Adult female:

Breakfast - bowl of cereal with milk, apple juice
Lunch - chicken toastie with side salad and a few crisps, water
Snack (lunch was early) - beans on toast, 2 biscuits
Dinner - homemade chicken curry and rice with peas, water

Is this too much?

Depends on your activity levels I guess.it seems a fair bit to me .beans on toast or a toasties would be fine for me. Not both .but someone else may find it fine .

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 13/04/2023 20:22

MN is the WORST place to ask ‘is this too much food’ questions as there are some seriously pro-ana posters on here.

Also biscuits are scarily high calorie as are toasties and crisps.

Are we supposed to be scared of calories?

Justcallmebebes · 13/04/2023 20:25

There's a quite a lot of sugar in that

CurlyTop1980 · 13/04/2023 20:26

That's alot
But depends on the size. Today I've eaten a bowl of bran flakes with almond milk. 2 coffees.

A snack of a nut bar. Lunch was a cheese and coleslaw brown bread sandwich. Diet coke.

Dinner was a small bowl of chicken and rice soup.

adriftabroad · 13/04/2023 19:51

that is not a snack! You had 2 lunches!

Yeah, beans on toast isn't a snack in my world.

MargotEdithAgnes · 13/04/2023 20:29

I think it's fine if you're keeping quite active. I wouldn't think of beans on toast as a snack either, but I don't see how eg one piece of brown toast and a third of a tin of beans is any worse than several smaller snacks throughout the day.

Maybe you need a bigger breakfast so you can have a later lunch and then no snacks?

These threads make my blood boil. The nutrition advice on here is terrifying.

I actually think MN should ban these threads. It’s just a place for people to project their own eating disorders.

BabyofMine · 13/04/2023 20:31

There’s a big difference between a massive bowl of muesli with full fat milk, and a pint glass of juice, and say 30g of rice crispies with skimmed milk and the recommended 150ml of juice. So when one meal can be hundreds of calories difference, it’s really impossible to say.

itsabigtree · 13/04/2023 20:31

It's not excessive! And it's depends on the portion sizes, your life style, metabolism, size etc.

But I wouldn't call beans on toast a snack, it's a meal!

I totally agree.

DrunkOnLove · 13/04/2023 20:33

I wouldn’t eat some of that food but it would be about 1800-2000 calories in the portions I’d serve so fine in terms of calories for me if that was what I chose to eat.

Lots of mumsnetters don’t seem to eat enough or well to get calories and nutrients needed when I’ve read threads on here.

I’ve seem people say a latte and one meal a day of pizza and salad is ok. Lots of people struggling with eating disorders which is very sad.

I’m not sure being thin is ever worth having such miserable bland food in your diet.

redskylight · 13/04/2023 20:33

Is the adult in question putting on weight? If no, then it's not too much.
If yes, then it is.

No way anyone one here can tell you based on the information you've given.

TheUsualChaos · 13/04/2023 20:34

Providing it's not huge portions, it sounds fine to me. I would cut out the apple juice though, high in sugar and terrible for your teeth.

DrPrunesquallor · 13/04/2023 20:34

Sounds ok and healthy.
It does depend on portion size though.
The extra meal is nothing if you consider many people will have snacks aswell throughout the day.

PiffleIsTakingThePiss · 13/04/2023 20:34

Honestly OP? At least two of those meals should be replaced with dust. Make sure no carbs have ever touched that dust though.

ferntwist · 13/04/2023 20:35

That looks totally fine to me, but loads of posters will be here soon to say it’s enough to feed them for a week.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 13/04/2023 20:35

All these people with bran flakes, brown bread and coffee in their diets - they must never be off the toilet!

LumpySpaceGoddess · 13/04/2023 20:36

Yes I would say it is, you listed two big lunches rather than one lunch and a snack.

SouthLondonMum22 · 13/04/2023 20:36

Do people really only eat 'a few crisps'?

I agree, and it baffles me why people post these threads? No good ever comes of them!

IKR! What do they do with the rest of the packet?! 😂

WiddlinDiddlin · 13/04/2023 20:39

How heavy are you?
How tall?
What do you do all day re exercise/movement
Do you want to maintain, gain or lose weight?

Todays menu for me:

Half a protein works shake: 107 cal.

4 Ryvita crackerbreads
Spoon of hummus
half a pepper
3 slices salami
tablespoon of cream cheese : total 481 cal

Home made veg stew (veg, water, stock, etc)
Half a small garlic baguette : total 467 cal

Which is miserable and shit but then its a calorie deficit of well over a thousand calories and designed to minimise the insulin I have to take and cause me to lose weight. So it would be.

I also move about as much as a sloth!
