Should the holiday park of let us know?

We booked a caravan for 3 nights, it’s only 15 minutes from home but we and the kids love it. We’ve been several times.

Its really small and secure, so the kids take their bikes and off they go. They make friends, cycle round, hang out at the park and games room. We basically see them for food and drinks so it’s a break for hubby and I, we get to read, play cards. Let me reiterate though how small this caravan park is, we don’t neglect the kids. We often walk round the park and see what they are up to (football mostly on the field).

So, we get there yesterday to find, apart from the older couples that own caravans and a family with very young children, we are the only ones there. They had to make the decision to cancel all of their camping/touring caravans due to the ground being so wet. Such a shame seeing how lovely the weather is now.
So, kids are bored out of their mind as there’s no one to play with, and we can’t entertain them that much as there isn’t a lot to do there if your not a kid.
We decided to come home after 1 night. The guy on reception was understanding of the situation and apologised we hadn’t had the experience we normally have.
Manager is away until next week.
AIBU to call next week and ask for a refund as the people they’d cancelled had got?
Im torn, I’m not sure if I should or not so would like other peoples perspective.
Our holiday could go ahead because of the recent rain as we were in a caravan, but the holiday experience was massively impacted?

😂 i hope you do do it. You'll be the talk of the staff!

matis · 08/04/2023 17:01

So once you book they have to ensure they only book families with kids the right ages for yours to play with?

MyMumIsOnMN · 08/04/2023 17:02

This has to be a joke. Even if the grounds had been perfect and all the spaces had been occupied there’s no guarantee that they would have been occupied by people with children of a similar age range as your children, and even if they were there’s no guarantee that those children would have wanted to play with your children. They may have been the kind of people that use the campground as a base to sleep at and go off fishing, hiking, cycling, etc all day, very day.

GlassBunion · 08/04/2023 17:03

You've made this up, surely?

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 08/04/2023 17:03
  • Do you ask for a 50% refund when the other kids are slightly older and don’t kick the ball to yours often?🤣

This. With bells on

StaySpicy · 08/04/2023 17:03

So you were in a static caravan and they cancelled the bookings of tents and mobile caravans? Don't you feel bad for the campsite that they have lost revenue over the Easter weekend due to the weather? Don't you think asking for them to have to refund more money just because there weren't any children for your kids to play with is a tad unfair?!

Hellocatshome · 08/04/2023 17:04

we can’t entertain them that much as there isn’t a lot to do there if your not a kid. you said they play football on the field normally. So can neither you or DH manage to play football? Or any of the many other games you could play with children and a ball?

Oysterbabe · 08/04/2023 17:04

This post is batshit.

IhearyouClemFandango · 08/04/2023 17:04

Hilarious 😂

Lostinthesouth · 08/04/2023 17:05

Lol!

nofilteronme · 08/04/2023 17:05

I think if a holiday park called me to say they were going to be quiet because they'd had to cancel a load of bookings I'd find it really odd!

IhearyouClemFandango · 08/04/2023 17:05

Could you have not played with them? Whatever games they would have played? Gone to the games room, played cards etc etc?

CherryCokeFanatic · 08/04/2023 17:06

All I can imagine is that tiny caravan park from Happy Valley S1

MyMumIsOnMN · 08/04/2023 17:06

Take them to Butlins next time.

Whataretheodds · 08/04/2023 17:07

MrsDoylesDoily · 08/04/2023 17:00

(BTW it's "should the holiday park have let us know?" not "of")

Oh stop it FFS.

Next you'll be offering tutoring 🙄

My rates are very reasonable

LlynTegid · 08/04/2023 17:07

Seems inconsistent to cancel some but not all to me. Not because of your children, but because of the reason to cancel touring vehicles. Manager going off for Easter and leaving others to deal with any unhappy people (some might have not got the cancellation message), not a good manager.

I'd ask for a refund and make it clear that the receptionist was very kind and helpful.

DHsPoorBack · 08/04/2023 17:08

You can't be arsed to watch your kids, and want a refund because the park didn't let you know in advance, that it would not be populated with families for you to palm your kids off too Grin

I genuinely can't imagine people like you exist, and yet here you are.

Please do call up and ask for your refund, but only on the condition you post back on here, exactly how much of a tool you make if yourself what happens Grin

Haveallthesongsbeenwritten · 08/04/2023 17:08

“We booked a caravan for 3 nights, it’s only 15 minutes from home”
first I am not sure why but I wonder why booking three nights so close to home?!!! And yes, if there aren't any kids to entertain yours, just pack and go home. Doubt you’ll get a refund.

Powerof321 · 08/04/2023 17:10

This is a piss take right?

you’re being beyond unreasonable - try engaging with your kids!

Hellocatshome · 08/04/2023 17:10

Seems inconsistent to cancel some but not all to me.

Why would they cancel static caravan bookings that are already situated on their own hard standing?

They cancelled tourers because of the wet ground where they would have all got stuck in the mud and churned up all the grass with their cars etc.

TulipCat · 08/04/2023 17:10

I work in hospitality and am laughing at the notion that accommodation providers are also responsible for providing the right social mix of other guests. 😂

FlowersAndBonnets · 08/04/2023 17:11

This has got to be a joke. Entertain your own bloody kids.

anerki10 · 08/04/2023 17:11

You went home because between you and your husband you couldn't manage to entertain your own children?

If you and your husband want a break of your own, don't take the kids. Find someone to leave them with or hit up a resort with a kids club and babysitting services.

duvetcovereddissident · 08/04/2023 17:11

You got everything you booked and paid for, so no, you cant aske for a refund.

It happens, sometimes. We have ended up being alone on a camp site several times, when most other bookings had to be cancelled.

TheChippendenSpook · 08/04/2023 17:11

Your title doesn't make sense but yes you are being unreasonable to ask for a refund.
