Just for fun

And to give me ideas on all the things I'm not doing but should

Drink more water
Get more fibre
Take magnesium
At least two omega 3 fish portions per week
Walk or ride anywhere within 1 mile radius of home

What else. There must be loads.

I’m more worried about outliving the NHS to be honest.
I’m minded to run my body down and stockpile painkillers.

Rubbishonthemotorway · 16/04/2023 23:09

Do the things that make you happy

Lots of evidence that repeated covid infections are having long term impacts on health.
Life expectancy has already reduced to the point where government are no longer increasing pension age as planned.
So my top tips are:

  • Open a window
  • Wear a good mask (FFP2/3)
  • Use an antiviral nasal spray such as Boots Dual Defence or Viraleze
  • Join the campaign for clean air in public spaces (especially schools and health settings)
  • Do not vote Conservative
  • Sign the petition for masks in healthcare

Petition: Protect the NHS and All Healthcare: Require #MasksInHealthcare

We urge the Government to implement a policy requiring mask wearing in all healthcare settings including hospitals, clinics and GP practices for staff, visitors and patients. An FFP2 minimum should be mandated, to protect against infectious diseases, i...

Yoga or stretching - to stay fit and mobile and help with any other exercise taken.

Spend time in nature - good for mental well-being.

The reduce stress suggestions are absolutely on point - actually doing this is much more tricky/. - any tips welcomed.

Wear a bike helmet when riding.

eat dark chocolate
drink red wine

These aren't going to keep you healthy or help you live longer. Unless you have found some version of them that doesn't contain any fat, sugar or alcohol.

oh dear - I really liked that suggestion!!!

OnceRuralNowUrbanbliss · 17/04/2023 06:36

Don't do what my mum did and lie on the sofa for thirty years from age 40 watching rolling news but instead do what my aunts have done - stay active at the gym and on walking holidays.
The difference in them on the dance floor at recent wedding was marked. Twirly jiving from my aunts barely able to stand and shuffle from my mum.

JeepersCreeperrs · 17/04/2023 07:01

Strength train.

sleep 8-10h

cut sugar and upf

Let me please drop dead around 75
I’ll be back in the booze fags and drugs at 70 to hurry it along

You might think differently about dropping dead when you're 74.

100% dark chocolate has no sugar.m red wine has zero effect on blood glucose levels. Both are definitely healthy options in moderation of course.

Worldgonecrazy · 17/04/2023 07:11

There are four pillars to health: fitness, diet, mental health, and sleep.

Get sweaty at least four times a week, eat as much unprocessed food as possible and research genuinely healthy foods, ensure you have someone to share troubles with, buy yourself the best bed and bedding possible.

im inspired by the healthy and active 80 to 90 year olds around me.

If your genes are fucked like mine, just do what you want! cuz we all die of something

See, I like you, that's the right attitude. Why do people want to live 'long?'. What is long, 50? 80? 100?

I just want to enjoy my life without thousands of restrictions.

I think get enough sleep and stay active (not just body, brain too) is enough for me. Eat generally healthy but still enjoy the finer things. It's all about balance.

UnaOfStormhold · 17/04/2023 07:24

For me it's not so much about length of life but about length of healthy life. And yes there's always luck but the things I can control give me a better chance.

Sleep, maintaining strength and a healthy cardiovascular system, and eating well are all really important. Bone health too for me as I have osteoporosis in my genes.

Mobility is really Important and often downplayed and something I am working on at the moment is trying to sit in chairs less (aiming for less than 6 hours a day) as this seems to have a really big impact on mortality even among people who exercise.

electricmoccasins · 17/04/2023 07:34

Lift weights especially after 40

squidwid · 17/04/2023 07:36

You need to be inspired everyday and if you don't like something you need to change something.

Trust in the universe.

Eat healthily and exercise.

Do things that make you happy.

Lottapianos · 17/04/2023 07:40

It's not 30 different fruit and veg- it's 30 different plant based foods. That includes fruit and veg obvs, but also nuts, seeds, beans, pulses, legumes and wholegrains

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 17/04/2023 07:41

I’m 64. Currently I’m looking after myself pretty well to ensure I stay fit enough to enjoy my retirement. But I want to know what I have to do to wake up dead the day after my 85th birthday.

watcherintherye · 16/04/2023 20:16

Keep the brain active - learn a new language or instrument, do crosswords and puzzles.

This.

Have lost many elderly loved ones over the last few years, who were physically pretty fit & strong, but it was their minds that let them down in the end.

TwoProngedFork · 17/04/2023 07:46

@EmmaEmerald Coping strategy for me I'm afraid - gallows humour.

Ylvamoon · 17/04/2023 07:48

Keep physically active.
Have more than one hobby/ intrestand keep up to date in current affairs.

Eat sensibly- so don't overeat and have all the "bad stuff" in moderation.

Fairyliz · 17/04/2023 07:58

Being in my 60’s I’ve been thinking about this for the last few years.
However thinking about the relatives/friends I know who have passed away there seems to be absolutely no correlation between lifestyle and when they die.
So my advice is stop worrying about what will definitely happen in the future and enjoy this moment.

Aslanplustwo · 17/04/2023 07:58

Isseywith3witchycats · 16/04/2023 21:24

enjoy life friend of mine non smoker non drinker vegetarian died of a brain anurism in her mid forties so my outlook on life is if fate decrees you will have a long life nothing you do in life within reason will get in the way of that goal

My neighbour and I were discussing this a few hours ago and came to the same conclusion. It's sensible not to abuse our bodies but otherwise just leave it to the fates and enjoy life.

Cycling in itself is beneficial, helmet or no helmet
