Death by Chocolate-please help!

A dramatic title, I know 😁 I've just been googling and can't find it but know someone on here will be able to help.

In the 90s there was a frozen dessert called Death by Chocolate. Tesco sold it. I want to find an image of it to show my ds but can't find it anywhere.

I never ate it as it wasn't vegetarian but I used to buy it for ds's dad.

While I'm here does anyone remember the individual frozen desserts that were sold in pairs-one was a Mississippi mud pie. The other might have been chocolate fudge cake. They defrosted in the microwave in seconds. The co-op sold them.

Does no-one remember?

Well this is very disappointing! It shall forever remain a thing of the nineties/noughties that I shall never see again

I think it was a chocolate biscuit base with chocolate moose on top they sold it in the restaurant where I worked

buttercupcake · 12/04/2023 17:50

I think I remember it!

Was it by Sarah Lee?

MRex · 12/04/2023 17:51

No idea, sorry! Try reddit?

Lilyhatesjaz · 12/04/2023 17:52

If you Google death by chocolate cake
You get recipes for it

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 12/04/2023 17:53

A restaurant near me used to do an amazing DBC. You could feel your arteries furring up as you ate, but it was absolutely worth it. It was chocolate biscuit base, then chocolate mousse and I think the top was a ganache . Or the other way round. It was heaven.
Sadly the restaurant is long gone (this must have been 30 years ago) but I cam still remember that dessert!

I think I remember it!

Was it by Sarah Lee?

I remember a Sara Lee one that was called something like death by chocolate. It came in a white round plastic thing and was an absolute bugger to get it out nicely onto a plate or cut the first slice out.

stealthninjamum · 12/04/2023 17:54

I remember it, I used to go to a burger restaurant in the 80s and my mum always had it - I had a knickerbocker glory. Then I remember being so excited when I saw it in a supermarket.

WhatAlmondmagnum · 12/04/2023 17:55

I remember them ! Did they come in. Pack of 2?!!

I was given one and a glass of lemonade for breakfast one morning aged 13 after I’d walked in on dm and her ‘friend’ the night before (he was married) I think it was meant to buy my silence 😂😂

Comfies · 12/04/2023 17:56

I definitely remember it from restaurants in the 80s and 90s but can't remember exactly what it involved

thenightsky · 12/04/2023 17:57

Oh yes... I do remember death by chocolate and Mississippi Mud Pie too. MMP was a mix of chocolate mousse and caramel mousse. I loved them both.

Thriwit · 12/04/2023 17:57

This is so weird, I was talking to DH about this just last night!
I absolutely remember a commercial cake called death by chocolate. I’ve been Googling but can’t find any images of it though 😔

WhatAlmondmagnum · 12/04/2023 17:58

I used to love the lemon mirage ice creams too I think they were 93/94/95 as well ?

AutisticLegoLover · 12/04/2023 18:00

Aha! Thank you for the replies. It's the brands I want to know so I can Google for pictures. I don't want recipes although I might make it I suppose one day. I want to be able to see the ones I used to buy. It may well have been Sara Lee. Bought from Tesco freezer section. My ex used to eat a whole one to himself.

I used to get the individual ones from Tesco!! I know exactly what you mean, yes they came in packs of 2. I don’t think they were Sara Lee, I think they were own brand. I will have a look.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 12/04/2023 18:10

The Sara Lee one was a double chocolate gateaux, absolutely fantastic is microwaved for 15 seconds so the chocolate cream/icing stuff melted into a sauce over warm chocolate cake.

It was part of our regular Saturday afternoon buffet rotation. Either gateaux, strawberry cheesecake, raspberry trifle or vienetta.

3luckystars · 12/04/2023 18:12

I remember them and restaurants used to have them on the menu too.

Georgyporky · 12/04/2023 18:19

I had it in a pub on holiday in the New Forest c. 1977 .
I seem to recall it was cake, mousse & ganache - gorgeous.

I remember a local coming in and demanding a refund.
He'd bought it for his wife & it hadn't worked !!

TheChosenTwo · 12/04/2023 18:20

@WhatAlmondmagnum that’s a funny story! Blackmail by chocolate 😂

I love this! Did it work, or did you take out an ad in the local paper?

I sat down that morning expecting my usual toast or cereal and was presented with lemonade and a chocolate dessert I remember thinking ‘well this isn’t right’ but I love chocolate so I ate it, db woke up and came down and I promptly told him what had happened the night before and dm just looked like she was going to cry. Her ‘friend’ had a wife and family living a few hours drive away and I think I had a bit of a teenage strop about morals to her and gave her a lecture ! (He never came back and I never had death by chocolate again)!!!

I once ordered Death by Chocolate at a local pub when they had it on their menu, the barman offered to beat me to death with a toblerone!
