So often I find myself on a Sunday worrying about the next working week- how do you manage to make the most of your weekend without worrying?

I truly love my job.

6 weeks ago I had the most stressful 3 days you could ever have at work. At the end of day 2, I was walking the corridors smiling and telling colleagues I frikking love my job.

Really looking forward to tomorrow 😁

Thank you everyone for your replies! I think it’s because I put pressure on myself to be great at the job everyday and I just end up stressing myself out. I want to be able to think it’s just about job, go do the hours, get paid and don’t think about it outside of that but I seem to find that hard to do!

You've summed it up perfectly in your second sentence, this is what I'm like. I'm very competent at my job and pull my weight in the team, but once I've finished for the day that's it and I rarely give it a second thought until the next day.

I’m dreading tomorrow. I’m not sleeping. I’ve had jobs where I haven’t felt like this at all. Sign I’m not in the right job. Job hunting at the moment.

ISeeTheLight · 16/04/2023 18:12

I don't worry because I like my job - the content, what i actually do, my colleagues - and I have a manageable workload.
This wasn't always the case, worst was when I had a shit manager who was always looking to blame someone and a mountain of a workload that just grew and grew.
Find another job.

NeedToChangeName · 16/04/2023 18:13

In the past, by Saturday morning, I was already dreading returning to work on Monday

Now, I love my job. Friday night / Monday morning, it's all the same to me. And occasionally, I will choose to do a bit of work over the weekend, because I enjoy it and genuinely find it interesting

I wish I had changed direction earlier. I spent too long thinking that most people didn't enjoy their work and that was only to be expected. I really wish I had known that it didn't have to be that way

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 16/04/2023 18:13

What job do you do OP? Is it stressful - or is it more that you are putting yourself under pressure ?

I have found work a lot less stressful since I've been working from home - aside from the obvious that I don't have the commute, I don't get caught up in office politics and can ignore other people's stress and pressure a lot easier .

Dollmeup · 16/04/2023 18:14

I changed jobs to one I don't hate. I used to cry the day before going back in!

Depends what you are worrying about.

  1. Workload. In this instance, it may be worth setting aside 30mins focus time in your calendar for after lunch on Friday. Then spend that time writing out a realistic to do list for the next week ahead. You may see some minor tasks on there you can box off before end of Friday
  1. Hate the job. Start job hunting.
  2. Hate the people. Start job hunting.
  3. Hate the culture. Start job hunting
  1. Hate that you even have to work. Run the figures. What would finances look like if you dropped a day / one day per fortnight. Would different hours work to alleviate?
  1. Hate a specific task that's always done on a Monday. See if it can be moved to give you some easing into the week time.

Absolutely this.

TorchwoodWho · 16/04/2023 18:19

I never worried about my job, but I didn't really enjoy it. I handed my notice in and am taking a break for a while. I'll go back to work in a few months at most, but I want to find something worth doing that I actually enjoy this time, that makes all the difference.

This.

I am another person who got a new job and no longer hates Mondays.

I also moved to 4 days a week which is another game changer.

Babdoc · 16/04/2023 18:27

I’m retired now, but when I was a widowed single parent, who felt very lonely at weekends with just two young children and all the housework and gardening to deal with, I really looked forward to getting back to work for some adult company. Plus I enjoyed my job as a hospital doctor. It was high stress, but very satisfying.

Fairislefandango · 16/04/2023 18:30

I don't dread Mondays. I used to when I worked in bad schools (I'm a teacher), but not now that I work in a good school. I do lots of preparation after school every day and work on Sunday mornings so that I feel prepared and have the rest of Sunday to chill out.

AlwaysGinPlease · 16/04/2023 18:32

I love my job so I don't get it. Other jobs gave me the Monday blues.

Switchwitch · 16/04/2023 18:34

Write a to do list using a bullet journal last thing on a Friday so you've dumped it all from your brain.

Doesn't stop me spending all afternoon on Sunday stressing about the school run though!

philautia · 16/04/2023 18:43

Get a job you love. That's the only solution. No amount of counselling or distraction is going to make you feel ambivalent about a job you are dreading doing.

Speaking as a person who has been there.

Echobelly · 16/04/2023 18:47

TBH, I just chose a fairly low stress field where no one will die if anything goes wrong so I don't have to think about it much when I'm not working.

Shirty48 · 16/04/2023 18:53

I have chosen not to chase promotion like many of my colleagues- consequently work is not stressful and I don’t think about it at all when I’m not there. I’d rather not work but it’s not terrible when I’m there. Having alternative Mondays off also helps!

Everydayshouldbe · 16/04/2023 18:59

I'm too old to find a new job without accepting a large drop in salary and conditions, which my family couldn't manage. So I do feel very stuck. Can work on improving what I can and changing my attitude as much as possible

Ragged · 16/04/2023 19:01

Contract dropped from 5 to 3 days/week (not my preference). No way am I going to get stressed about a job now on reduced hours.

Stopsnowing · 16/04/2023 19:06

Plan something engrossing and enjoyable on Sunday evening

FloorWipes · 16/04/2023 19:17

I used to love my job. At the moment however I have burnout. Overall in my life, including in my job, the demands placed on me are exceeding my capacity to fulfil them. Being as 'at capacity' as I am, coming up with solutions for this is also very difficult. My mental and physical health are really suffering. Solidarity OP. You sound like you are overwhelmed.

I'm sorry you're feeling like this but I really like how you have expressed it - demands exceeding capacity. This expresses something I've found hard to

HumphreysCorner · 16/04/2023 19:32

I've just changed my job too. Dreaded the working week ahead.

OhVicIveFallen · 16/04/2023 19:34

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 16/04/2023 10:02

I love my job.

I'm also self-employed so pick my clients and hours - I have nothing to dread about Mondays because I planned it all myself and I turn away any clients who don't fit my business.

Good for you, not really helpful to the op though isit?
