What is this in my ear??

I know they probably aren't very good for you but I have one of those camera ear things to get wax out, to be fair it's been amazing and has stopped me having to get my ears syringed every 6 months.

Anyway... a few weeks ago I started to notice a tiny little white spot right inside my ear. Since then it's got bigger. It's not painful but seems to be hard when I touch it with the ear cleaner. It can also be slightly uncomfortable when touched with the cleaner but no other time. Managed to get a pic of it today. Is it something I need to see the Gp about or is it harmless?

What is this in my ear??

You could try sporners corner. They are good with weird lumpy things

Sarvanga38 · 05/04/2023 14:08

I have no idea, but that is fascinating! 😆

eartodaygonetomorrow · 05/04/2023 14:08

Thanks I'll try posting it there too!

Put a shout on the health board or something calling GP's, they are usually super helpful and might be able to save you an appointment

DigbyTheDigger · 05/04/2023 14:09

No idea what the lump is, but I want to know how the camera works! I can't work out the orientation of the photo. Presumably that black thing isn't an earbud nestled against your brain.

eartodaygonetomorrow · 05/04/2023 14:10

@DigbyTheDigger the black but it the eardrum. The blue but tight next to the camera is the ear cleaner thing on the end of the camera. They are honestly the best thing ever! I've never spent so much time looking at my ears haha

wonder if its a Milia spot?. try to soften it with warm water on cotton wool then press down on it with a hair grip.

Sporners Corner will demand request a klaxon and that you squeeze it on camera.

Please do!

eartodaygonetomorrow · 05/04/2023 14:11

@moofolk I've tried popping it but it's really hard Confused

I need one of these in my life

Sorry I'm no actual help though OP! A blackhead / spot perhaps?

moveoverye · 05/04/2023 14:18

I have no idea but am guessing that perhaps all your cleaning may have introduced some bacteria and it’s a spot? I’ve no idea if there’s many nerves in that part of your ear but if not perhaps that’s why it doesn’t hurt?

eartodaygonetomorrow · 05/04/2023 14:18

@Yorkyyorkyork they are amazing, I would definitely recommend even though I'm sure they are probably not very healthy for your ears. They just connect to an app on your phone so you just connect to the devices wifi and then the camera pops up on your phone (I don't work for them I promise haha)

Hm. Hard lump, growing over time... I'd probably see the GP about it just to be on the safe side. (I tend towards the overly cautious on this kind of thing though!)

It's almost certainly a little cyst or an infected hair follicle or similar but they might be able to give you something that'll help it bugger off quicker.

bingbangbongding · 05/04/2023 14:21

Is it not just a milia but inside your ear canal? They aren't soft like spots but are build ups of keratin, I believe.

I get them on my face. When they pop out they are a hard ball.

SinnerBoy · 05/04/2023 14:26

It's your brain leaking out, quick, push it back in!

eartodaygonetomorrow · 05/04/2023 14:27

@SinnerBoy I doubt my brain is that big some days Grin

Heh!

Dinopawus · 05/04/2023 14:30

Worth getting checked out. It might be a simple spot or something like a cholesteatoma which needs observing & treating with antibiotics if infected.

It can be the location of spots in the ear that is concerning as any infection can spread to bone and so needs treating quickly.

TheCaddieisaBaddie · 05/04/2023 14:31

Google ear Pearl.

Isthereanygoldenwonder · 05/04/2023 14:48

I'm interested to know which camera and cleaner you have! There's so many online. No idea about what's in your ear though, sorry!

eartodaygonetomorrow · 05/04/2023 14:51

@TheCaddieisaBaddie I did look at that but it says that grows behind the ear drum whereas this is before the eardrum.

@Isthereanygoldenwonder it's a smartbud that I've got

OP posts:
DigbyTheDigger · 05/04/2023 18:28

Wait, what?! Eardrums are BLACK???!!!

raspberrycordial · 05/04/2023 18:32

It looks like a milia to me too (👋🏻 fellow sporners), I don't think you'll be able to squeeze it without breaking the skin as usually the skin is too thick to break just using a hair grip.
