Difference between Instagram and Facebook?

girlfriend44 · 09/04/2023 20:51

How many people are on both, What's the difference etc?
Can you make a post on Instagram without a photograph/s?

OP posts:
BernadetteIsMySister · 09/04/2023 20:52

No you need an image, even if it's of text.

Pahpahpotato · 09/04/2023 20:52

That’s the main difference really, it was always the case that Instagram was purely photo (and video) based whereas Facebook was more of a range. They’re becoming more and more similar now fo course.

dottypotter · 09/04/2023 21:17

Which is most popular is it Facebook?

Iwrotethelyricstoaxlf · 09/04/2023 21:19

I can work FB. Can’t do bugger all on insta (apparently that’s the correct term)

shadowchancesassy · 09/04/2023 21:22

I have both and use them both differently. I post on insta but it's mostly on stories. I use fb for market place and groups. I despise social media and often have long breaks from both of them.

Micefeelpain · 09/04/2023 21:36

Are these my feet?

TakeMyStrongHand · 09/04/2023 21:47

Instagram is a bit of a happier place. No reading check ins at hospital or long winded rants about some bullshit where they are just mugging themselves off.

I mostly follow meme accounts on instagram so that may be why but I regularly LOL after a few minutes on instragram whereas I usually just role my eyes at Facebook.

popandchoc · 09/04/2023 21:52

Much prefer Instagram . Not full of people resharing lost cat posts .
also enjoy stories on Instagram but people don’t use them much on Facebook .

Soonthen · 09/04/2023 22:04

Instagram = look at my pretty shit
facebook = my life is not shit
twitter = I’ll fight you

PuppyMonkey · 09/04/2023 22:04

You can link both so your posts go on both platforms I think.

i know I’m in the minority but I find Instagram very very dull.

i like the shite naff posts on FB.Blush

BlueyDragon · 09/04/2023 22:05

According to DD and DNeice, “Facebook is for old people”

colourmebladd · 09/04/2023 22:06

Instagram you can properly make private, that’s what I like about it. I like photo sharing but I like that I can keep it among friends.

humancalculator · 09/04/2023 22:06

No one under 30 (40?) is on Facebook.

MyMumIsOnMN · 09/04/2023 22:14

Anything else you want us to Google for you?

Good summary, tbf

tinyblackcat · 09/04/2023 22:35

Instagram is more pleasant but FB lets you have different privacy settings on different posts

I much prefer instagram for privacy. I've set everything as private as I can on fb but if I share a public post, it can still be seen so anyone looking can get a reasonable view of me. Instagram is completely locked down and only people I accept can see. Wonderful.

Throwaway0323 · 10/04/2023 08:56

My teens tell me facebook is for old people.

My older teen is on insta and the younger one is on tik tok.

KimberleyClark · 10/04/2023 09:02

I’.m on Instagram but rarely post. I’d like to be able to post more than one picture at a time but that seems really complicated - it’s much easier on Facebook.

Xrays · 10/04/2023 09:03

I am on both but I find Instagram just like one big advert nowadays. Hate it. Facebook is more my thing - I am in a lot of health related groups and enjoy it for that.

You can do exactly the same on Facebook. I only have a few friends on Facebook and all my posts (not that I post much to be fair!) are all set to private.

NetZeroZealot · 10/04/2023 09:07

I'm on both.

Much prefer instagram, and rarely use FB nowadays. Its power is waning and it's a much older demographic.

I get better ads on Insta.

Some people post the same shit on both platforms - there is a button which lets you do this - which really annoys me as I think you should tailor your content to the medium.

It's much easier to share 3rd party stuff on FB so I use it mostly for that. I use Insta for my own photos.

NetZeroZealot · 10/04/2023 09:07

Also I find FB groups quite useful.

RocketIceLollie · 10/04/2023 09:12

Yeah Instagram is photo orientated really.

I prefer Instagram. I really didn't like how everyone on your friends list could see you commenting on other posts on Facebook plus it just seems to be full of adverts and clickbait news. Instagram is more focused on what you choose to follow and more discreet how you interact.

crossstitchingnana · 10/04/2023 09:16

I'm on both but look at Instagram about once a month. It bores me. It's like "look at this beach" or "look at my cake I made". It's so dull. Only have it because my kids are on it.

I am on FB 1-3 times a day, and yes I am in my 50s.
