fitting word for many a thing!

Vile annoys me a bit though

Spottycarousel · 16/04/2023 20:58

I used it a lot at university in the late 90s.

Not so much now.

stbrandonsboat · 16/04/2023 21:00

Vile is the one that's inappropriately used. People will use it to describe some pretty mild behaviour which is no where near being vile.

PriamFarrl · 16/04/2023 21:00

I only see overly judgemental people using it. ‘You use your towels more than once, grim’.

HasaDiga · 16/04/2023 21:01

How is it edgy? It’s just a word

Crinkle77 · 16/04/2023 21:01

The over use of the word 'horrified' annoys me. It's usually used to describe something unpleasant or nasty but not horrifying. I often think how would people describe something truly horrific happened.

Fairislefandango · 16/04/2023 21:02

Normal word. Not remotely edgy Confused

UrsulaPandress · 16/04/2023 21:03

It’s a word I use frequently. I’m 63. Nothing remotely edgy about me. It’s just a word.

youboozeyoulose · 16/04/2023 21:08

I didn't say the word was edgy. I said the people using it think they are being edgy.

People don't say it very often anywhere other than MN. It's proper MN "lingo".

Edgy? 😂

Has someone offended you by saying something you do is grim OP?

Namechangenoidea · 16/04/2023 21:13

Ive seen people quote other posters and just write grim under it. So rude and makes me think they are describing themselves!

WouldYouLikeYourMuffinButtered · 16/04/2023 21:16

Grim is ok but I dislike the word Crass.

Namechangenoidea · 16/04/2023 21:16

Yea I think it’s when someone uses the word to describe a posters actions I think it comes across as really judgemental and snobbish.

It’s used fairly commonly where I live.

There was a very frail, elderly woman in the village shop who called the weather grim recently. She was just wet and cold though, she didn’t appear like she thought she was edgy. 😅

Chocchip11 · 16/04/2023 21:19

I hate when people say shitshow, very annoying. I think grim is a fairly standard word.

I agree. I use it mostly when talking about the weather but only this weekend I used it to describe the state of my local A&E ( think it progressed to dire).
I'm a middle aged granny and lm far from edgy

Hellzbellz25 · 16/04/2023 21:22

I've said grim for years! There's nothing edgy about it it's donkeys years old

ilovesooty · 16/04/2023 21:26

Never use or hear it in normal conversation. It's become tedious on here in my opinion and is used for so many things it looks lazy.

Bluebells1970 · 16/04/2023 21:28

I say the weather is grim most days... always have?

UrsulaPandress · 16/04/2023 21:30

Maybe it’s a Northern thing.

It’s also the nickname of someone very close to me so I use it often.
