How do you not spend your Sundays worrying about work Monday?!

So often I find myself on a Sunday worrying about the next working week- how do you manage to make the most of your weekend without worrying?

PinkFootstool · 16/04/2023 09:53

I changed job. Now I love my work and I don't worry about Mondays any more.

I used to sit in the car before work, building myself up to go into the building. Not any more!

PinkiOcelot · 16/04/2023 09:54

I don’t worry because I don’t mind going on the whole. Do you have worries about work, are you not happy with work or do you worry and then are perfectly fine when there?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/04/2023 09:57

Depends what you are worrying about.

  1. Workload. In this instance, it may be worth setting aside 30mins focus time in your calendar for after lunch on Friday. Then spend that time writing out a realistic to do list for the next week ahead. You may see some minor tasks on there you can box off before end of Friday
  1. Hate the job. Start job hunting.
  2. Hate the people. Start job hunting.
  3. Hate the culture. Start job hunting
  1. Hate that you even have to work. Run the figures. What would finances look like if you dropped a day / one day per fortnight. Would different hours work to alleviate?
  1. Hate a specific task that's always done on a Monday. See if it can be moved to give you some easing into the week time.

This is excellent advice

blackteaplease · 16/04/2023 09:58

I try to write a to do list on Friday before finishing and any work worries that crop up on a weekend get added to it. That way they're acknowledged but not stuck going round and round my head

lilmadmel · 16/04/2023 10:00

I do! I’m stuck there because the one good thing are the hours at the moment and I can’t find anything else that fits around my life. Also I used to love it.

Mañanarama · 16/04/2023 10:01

You’re just wrecking your own weekend by worrying about Monday, so stop it!

Aside from that, do exactly what @BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz said.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 16/04/2023 10:02

I love my job.

I'm also self-employed so pick my clients and hours - I have nothing to dread about Mondays because I planned it all myself and I turn away any clients who don't fit my business.

MrsDoylesDoily · 16/04/2023 10:02

I'm very very lucky in that I found a job I absolutely love.

That didn't happen until my late 40s though!

Xjshdvf · 16/04/2023 10:02

I try and end the week with a to do list for the following week so I know what I’ve got on. I’m in the position where I manage my own diary so I try not to book anything into Monday morning that I’ll dread the night before and if possible keep it free to do paperwork bits.
if you’re really dreading it though I’d be rethinking the job.

LostAtTheCrossRoad · 16/04/2023 10:27

I quite like my job, and at the same time I don't care enough about it to worry nor to allow any worry to distract me on a weekend.

WhatTheHeckyPeck · 16/04/2023 10:39

I was once told "worrying about Monday on a Sunday is pointless. Monday will happen no matter what. Whatever happens will happen, there is nothing you can do on Sunday that will change that so why waste precious time worrying about something that you have no control over".

FWIW I made a (not huge, but big enough), mistake on Friday which I am fully expecting will result in a chat with my manager on Monday. Nothing I can do this weekend will stop that happening so I've just got on with having a good couple of days and will deal with tomorrow when it gets here.

Hoppingmad231 · 16/04/2023 10:42

I don't worry about it I do get the argh work tomorrow feeling tho a few times.

Cattunnel · 16/04/2023 11:03

I work a rotating shift pattern, so there is never a Monday

I don't think about work when I'm off shift !

alltoomuchrightnow · 16/04/2023 11:05

Because I work every Sunday! Off there right now. Usually off Mondays. Choose a job that isn't 9-5 Mon- Fri! No two weeks are the same for me although I work every weekend and a few days in the week

getthewashinginbeforethespidersrubtheirwillies · 16/04/2023 11:05

The last half hour of my Friday is spent prepping what I need for then next week

& I like my job

HelpMeGetThrough · 16/04/2023 11:11

I got to this stage, fed up with the whinging team I manage. Changed job in the organisation and have a week or two left of their whinging before I go. I just don't listen to them anymore.

If they knew what was now coming, they probably would have heeded my advice to shut up and get on.

Naimee87 · 16/04/2023 12:31

I feel like this with one job i have, the office job. I forgot to turn notifications off on my works phone and its gone mad over weekend. Not that i have to respond. Is it an office based job you have? I feel like nowadays there is a kind of work 24/7 attitude

For my other job i never feel that way i get excited… it‘s a more physically demanding job and arguably more stressful than being in an office. I think the business world and mindset just isn‘t for me…

As hard as it is to forget about monday, i‘d go for a hike/run or walk the dog and binge watch a series with my phone off!

Jagoda · 16/04/2023 12:41

Excellent advice from Bernadette.

What is the actual problem OP?

midsomermurderess · 16/04/2023 12:48

I think this can be useful: Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Barton10 · 16/04/2023 13:05

I have a fabulous boss and took a slightly lower paying job with less stress. I wasted too much time when my children were small worrying unnecessarily. Even ruining a holiday for myself as I was stressed about work. I am so lucky now and I appreciate that.

Desiredeffect · 16/04/2023 13:11

I just left a clique long houred badly paid job and the day before I was sue to start a 15 hour shift my anxiety would be high. I start a less stressful job soon and will look forward to it. If unhappy get out of it

Albiboba · 16/04/2023 13:12

Get a job you don’t hate?
I can’t say I ever spend any of my Sundays worrying about work.

Livebythecoast · 16/04/2023 13:35

This. Worked in NHS admin/reception for 15 years. Would start Sunday afternoon with the worry, sadness, anxiety. Changed jobs last May. No jitters Sunday now.

Obviously it's not always as simple as that though if the money is good, hours suit etc. I worked Monday to Friday in NHS, now work 4 days a week in admin/HR for more money, great benefits, no abuse and a lot less stress.
