How do you not spend your Sundays worrying about work Monday?!

So often I find myself on a Sunday worrying about the next working week- how do you manage to make the most of your weekend without worrying?

I work in a company with a really great culture. Lots of stressful things to do this week, but not feeling anxious about work at all. I’ll do my best to get through it, and have loads of support so I’m not worried. Also really like my team so looking forward to seeing them.

Hasn’t always been this way when I worked for other companies, so you have my sympathizer, OP.

'I changed job. Now I love my work and I don't worry about Mondays any more.'

Same here. Not doing cartwheels at the thought of Monday, but certainly no dread either. Used to feel sick from about midday onwards on Sunday, and sleep really badly Sunday night. All stopped when I changed jobs

Mortimercat · 16/04/2023 13:57

I don’t worry about Mondays because I have a job I like. I took a step down in the workforce a few years ago which also helped, I have little responsibility these days.

Rockbird · 16/04/2023 13:58

I'm not usually bad but I'm very anxious now because I've been off for Easter (school). I love the job and my colleagues, no worries at all. But I'm in knots at the moment.

MarshaBradyo · 16/04/2023 13:58

I changed career, I didn’t totally hate it before but I’d keep on for the next payslip in a way. I look forward to being left to work now.

Oysterbabe · 16/04/2023 14:01

I used to have an absolute sick dread feeling, sometimes I'd even cry. It was because my job was so, so stressful and I lived in constant fear of fucking something up. It was ruining my life, I was either at work or thinking about work every waking hour.
I got a new job and don't get this anymore. Get a new job.

Zipidydodah · 16/04/2023 14:16

I resigned!! From tomorrow, I’ll be officially unemployed but I literally couldn’t do it anymore. Exhausted and in bed on Friday by 9pm, working to catch up on Saturday and then anxious and feeling sick on Sunday. I had no life anyway as any money spent going out or doing anything was wasted by constantly worrying about work so I stopped even trying, saved up every penny I could and then resigned. Today is the first Sunday I haven’t ruined for myself and DH. The sense of relief at not having to go back tomorrow is incredible

Freshair1 · 16/04/2023 15:11

Feeling this. Thinks its like the deep breath before the plunge. The nerves are your body readying for the stress and demands. I'm going to wash my hair, make a to do list for tomorrow and then logically think through my day. Chances are it'll be dull and uneventful, but you never know in a school.

C1239 · 16/04/2023 15:16

Thank you everyone for your replies! I think it’s because I put pressure on myself to be great at the job everyday and I just end up stressing myself out. I want to be able to think it’s just about job, go do the hours, get paid and don’t think about it outside of that but I seem to find that hard to do!

I don't worry about Mondays as there is nothign to worry about. So, that's easy. I get up Monday morning, start work, work until its time to finish, and then log off.
I rarely think about work when I'm not in work.

BenCoopersSupportWren · 16/04/2023 15:22

I changed jobs, now I’m relaxed and can enjoy my weekends, evenings and holidays stress-free.

It’s still a professional role (and the salary is very slightly better than the old stressful job) but in a different organisation, with no line management responsibilities and it’s more strategic than operational/frontline.

This is excellent advice

Yes brilliant.

Also from my enormously ancient age of 53-- literally every single time I was stressed about work throughout my life? Was nothing. It was absolutely a non-issue. I was so stressed about this or that and I barely remember the details now. Yes we all want to do our best at work, but do your best each day and then forget about it.

grayhairdontcare · 16/04/2023 15:57

Because i do just a job.
I do it as well as I can while I'm there but I'm only there for the money .

I'm not trying to be gilb, but get some therapy for this. Do a good job, keep your goals in mind, but don't knock yourself out for a job.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 16/04/2023 16:25

Until I log in on Monday I literally do not care what is happening at work. Not my problem.

KatieB55 · 16/04/2023 16:25

Life is too short! Find another job.

Good for you! I did this getting out of NHS, just literally couldn't do it anymore. Was ruining any family time I had, permanently stressed and not nice to be around. I'm a much better person having got a lovely job now. Obviously it's not that easy for everyone and I was extremely lucky to have some savings to see me through a few months. Wishing you all the best on your next venture 🤗

TheChosenTwo · 16/04/2023 16:30

I don’t care enough about my job to worry about it. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy it enough and it’s quite varied but it’s not something I’m passionate about and it’s literally a job that pays me well with good perks. I work hard while I’m there and don’t think about it again until I work again the next day. Plus no Monday commute as I work from home 4 days a week which is absolutely heavenly.
A far cry from my old school job where I began to dread Sundays, it was a big sign that I needed to get out.

Sarah180818 · 16/04/2023 16:33

How much do you enjoy your job? What exactly are you worrying about?
We always try and plan things for a Sunday and usually away from the city we love in. We find then we tend to switch off better and not worry about the following week as much

C1239 · 16/04/2023 17:19

I think I feel extra worried as there are a hectic couple of months coming up and I just think it’s going to be really stressful

Zipidydodah · 16/04/2023 17:21

Thanks - I haven’t felt ‘normal’ for so long I’ve forgotten who I am.

Education here. The public sector is absolutely fucked …… there will literally be no one left.

Zipidydodah · 16/04/2023 17:22

Sorry that was for Livebythecoast

beeskipa · 16/04/2023 17:46

I like my job. Sounds glib, but that's the trick to it, really: either have ironclad compartmentalisation skills (very difficult - not sure how you could just switch your brain off at the weekend!), or have a job you don't dread going to.

Flavabobble · 16/04/2023 17:55

I don't do a mon-fri job. I do 5 on, 3 off so my five days in a row fall at different times of the week.
What's weird is that I never worry about going into work unless I'm off on a Sunday and I'm in the next day.

user1471538283 · 16/04/2023 17:59

When I had a vile boss or a job I hated I couldn't switch off. Now I like my job but I still only consciously give it my paid hours attention.

I've seen repeatedly how no matter how good you are or how hard you work or worry about your job you are no better thought of and even people you thought you were on your side really are not.
