Does anyone think about Covid anymore?

ouchmyteeth · 13/04/2023 17:33

Feels like measures have sort of.. disappeared. Virtually no precautions whatsoever anywhere these days , not even light measures

My CEV mum doesn’t even mention it or bother with a mask anymore.

It’s like it’s gone away but obviously it has not.

I think about it . My friends and I all trst if we meet. They do this to accommodate me. I have been living like a recluse. I can't get my head round the fact that no measures are being taken. I had blood test ither day, arrived in my mask- nurse no mask 🙄asked if I wanted her to wear a mask. Err yep.

Are you getting help ? Im sure you know that's not a healthy way to live and imo your friends aren't doing you any favours

HandbagsAtDawns · 13/04/2023 17:54

Yes I do, I really don't want anyone in my space still or coughing near me

Purplepeopleeaterz · 13/04/2023 17:54

Sort of, I do still sanitise my hands after using the petrol pumps and pushing a shopping trolley round even though I know it’s airborne. Avoid anyone coughing and spluttering where possible but that’s something I’ve always done as who wants someone else’s germs covid or not.

Also have an irrational fear of not being able to breathe as that’s the worst part of panic attacks when I have them so the longer I can go without catching it the better.

Lolaandbehold · 13/04/2023 17:58

The whole thing was a farce, and I largely ignored it at the time anyway; I never think about it aside from looking back nostalgically. We had a lovely time in lockdown, hanging out with my family in the pool, alfresco dining at home every night and meeting friends for socially distanced drinks in the park every week.

Had covid twice, was like a bad flu and I thought to myself, we shut down the world for that? More people die of flu every year and we are not all shielding for these people. 🤷‍♀️

Anonymouseposter · 13/04/2023 18:02

I don't worry about Covid, even though I know 3 vulnerable people who died with it. There does seem to be a lot of Covid around at the moment , perhaps we have got a bit too blasé about it. I know it's only like flu for most people now but long Covid is still a possibility. I'm not suggesting we should all be isolating but keeping away from people and masking if unwell isn't a bad idea.

Anothernamename · 13/04/2023 18:03

No I don’t.
The thought of social distancing and wearing a mask for the rest of my life is just far too depressing. We do not behave like that with any other illness. Strep A, for example, exists and isn’t going anywhere but we don’t worry about it day in day out and adjust our lives to avoid it. Getting ill is sadly a part of life - I don’t believe people should stop living normally to avoid an illness that most people can survive with no issues.

I feel for those that are CEV because I know it’s much harder for them, but it’s not reasonable to expect people to follow measures until Covid disappears, because it is never going to disappear. We don’t social distance for any other illness ‘just in case’. Most people accept there is an element of risk to being alive and they don’t think about getting unwell daily.

Lcb123 · 13/04/2023 18:04

No more than any other illness. Haven’t tested for over a year even with several illnessss

TribeD · 13/04/2023 18:05

Yes I do.

Long covid has impacted me, so I do think about it. I've tested DD today as she is running a temp, has a streaming nose and vomiting. We are due to meet up with a CEV (Stage IV Terminal) friend at the weekend - and it feels like the right thing to do before we meet up.

IsAnybody · 13/04/2023 18:07

I do. My lovely 98yr old Nan was admitted to hospital end of Jan as she fell and bruised up her legs which caused swelling. She was doing fine until she caught COVID whilst in hospital. She didn't recover and the death certificate said something along the lines of complications due to CP. What I find sad is how she isolated all through the lockdowns and would say if she ever got admitted to hospital, that she would catch covid and never leave, which is exactly what happened.

sleepyscientist · 13/04/2023 18:08

Only in the sense of I'm suffering with hay fever so testing daily for work. Has it twice once asymptomatic once with a fever and sickness. It's hard because I said from the start this will be endemic and could see any measures to reduce it only bought time for the NHS.

theswoot · 13/04/2023 18:09

I work on the public inquiry, so it’s fair to say that it takes up a fair amount of my brain most days

kthnxbai · 13/04/2023 18:10

Yes, we do. It's a nasty bugger. We run on Davos-safe lines here.

