Listening to Ladies and Gentlemen this morning while doing some admin on the laptop. I just love his voice, its heaven to listen to and i wish he was still alive, but happy with himself and his life.

Who's singing voice just does it for you?

George Michael and Morrissey. Beautiful singing voices. Shame about the untimely death of the former, and the politics of the latter.

Morrissey had broken my heart as I used to love him so much.

I can't listen to anything later than 'You are the quarry' as after that he really crossed a line.

Not a fan personally

SallySailor · 08/04/2023 13:25

I really can't see wher you get that from. Just love and sadness over someone dying far too young and over the struggles he had. Those struggles were well-known and subject of a film made by himself.

Not a fan BUT, he sang a song titled, 'I can't make you love me'. His voice, his range in that song I thought was phenomenal and deeply haunting. It's my all time favourite.

'I can't make you love me' is my favourite too. Fabulous voice.

That was a reply to waterlego

Thanks @SallySailor - I must have misunderstood. It was a couple of comments about it being a shame that GM couldn’t find happiness/peace and something about it being a shame he couldn’t see for himself how wonderful he was. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve misunderstood posts online. Apologies all.

I saw him live too on the Older tour and also agree he was up with the very best vocally. He was absolutely pitch perfect. Generally not my type of music but Older is the most perfect album about grief.

Tony Bennett

George Michael has for me, an 'effortless' singing voice. He just opened his mouth and it came out!
He made singing seem really easy.
Lovely.

LlynTegid · 08/04/2023 14:05

Agree about George Michael's voice even though not a lover of his music. For Morrissey it is the lyrics and the basslines not his voice to me that is special.

Thedogscollar · 08/04/2023 14:07

He was truly iconic. The only other singer/artist I'd put him alongside is Freddie.
We will probably never see his like again for pure talent and generosity of human kindness.

Same.

Perfect, gorgeous voice. Even better live. X

girlfriend44 · 08/04/2023 16:55

he was a good pop singer. He had a pop voice. Lots of people liked it.

BounceyB · 08/04/2023 17:19

I liked him as a duet. He did a great cover of As by Stevie Wonder. I found his solo stuff just a bit too intense to properly enjoy it.

ThePoshUns · 08/04/2023 17:20

I can't listen to A Different Corner without shedding a tear as it's so beautiful and I miss George . Gone far too soon.

RedKathy · 08/04/2023 17:23

I wish I'd seen George Michael on stage. I find his voice beautiful. I was uncharacteristically upset at his death ie the death of somebody I didn't even know. Never happened before or since.

Stygimoloch · 08/04/2023 17:25

Beautiful rich voice.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 08/04/2023 17:29

Kissing a fool is my absolute favourite, his voice is incredible and in the video he is at his height of physical perfection, so handsome.

SquashPenguin · 08/04/2023 17:32

I was so lucky to see him live, he was wonderful. I cried for days when he died.

Mittens1717 · 08/04/2023 17:33

Totally agree, a voice like velvet, doubt we will ever see the like of him again

Biscuitsneeded · 08/04/2023 17:34

I pretty much ignored him throughout the 80s as I thought he was just a pretty popstar. Then I bought Listen Without Prejudice in 1990 on a whim and tried to do just that... and he blew me away. It's still not really my kind of music, but his voice was incredible.

TheCentreSlide · 08/04/2023 17:34

What an absolute darling he was. Such a powerful, emotional voice, so much control, it seemed effortless.

+1 to the Mozzer heartbreak. When songs like ‘Bengali in platforms’ and ‘National Front Disco’ started to bleed through it felt like cognitive dissonance. How could he seem to be expressing these views, when his whole persona was surely at odds with such foul brutal thinking? But with time there were more and more.

That video of him in a basement singing ‘Irish Blood, English Heart’ as if racist nationalism made him a rebel.

If you haven’t seen the Simpsons episode about ‘The Snuffs’ and ‘Quilloughby’ please do - it really encapsulates both the early heady excitement of getting into the Smiths, and then the disappointment of what Morrissey became.

Bonelly · 08/04/2023 17:43

Yes

HappyMe6 · 08/04/2023 17:46

A different corner was beautiful song I can’t listen to it as it was one of my mums favourite songs, we both loved George! Mum passed away just before George did .
