Should the holiday park of let us know?

We booked a caravan for 3 nights, it’s only 15 minutes from home but we and the kids love it. We’ve been several times.

Its really small and secure, so the kids take their bikes and off they go. They make friends, cycle round, hang out at the park and games room. We basically see them for food and drinks so it’s a break for hubby and I, we get to read, play cards. Let me reiterate though how small this caravan park is, we don’t neglect the kids. We often walk round the park and see what they are up to (football mostly on the field).

So, we get there yesterday to find, apart from the older couples that own caravans and a family with very young children, we are the only ones there. They had to make the decision to cancel all of their camping/touring caravans due to the ground being so wet. Such a shame seeing how lovely the weather is now.
So, kids are bored out of their mind as there’s no one to play with, and we can’t entertain them that much as there isn’t a lot to do there if your not a kid.
We decided to come home after 1 night. The guy on reception was understanding of the situation and apologised we hadn’t had the experience we normally have.
Manager is away until next week.
AIBU to call next week and ask for a refund as the people they’d cancelled had got?
Im torn, I’m not sure if I should or not so would like other peoples perspective.
Our holiday could go ahead because of the recent rain as we were in a caravan, but the holiday experience was massively impacted?

YABVVVU Confused

You could still have taken your kids to the play area and games room. Go home and get some outdoor games, get creative with ideas for play. It is very early in the season to expect many campers anyway.

GloryBees · 08/04/2023 17:14

Wow! Maybe spend some time with your kids not just sitting their playing cards. You are so entitled!!!

00100001 · 08/04/2023 17:16

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Mistymoonsinastarrysky · 08/04/2023 17:17

You cannot be serious!
If you are then I’d want a refund when there are groups of noisy kids running around but I expect peace and quiet!

lapstyr · 08/04/2023 17:17

This can't be true

SquidwardBound · 08/04/2023 17:18

I don’t even understand what you think they should have let you know.

The site is presumably not advertising other site users’ children as an attraction/facility. Because that would be weird.

I’s always going to be possible that the other people who happen to have booked to use it at the same time as you might not have children of a suitable age and who think the goal of the holiday is for the kids to find other people’s children to entertain them.

SunshineGeorgie · 08/04/2023 17:19

This has GOT to be a wind up!!!

purplecorkheart · 08/04/2023 17:19

This has to be a reverse and my sympathies are with you park owner.

GoodChat · 08/04/2023 17:19

Do the terms and conditions guarantee similar aged children to entertain yours?

unclebuck · 08/04/2023 17:20

Yeah but don't ask, demand. Call them out. Film it for TikTok and leave a foul review on Tripadvisor as well.
Ffs I feel so so sorry for anyone working in hospitality these days.

SquidwardBound · 08/04/2023 17:20

I also don’t understand why you can’t entertain your own children. Just go for a bloody walk with them or something.

I can’t believe you raised this with the site staff. They will be laughing about the ridiculous people in bay 14.

JMSA · 08/04/2023 17:22

This HAS to be a wind-up.

Crunchymum · 08/04/2023 16:53

You want a refund as there were no other kids to entertain your kids so you could have a break?

You're hilarious!!

I love you 🤣

B0g · 08/04/2023 17:22

Waiting for OP to try to backtrack and say that’s not what she meant and/or call us names, as it goes when someone makes a complete tit of themselves 😄
100% going in that right wing shitty newspaper isn’t it?

JMSA · 08/04/2023 17:24

As evidenced by the fact that the OP has disappeared Grin

Abyss23 · 08/04/2023 17:24

Am I the only person who wonders why anyone would want to stay in a caravan 15 minutes from home?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/04/2023 17:24

Bahahahahahaha

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 08/04/2023 17:25

ememem84 · 08/04/2023 17:25

This is hilarious.

PuttingDownRoots · 08/04/2023 17:25

We went camping last weekend. It was pretty much dead. Meant the children (we had 5 with us)could spend as long as they wanted on all the activities (and the bored staff encouraged the parents to have a go, which is why I leapt of a 20m high platform....)

thegrain · 08/04/2023 17:26

Do you not like your kids?

MyMumIsOnMN · 08/04/2023 17:26

Manager going off for Easter and leaving others to deal with any unhappy people (some might have not got the cancellation message), not a good manager.

The manager may have booked annual leave to spend time with his/her own family over Easter months in advance. The manager would never have been able to predict the weather over Easter and that it would be too wet for touring vehicles. You surely don’t expect the manager to cancel their leave because of a wet Easter? Dealing with cancellations due to wet weather is something the staff at a caravan park in the UK will be well used to.

I’m not sure it’s even suitable for a crap newspaper. All the readers would be thinking: this makes no sense.

Theres no way to be properly outraged because the complaint is so stupid and internally inconsistent.

5128gap · 08/04/2023 17:26

Agree with everyone else. You absolutely don't have the right to a refund and if you want to be regulars there I'd not insult them by asking.
I do feel the critical comments about you entertaining your own kids are harsh though. It's really not that simple. The children were expecting a certain type of experience (sounds very much like my childhood holidays) and hanging out with parents is hardly going to be an acceptable alternative to them. Its an added disadvantage being so close to home there probably isn't much out and about that's new to explore. So I get why it wouldn't really work.