Overthebow · 13/04/2023 18:15

No not really, it’s just another illness that goes around now like all the others. I haven’t tested in ages and probably won’t again as I treat it like any other illness now.

Whendovescry03 · 13/04/2023 18:26

No, although a colleague asked this morning if I'd done a test because I've got a cough, sore throat and headache and it was the first I'd heard about covid in a long time.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 13/04/2023 18:27

No, not specifically covid (though feel so sorry for anyone still suffering the after effects 💐). Such a batshit weird time, but interesting to have lived through - the kind of moment in history they’ll be doing school projects on in 30 years.

But I do think more about transmissible stuff (colds & flu) generally. I was always a hand washer, but I would now always wear a mask for the sake if others if I need to go out when I’m a bit poorly, and I also wear one to give myself a level of protection in the winter, when loads of people are coughing and hawking in the supermarket. The general ubiquity of hand san stations is a good thing IMO, as is the fact you can now wear a mask if you want/need to (as they’ve always done in parts of Asia) without question.

QueenBee1234 · 13/04/2023 18:33

No, I barely thought about it at the time so definitely not doing so now!

BCBird · 13/04/2023 18:34

I'm.nkt getting any help but thank you for your concern. I don't tbink, nor fo my friends, doing a test is that much of a big deal. If someone told me they had chickenpox,I would choose not to.meet them. I suffering bereavement of my partner. Dark times.

BCBird · 13/04/2023 18:35

Hope we never ha e another lockdown,as someone who lives aline,I found it intolerable. If we do I will be inviting myself to stay with anyone who will have me🤣

x2boys · 13/04/2023 18:37

Newusernameaug · 13/04/2023 17:40

I always knew it was over hyped by the horrific media we have in the UK

Well f that was The case the whole world hyped it up.surely?

dapsnotplimsolls · 13/04/2023 18:37

I know several people who have it or have had it in the last few weeks.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 13/04/2023 18:37

Not really, I’ve had it twice now and it’s been like a mild cold both times. Obviously I appreciate it can still be worse for a small number of people but not reason enough to have any restrictions now IMO. I was vulnerable but I’m group 4, not CEV.

Fluffyhoglets · 13/04/2023 18:39

Only insofar that I would avoid my cev relatives if I have covid symptoms. I no longer worry as much as they survived one bout and hopefully would another if they keep getting offered vaccination.

But otherwise it's now endemic so can only choose to vaccinate and hope for the best in avoiding long term post viral impacts if I catch it again.

Lindy2 · 13/04/2023 18:40

I still think about it but feel that life has to go on despite Covid still being pretty widespread.

I know of 1 person recently hospitalised because of it and another whose important operation had to be postponed because they tested positive for it whilst in hospital.

It's still out there and affecting people's day to day lives but since the vaccinations have helped reduce the chances of dying we just have to carry on really.

BenCoopersSupportWren · 13/04/2023 18:40

Ish. My DH is CEV (although not immunosuppressed) so I’m guided by him, but since the virus mutated to become less deadly he’s much happier to live more of a normal life, no longer tests/wears a mask etc other than for hospital appointments (and that’s mostly because the nature of his health conditions means he’s in waiting rooms with other equally or even more vulnerable people so does so for their sake). The only thing he’s not comfortable getting back to doing is going to the cinema or theatre, as while he’s comparatively relaxed about crowds outdoors or where you’re passing by people fairly quickly - in a busy shop or similar - or being in a restaurant where there’s a bit of distance between tables, he’s not keen on the idea of spending hours sitting right next to the same people in the same place with questionable airflow. So most of the time it doesn’t really crop up beyond a mention that So-and-so in our social circle has Covid.

Well.no.at the time far more people were dying of covid, thankfully we now have vaccines so.it is just another illness ,I had covid, last year and felt rough, for may be five days ,and was then fine but that doesn't mean other peop!e were not badly affected by it.
