Does anyone actually enjoy eating these?

Very trivial but I am curious. I just ordered a falafel from Leon. It was completely ruined by being fully of whole cumin and fenugreek seeds. The texture is so off putting and the flavour is just overwhelming…

AIBU, do people actually like having whole spice seeds in their food?

Falafel is awesome. Great big seeds with stupidly overpowering flavour are not. The main culprit for that in my life is M&S vegcurry.

RoyGBivisacolorfulman · 13/04/2023 13:45

I love it. Don't recall massive seeds in it though.

Madamecastafiore · 13/04/2023 13:50

You can get amazing falafel mix for about a quid in the supermarket, cheap and healthy (if you bake it rather than fry as box suggests).

Iimp · 13/04/2023 13:53

Because I am sad I’ve just picked apart one of the falafels. Seriously, so many spice seeds I feel like a bird! Do people enjoy eating these things whole?

wtf? that is bizarre

alabamathunderpussy · 13/04/2023 13:55

Thats crazy. Surely they are meant to be toasted/ground etc. Looks like they have just dropped a handful in

SirenSays · 13/04/2023 13:55

Yuck so many it looks like the lid popped off the jar

evtheria · 13/04/2023 13:56

I would not enjoy that at all. I don't eat falafel often, but enjoy the wraps from Go Falafel, absolute HEAVEN, full of soft warm falafel and about ten other things....

xogossipgirlxo · 13/04/2023 13:56

Ugh it's weird. I'd try falafel somewhere else.

Iimp · 13/04/2023 13:58

Don’t get me wrong. I love falafel and I love spicy food. Just not whole spices like this.

That looks wrong! I have loads of falafel from different places as it’s one of my favourite foods and I’ve never had one like that!!

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 13/04/2023 14:02

I hate finding a cardamom seed in my gob.

Ankleblisters · 13/04/2023 14:04

That does not look right. I'd be asking the staff if its meant to be like that/complaining.

AlisonDonut · 13/04/2023 14:05

Wrong. Can you take it back?

Maple2023 · 13/04/2023 14:08

I love them, but not like that! Would be worried about breaking a tooth

Iimp · 13/04/2023 14:13

Glad the general census seems to find it weird. Cannot go back today but I’m going to drop them a message on social media to figure out if this is what it’s meant to be like.

Out of curiosity, I checked their recipe online - not sure it's the exact same menu item, or current, but this one has no seeds at all, only pine nuts: https://leon.co/presents/read/vegan-falafel-wrap/

I sometimes use whole fried fenugreek seeds in rice dishes, but nowhere near that many. I'd hate them in a sandwich/wrap where I can't see them.

pigsDOfly · 13/04/2023 14:35

Eaten quite a lot of falafel over the year, much of it in the Middle East, and have never come across seeds like.

Sound inedible and nasty.

MaroonCow · 13/04/2023 14:35

No, that's bad.

ItsCalledAConversation · 13/04/2023 14:37

Looks like a mistake in the kitchen.

I love whole spices judiciously used - caraway seeds turn homemade coleslaw into something heavenly!

Notegoat · 13/04/2023 14:37

They look like fennel seeds. I like those but that’s a lot

I love falafel & that is not falafel ☹

I feel cheated on your behalf OP!

Jellycats4life · 13/04/2023 14:40

Something has gone wrong there. It’s definitely worth complaining to them.

BillyDeanisnotmylover · 13/04/2023 14:58

Whoops, someone forgot to grind the spices.

Timeforabiscuit · 13/04/2023 15:07

Eating that would have been a feat of endurance 😞
