Bruising on child legs with no explanation

I’m really worried about my daughters legs they have bruising on them. I am of course going to call my GP in the morning but right now I’m going crazy googling and finding all sorts of diseases it could be a sign of. Please tell me if you’ve experienced similar with your kids please. She has been with me all week so no chance of anyone doing this to her. She’s doesn’t remember how it happened and it doesn’t hurt when I touch it. What could be the cause?

How old is she?

TheWorldsGoneMadAndSoHaveI · 10/04/2023 23:14

Is it both legs in same area?

worriedMum1123 · 10/04/2023 23:14

7 years old

I’m so worried. I feel sick at the thought of anything happening to her.

She's likely just walked into or knocked her legs into something at the same time by the looks of it, I have brusies everywhere and can hardly remember when they happened, I wouldn't worry unless she has a temp and has been unwell.

Katia2511 · 10/04/2023 23:16

Is it possible that she bruises easily? My 6 year old always has bruises on his legs, he has very sensitive skin and bruises very easily, he never knows when he's done it...

youshouldnthaveasked · 10/04/2023 23:17

is there anything in your house that height she could potentially knocking against? I bruise easily and kept on getting bruises upper shin height which I realised was my new bench. I usually don’t feel it as a wound as such as I bruise so easily

splilt · 10/04/2023 23:17

The GP?

Surely she had just banged her legs on something

Nousernamesleftatall · 10/04/2023 23:17

The second picture looks like a bump. What type of dining chairs do you have?

cestlavielife · 10/04/2023 23:18

She s knocked them on a low table or something . Kids knoc k into things. Why do you think ot is something else?

blebbleb · 10/04/2023 23:18

She probably just knocked her legs on something. I don't think you need to see a GP. Kids are always bashing and knocking themselves.

Merryoldgoat · 10/04/2023 23:18

If she is otherwise healthy, active and well I would assume normal bruises from general bumps.

Shins are often covered in bruises at that age. My 5yo is covered in his shins.

TheWorldsGoneMadAndSoHaveI · 10/04/2023 23:18

Reason i ask.. i was getting bruising at top of legs..took me longer than it should of to realise that i was hitting them on the corner of my bedside cabinet
What I am saying is, shes probably doing an activity (such as trampolining) or bashing her legs on something and not realising she is

FrogsWormsandButterflies · 10/04/2023 23:19

They’re normal bruises, my kids (And me!) always have bruised shins and I rarely remember what I’ve bumped into

barelyfunctional · 10/04/2023 23:19

Shins tend to bruise easily, I guess it’s because they’ve got no cushioning although might be wrong. My kids always have bruised shins just from playing and climbing around and I often have bruised shins myself just from general life. Is she particularly active?

Tactica · 10/04/2023 23:20

My DC have always had bruise-y legs, often the same as those photos, always on the skins.

Ilovetea42 · 10/04/2023 23:20

If she's constantly bruising a lot and is unexplained then it would do no harm to get a check up from the gp. But if the bruising is consistent in size and location eg same level on both shins then it seems like she's walked into something or hit it with a bike pedal etc. Just keep an eye but if she's tired/lethergic/ losing weight etc then you'd be right to see gp.

worriedMum1123 · 10/04/2023 23:21

There’s no table here at the moment. No coffee or dining table as we’ve just moved in. Only bed in her room, sofa in lounge.

I'm worried because it might be some kind of auto-immune disorder or lukemia (sorry spelling). I know someone in DH’s extended family who kept getting unexplained bruises. Also it’s not purple as you can see in pictures it’s red - could this mean bleeding under the skin.

My eldest's legs were almost always like that. She was an active kid and bruised easily.
Thos aren't random blood condition bruises. You can see the point of impact with the bruising around it.

TheVolturi · 10/04/2023 23:22

It's normal for under 10s to have bruised shins. They're 100mph!

TomeTome · 10/04/2023 23:23

Looks like the edge of a bed or step on a car bruise.

worriedMum1123 · 10/04/2023 23:23

Thank you everyone! Yes I’m sure it’s nothing but the fact that it doesn’t hurt when I touch it is that to be worried about? Surely a bruise would be sore?

Careerdilemma · 10/04/2023 23:24

Happens to me all the time and I rarely remember how I did them, and my son is the same. Took me over a year to realise that a recurrent bruise on the back of my calf was from knocking it on a knob on my desk chair.

VioletPickles · 10/04/2023 23:24

Not sure if anyone here can reassure you. Perhaps GP in the morning?
