Death by Chocolate-please help!

A dramatic title, I know 😁 I've just been googling and can't find it but know someone on here will be able to help.

In the 90s there was a frozen dessert called Death by Chocolate. Tesco sold it. I want to find an image of it to show my ds but can't find it anywhere.

I never ate it as it wasn't vegetarian but I used to buy it for ds's dad.

While I'm here does anyone remember the individual frozen desserts that were sold in pairs-one was a Mississippi mud pie. The other might have been chocolate fudge cake. They defrosted in the microwave in seconds. The co-op sold them.

I sat down that morning expecting my usual toast or cereal and was presented with lemonade and a chocolate dessert I remember thinking ‘well this isn’t right’ but I love chocolate so I ate it, db woke up and came down and I promptly told him what had happened the night before and dm just looked like she was going to cry. Her ‘friend’ had a wife and family living a few hours drive away and I think I had a bit of a teenage strop about morals to her and gave her a lecture ! (He never came back and I never had death by chocolate again)!!!

I’m impressed that you had the presence of mind to snaffle the luxurious breakfast, then rat her out to your brother and lecture her on her morals as you digested…

Serve her a giant DBC next time you see her. Would she remember?

I once ordered Death by Chocolate at a local pub when they had it on their menu, the barman offered to beat me to death with a toblerone!

Hilarious! 🤣🤣

I remember something called Death by Chocolate in the freezer section of our local co-op, I think in the 80s. Never had it though. I think I recall the box being red.

Wittow · 12/04/2023 19:18

Sara Lee definitely. My parents had a hotel and used to serve it for 75p - restaurant dessert prices in the 80's 😏

anunlikelyseahorse · 12/04/2023 19:20

I used to make it, it was very popular in the early 90s but it used raw egg...possibly why it caused death! Easy to make and utterly delicious!

Raw egg is dangerous?? I never knew. My mum aways used to whisk up a raw egg in milk to make a lovely creamy nutritious milkshake for suppers. Dash of vanilla essence. Mmmm. I used to do the same for my kids too.

They definitely sold it in Iceland in the mid-90s. I specifically remember choosing it for my 14th birthday!

Xarrie · 12/04/2023 21:36

Deep pan pizza co used to sell it in their restaurants. Heated up with cream or ice cream.

Maestoso · 12/04/2023 21:36

Grasshopper pie was another. I loved that but haven't seen it for decades.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 12/04/2023 21:36

I remembers an absolutely gorgeous dessert from either Iceland or a local freezer shop called Granellies - not sure - called Black Bottom Pie

Been pining for years for that

Anyone remember it?

Clevs · 12/04/2023 21:40

I remember them! I think they had a chocolate crumb base, a layer of chocolate mousse then a layer of chocolate ganache with chocolate curls on top. I also think they came with a clear plastic 'wrap' around the edge of them to help them hold their shape (but may be imagining that bit).

GoodVibesHere · 12/04/2023 21:46

There was also a chocolate bombe at around that time, might've been a white chocolate bombe I think.

Augend23 · 12/04/2023 21:58

So I wonder if this is the new version of it? It looks like quite a lot of the descriptions but the name is wrong.

Raw egg is only dangerous in the unlikely event it is contaminated with salmonella.

LightSpeeds · 28/10/2023 18:55

I remember it really well. It was amazing (but you couldn't smile afterwards because it got on your teeth and made them black) 😂

We used to have it as a treat. I could never find a picture of it either...
