How many people are on both, What's the difference etc?
Can you make a post on Instagram without a photograph/s?

Instagram = look at my pretty shit
facebook = my life is not shit
twitter = I’ll fight you

That's exquisite. Grin

I’.m on Instagram but rarely post. I’d like to be able to post more than one picture at a time but that seems really complicated - it’s much easier on Facebook.

When you go to New Post, just above your photos to select from there are two icons: a camera and a another which is multiple squares overlapped. Click that and you can select multiple pictures for your post.

I have both and use them both differently. I post on insta but it's mostly on stories. I use fb for market place and groups. I despise social media and often have long breaks from both of them.

🤣 “despise” social media? Not that much, hey?!

PrettyMaybug · 10/04/2023 09:44

As quite a few people have said, Facebook is generally mostly for the over 40s now. I have got around 90 people on my facebook, and around 40 of them are under 35... Work colleagues, ex work colleagues, my adult children, their friends in their 20s and any 30s, and my friends adult children.

I think I can count on the fingers of one hand the amount of posts that the under 35s have put on Facebook in the last two or three years. Over 40s seem to live on there, and yeah, as that amusing 3 line quote I quoted said - people on facebook want to tell you their life is not shit, indeed it is amazing. It's pretty much all over 40s who post a lot, and they all have great lives, and amazing, clever children, and a wonderful relationship with their spouse/partner. Every single thing they do is documented, from a costa with their mate, to seeing their amazing granny, or noo noo as the kids call her. 😆

As people have said on here, younger folk tend to use Instagram a lot more. As the previous poster said before me, I actually find Instagram really boring. It's just a load of pictures, and many are not of people... Just scenes and stuff... VERY few instagram accounts interest me. I only have one because a few young adults I know have it -including my DC, and I like to see their photos.

Instagram is full of fairly normal girls putting loads of filters on and tons of make up, making themselves look completely different... They thrive off the 'likes' and the 'favourites' and the positive comments, and their worst nightmare is people not noticing or commenting on - and liking their pics!

My daughter's fiancé has got a cousin who is on Instagram, and she looked like actually quite a pretty girl, but I was shocked when I saw her. She was actually 4 or 5 stone heavier than she looked on her pictures and quite plain. I know that sounds catty, but I'm just stating a fact. I don't know how she managed to do it. She looked like a different person.

But yeah, it doesn't really do you any favours making yourself look completely different and much, much better on your online photographs! Shock

I have a facebook account, but only post on it maybe once a month, and will often post a few photos.. I only look at it once or twice a week for a couple of minutes (to see if there's any messages from anyone...) CBA with seeing people fake and filtered lives to be honest. I keep facebook open as I have family and friends abroad, and it's a good, quick way to stay in touch, and contact people.

Only ever posted about a dozen pics on Instagram. In 3 years.

IronBan · 10/04/2023 09:51

No one young uses FB, that’s it really.

I use FB purely because I belong to some hiking groups and yep I’m older. I’m quite glad social media didn’t exist when I was young as it just encourages navel gazing twattery.

No one under 30 (40?) is on Facebook.

60 perhaps.

A place where boomers post false nostalgia, racism and fearful posts about a man with eyebrows seen parking a white van in the village.

Disgustingly ageist post.

megletthesecond · 10/04/2023 09:59

Instagram is dull IMO. No logical newsfeed. Not enough words. I have zero interest in spending seconds watching a video. Too artifical and positive.
Facebook ruined since they stopped putting the mewsfeed in order.

Its no more complicated than FB, you can't post as many but you still just click on them to select

I agree with a pp. Disgusting post. Hmm

Despite your rude comment about BOOMERS, and the stupid and inaccurate comment about them all being racist Hmm LOADS of people in their 40s use facebook, and their 50s. It is NOT just 'over 60s.'

The 40 and 50 somethings use it as well.. (And even a few in their late 30s...) Often to brag about Arran and Jaxon getting the headmasters award this week for being able to spell 10 three letter words correctly, or for getting 100% attendance that week! OR to brag about what a great night out they had with 'the girls' on Friday..... etc etc.

Like fuck is it just 'boomers...; 🙄 And I can't believe people still use this lame and pathetic 'insult' to get at the over 60s... Grow up.

(NOT a Boomer by the way. Proud Gen X-er here!)

Oh - loads of people who are NOT 'boomers' are racist too. But I am sure you know that. Wink

I use Instagram to follow businesses and other interesting topics, for example food and clothes/styling inspiration. I'm not following or followed by anyone I know RL, it's just for me. Facebook I use for groups and for following people I know. I rarely post on my own page but do participate in lots of conversations in the (closed/private) groups I'm in.

SlashBeef · 10/04/2023 10:16

My Facebook had been deactivated for a while now. The only reason I haven't fully deleted it is because of my photos being on there. Need to go through and make sure I have them all backed up and then get rid.
I prefer TikTok and Instagram. Twitter is a bit of a dumpster fire.

Mumsnet - shit happens.

AHugeTinyMistake · 10/04/2023 10:22

I stopped using Facebook over lockdown when every other post was someone ranting or judging or moaning. Life was difficult enough without adding to it on socials. I unfollowed all my friends and now only use it for events and a couple of work related groups.

Had an IG account for a while but hadn't used it much until then - I liked looking at nice pictures 😳carried on using it as the ratio of nice things to ill informed political posts is much better. The ads are better targeted as well I think 😂

I don't know anyone young who uses FB now, it's their mums and GPs.

2023Hope · 10/04/2023 10:27

TakeMyStrongHand · 09/04/2023 21:47

Instagram is a bit of a happier place. No reading check ins at hospital or long winded rants about some bullshit where they are just mugging themselves off.

I mostly follow meme accounts on instagram so that may be why but I regularly LOL after a few minutes on instragram whereas I usually just role my eyes at Facebook.

Same!

shivawn · 10/04/2023 10:31

Facebook is a bit depressing, lots of angry/stupid people spreading hate and negativity. Avoid the comment section on any news articles or public pages at all costs.

KimberleyClark · 10/04/2023 09:02

When you add a picture on Insta, it shows your gallery, you literally press each photo you want to add, that's all you need to do

AbreathofFrenchair · 10/04/2023 10:47

Dont really bother with my Facebook. It got to depressing over lockdown whenever all the local pages had crazy posters who were taking pics of people on their second or third walk of the day or people who were driving down the road when advice was not to travel, without knowing anything about anyones circumstances, as well as someone who frequently commented that they had seen non essential items in peoples baskets or noticed not everyone in the street clapped for the NHS

I love Insta though. I have 3 accounts on there, 1 personal, 1 book and 1 jigsaw one and I've made some lovely friends and got some lovely freebies but it's hard maintaining them!

shadowchancesassy · 10/04/2023 10:48

@Testina yes hence having breaks. Unfortunately I need it for my business.

frustratedtenant · 10/04/2023 10:57

I find facebook is great for keeping up with people eg old friends, and for groups. Yes, its mostly older people (over 30/40) but since I am in my 40s that is not a negative. I guess if you are in your 20s you might want to go on insta to be with people your age.

It's a bit sad though that social media is becoming age segregated.

I use instagram for work and find it tedious and a bit narcissistic. I don't really browse it in the way I do on facebook.

girlfriend44 · 10/04/2023 11:21

I find the layout better on FB.

I find Instagram boring . There is not much interaction with friends. It’s just mainly for sharing photos without all the comments, of course you can still comment but doesn’t have the same feel as Facebook. I guess it’s what you prefer or get use too .
