Does anyone think about Covid anymore?

Feels like measures have sort of.. disappeared. Virtually no precautions whatsoever anywhere these days , not even light measures

My CEV mum doesn’t even mention it or bother with a mask anymore.

It’s like it’s gone away but obviously it has not.

No, I don't think about it. I don't test and I'd carry on as normal if I had a cold.

Capitulatingpanda · 13/04/2023 19:07

I have to test weekly (or if symptomatic) for work. That's pretty much the only time I think about it.

Shininghope · 13/04/2023 19:08

Covid, the lockdown and all associated precautions had a huge impact on me personally and permeate every aspect of my current life. I think about the impact daily but not about covid itself.

Maple2023 · 13/04/2023 19:09

Yes as immunocompromised (I'm neutropenic)
Still wear a mask if a place is busy and don't eat out indoors, waiting for the warmer weather!

WestwardHo1 · 13/04/2023 19:11

No except to be shocked that the whole thing happened like it did and the way we were played. Everyone I know feels the same - a kind of dull, incredulous anger.

Jonei · 13/04/2023 19:11

No, apart from the governments response to it, and the state of the country now.

CreationNat1on · 13/04/2023 19:11

I m just recovering from it, my head was soooo sore. OMG, the pain, felt like everything inside my head swelled up.

I now have a collusal and painful coldsore, which could bd due to covid, peri, period, combination of everything.

I didn't care about it before, I do now, would prefer to avoid a repeat

Yes.

Dymaxion · 13/04/2023 19:13

I am still amazed we were so compliant, and did as we were told

We didn't even lockdown as harshly as they did in many other countries, including those in Europe.

From a sociological point of view it is absolutely fascinating how they managed to achieve it so quickly and thoroughly, not just here but worldwide, I would love to have insight into all the where's and why's and how's.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 13/04/2023 19:15

Kind of . I am so much more aware of people coughing and sneezing near to me now than I would have been 3 years ago and I am more aware of hygiene in terms of using hand gel if I'm out (although I've always been a bit obsessive with hand washing). I also test if I am feeling unwell as I quite like illness to have a name - and whereas I would just warn anyone I was meeting that I had a cold, I would automatically cancel if it was Covid .

That said - the fact that it's still there doesn't change my life in terms of where I go, what I do.

It would be hard to forget about it on MN anyway as there is a similar thread to this every week or so.

Well I still think about it every sodding day, as I have long Covid fatigue, and have been buggered by it for the last three years!

I have life long effects on my sinuses, loss of smell on a regular basis from a virus I had nearly 10 years ago.

I dont spend time thinking about that everyday.

Popplebop · 13/04/2023 19:19

I don’t worry about it on a day to day basis but I do know that I do not want repeat infections of covid if I can help it (have had 2 bouts of confirmed covid). I am an NHS worker and the implications on the immune system are varied and we see many people presenting with ie eye problems and alopecia post-covid. The discussions around long term effects are ongoing in clinical groups.

phoneissue · 13/04/2023 19:20

I should be so lucky! It’s left me barely able to work, socialise, do housework etc.

I’d give just about anything to be able to go for a simple walk to the shops.

solidarity @Babdoc 2+ years and counting.

Babdoc · 13/04/2023 19:22

bellac11, lucky you - perhaps you have the luxury of not having to plan all your activities on the basis of how many days you will be stuck on the sofa afterwards trying to recover?
It has taken me three years to drag my exercise tolerance up from gasping at 100 yards, to being able to manage about three miles walking if I accept three days being punished with fatigue, cough and breathlessness for it.

washrinse · 13/04/2023 19:23

One of my DC (otherwise very healthy) was really ill with it. So yes I do still think about it every time someone in the family gets a bug - oh I bloody hope that’s not covid - none of us actually have ever been as severely affected by an illness as he was by covid.

mamabear715 · 13/04/2023 19:24

I do think about it. Usually if I'm in a crowded place I'll still wear a mask. It's MY health, right?

TheWorldisGoingMad · 13/04/2023 19:27

Nope! Definitely has not gone away, just because we are no longer testing like crazy. I know 5 people currently with covid and I only have a very small circle of friends. If anything, it's as rife now as it was at the height of the pandemic.

What strain exactly... who knows.

I am the same. I just roll my eyes if I hear someone talk about it now. I won't waste another second of my life on it.

DeeCeeCherry · 13/04/2023 19:28

Not really. I wear a mask when using public transport due to numbers of people coughing open mouthed, shouting on phone etc, it grinds my gears. But im thinking about that specifically, not Covid. I know someone who has Long Covid and is doing very badly. I dont know much about it and Im taken aback at her suffering. All that huge fuss about vaccines, pandemic, and now its just who cares? I never thought the world should have shut down over another flu strain tho. Whole thing is just weird.

IhearyouClemFandango · 13/04/2023 19:28

I see a few people in masks. DH had it for the second time last week and was noticeably the 'illest' I have known him, but is ok this week bar tiredness. My parents had it for the first time a month or so ago, mum still has a few issues

Anothnamechang · 13/04/2023 19:28

I’m currently still suffering from my 4th bout of Covid. I have been vaccinated. It’s been absolutely horrific and from the 2nd time my lungs haven’t quite recovered.

13Bastards · 13/04/2023 19:29

I didn't until I caught it last week and spent 3 days in my bed, was so much worse this time around. I've also given it to 4 people (that I know of) so feeling shite about that as one is 80.

Growlybear83 · 13/04/2023 19:32

My local hospital is still taking Covid seriously. I had a minor surgical procedure three weeks ago and had to isolate for three days beforehand and take a covid test for the three days and one on the day of the surgery. My husband was also asked to isolate as far as possible and to take tests too. I had to show the confirmation on my phone that I'd reported negative tests on the three days beforehand and show the test I'd taken that morning when I was admitted. I was also given a big bottle of Hibiscrub which I had to use instead of my usual shower gel and shampoo for three days beforehand. When I arrived at the ward, I was asked to remove my mask and put on a new one that the nurse provided. All the staff were wearing masks and mine was only removed when I got to the operating theatre. I was given a new one when they took me back to the ward from recovery. I was quite surprised by the precautions but I found it very reassuring.

My mother in law is in her nineties and fairly vulnerable so we both still test on a regular basis anyway.

MarshaBradyo · 13/04/2023 19:33

No I don’t and thinking back now is odd

Although I expected it would completely drop off the radar when comms weren’t needed anymore, so I’m not surprised.

Still think the approach wasn’t right though when it does come up (which is only on here tbh)

tobee · 13/04/2023 19:34

I think about it in a "thank god we're not restricting now". Dh is immunosuppressed but fortunately had a vaccine response. He'll likely be getting his spring booster soon. We were very careful and pretty much locked down for so much longer than many.

But we all got it 1st time last autumn, all mildly. So while it's not gone away, it's like any other similar type of illness now which is what I hoped it would become soon.

I know there are plenty of people still worrying who are more vulnerable.
