Does anyone think about Covid anymore?

ouchmyteeth · 13/04/2023 17:33

Feels like measures have sort of.. disappeared. Virtually no precautions whatsoever anywhere these days , not even light measures

My CEV mum doesn’t even mention it or bother with a mask anymore.

It’s like it’s gone away but obviously it has not.

I live in a small Norfolk town and lots of people are still wearing masks 😳 My dd is home from university (Nottingham) at the moment and she was absolutely shocked by it, she said she hasn’t seen anyone still wearing masks anywhere else she’s been. Some people here are still walking around outside wearing them! I’m in the CEV group and binned them as soon as we could. I only really think about covid now when I see the mask wearers.

RonObvious · 13/04/2023 20:32

Yes. Still encouraged to test twice a week by my employers, who are still providing free tests. Plus, when I got Covid it attacked the blood vessels in my lungs, and I ended up in A and E coughing up lots of blood. No previous issues, very fit - regularly run half marathons and the like. Am now very nervous about pushing myself when running, as I don’t know how healed I am. Particularly concerned when I have any kind of cold. Covid also kicked off a horrendous immune condition in a friend of mine, and another friends mother had a stroke after Covid. Get a bit tired of the “mild illness” crew.

Tinkerbyebye · 13/04/2023 20:33

It’s always in the back of my mind and I won’t go to really crowded places, but then I don’t catch anything else by not going either

catsandkid · 13/04/2023 20:35

Yep... doesn't cross my mind on a daily basis anymore tbh

Kvetching · 13/04/2023 20:36

No, never give it a thought now.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 13/04/2023 20:37

No it hasn’t gone away, we have to live with it. Because being in a lockdown or restriction situation is damaging AF and utterly ridiculous. We should actually be ashamed of what we did to people, how we restricted the freedoms of young people and clapped as people were arrested for drinking coffee in a public place.

User3456 · 13/04/2023 20:42

Yes, I think about it a lot and still wear a mask in indoor spaces. I have a post viral illness already and am very concerned about long covid. Also concerned that DS may catch it during exams and it will impact his life chances if he doesn't get the results he needs (he has been quite sick the 2x he has had it already).

I am pretty horrified that the government are stopping even symptomatic testing for staff and patients in hospitals and care homes, for our most vulnerable people. We should all be able to access healthcare without additional concern of picking up an illness that can be potentially serious.

And also concerned that government are withdrawing vaccine offer for anyone that hasn't had their primary course - so for anyone who has been considering it but on the fence, now is the time to decide.

Hundreds still dying every week (500+ last week) and reports of yet another new more infectious variant on the way.

If you're not worried about it for yourself but are able to wear a mask in solidarity with people who are more vulnerable in shops/on public transport/in health settings it would mean so much. And might save you the expense and inconvenience of catching one of the many infections doing the rounds too.

Petition here for masks in healthcare if anyone would like to sign Protect the NHS and All Healthcare: Require #MasksInHealthcare - Petitions (parliament.uk)

Petition: Protect the NHS and All Healthcare: Require #MasksInHealthcare

We urge the Government to implement a policy requiring mask wearing in all healthcare settings including hospitals, clinics and GP practices for staff, visitors and patients. An FFP2 minimum should be mandated, to protect against infectious diseases, i...

PopGoesTheProsecco · 13/04/2023 20:48

Have Long Covid. Run a work based LC support group. I think about Covid most days and sometimes cry, longing for my pre-Covid days when I used to be able to run 5Ks, go to the gym and generally be active.

Now my life revolves around trying different supplement regimes and pacing.

I consider myself lucky though as some in our support group are still unable to use their arms properly, have developed asthma since Covid and have multiple health issues.

I think about it . My friends and I all trst if we meet. They do this to accommodate me. I have been living like a recluse. I can't get my head round the fact that no measures are being taken. I had blood test ither day, arrived in my mask- nurse no mask 🙄asked if I wanted her to wear a mask. Err yep.

@BCBird

are you extremely clinically vulnerable?

Whatkindofuckeryisthis · 13/04/2023 21:06

No! It’s been forgotten about by the media and they’re not promoting the vaccine etc anymore so that just tells you it was a load of bollocks! We were all scared in to getting a vaccine when we have no idea what was in it! It was such a weird time in our lives and I was terrified… but I’m now just angry and resentful that we wasted so much time worrying about it!!

tigger1001 · 13/04/2023 21:12

Was at my gp today and they still insist on face masks. Was reminded how much I hated them as a glasses wearer.

But other than that, I haven't thought about covid for some time

I know about 10 people who have Covid at the minute, no-one hospitalised but a few poorly in bed for days. Its on my mind because its being mentioned, but I don't worry about it.

That many? Are they all fully vaccinated? If so, how ill might they have been if they hadn't had all the doses. It doesn't bear thinking about. Flowers

PiercingsAndTattoosRockChick · 13/04/2023 21:17

Me, I'm showing signs of COVID but though 2 tests earlier came up positive and 1 was negative so I'll be doing one later on again. Hopefully not this new variant that's making its rounds! 😭

I had all the vaccines and extra boosters. Was in bed for ten days and a month later can only manage a couple of hours out of bed (sitting up) a day

I'm so sorry, it must have been unimaginable. So many of us were completely cocooned from the real trauma of it

My mum worked in hospitals but away from the most serious wards (as she was 63 at the start) and even that sounded harrowing, but she is very upset that people have forgotten what her nursing and medical colleagues went through

MissConductUS · 13/04/2023 21:21

My whole family got it right before Christmas, which completely scuppered our holiday plans. We were all fully vaccinated, but it was still pretty awful for a few days.

My two DD's work in hospitals, so I'm aware that Covid is still filling wards and causing deaths. My fit and healthy DD, 25, recently needed antibiotics to get rid of a chest infection. The doctor said that more under 30's, who've had Covid are needing antibiotics. Previously they would have shaken the chest infection off. Likewise younger people are needing an extra night on oxygen after surgery. Covid is different to other seasonal illnesses and we don't know what having Covid twice a year will do after ten years. But I don't agree that masks etc should be reintroduced. Social distancing was quite nice, though.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/04/2023 21:32

I’m just recovering from it and have felt pretty lousy (triple jabbed and otherwise fit and healthy). Really annoying as I’m on holiday and have spent most of the time in bed! My DP has it now and I can hear him hacking away in the spare room where he’s been banished.

I'm so sorry, I know several people who were so active and fit previously and long COVID has done this to them.

No. Except very occasionally if I have to wear a mask at the doctors or whatever.

I always knew it was over hyped by the horrific media we have in the UK

You’re obviously not a health care worker then are you. It was horrific.

sst1234 · 13/04/2023 21:53

Most people have moved on as the Covid bus has rolled out of town. Even the shrill hysterical ones realize that we’re duped into complying with pointless and destructive restrictions.

Anyone still obsessing over Covid has mental health issues and need to get help to deal with that obsession.

AuntieMarys · 13/04/2023 21:54

I don't give it a second thought. I'm vaccinated and had all boosters, never had Covid.
Would I have further boosters? Not sure.
