... to put cat shit through next door's letterbox?

It's in poo bags!

I've just cut some of the grass for the first time, and have picked up 3 lots of cat shit from an area of lawn about 30' x 15'. I know it's from next door's cat, one lot was in the spot where I saw the beast squatting for a leisurely dump this morning, and the other 2 lots are identical in size, shape and consistency, plus their cat is the only one that dares to linger in my garden.

And we never speak, so it's not as though I'd be damaging our relationship, because we don't have one. Mr NDN has never spoken a civil work to me in the 30 years I've lived here.

"It isn't the neighbours fault"

Of course it is. It's their cat.

I think posting it is a bit much. Could you leave it in a pile in their front garden?

How do you propose stopping a cat pooping...lock them in doors equivalent to caging animals in a zoo....a cat naturally roams a very long way....or destroying them?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 04/04/2023 17:07

I have a dog (who occasionally poos in my garden, but it's easy enough to watch out for and pick up). NO cats come into my garden, because dog is a cat-hating terrier and, despite there being four cats next door, they are all too terrified of her occasional barking dashes out up the path to come in and poo.
Cats like to be 'settled' to poo. If they fear they are likely to be the target of a savage dog, they don't tend to hang around for long enough. So could you borrow a dog - preferably a cat-chaser - for a few days? Long enough for the cats to get the 'fear'? Nothing that will do them any harm, obviously, but being chased over the fence a few times with a snarling set of teeth behind the offending part will put even the most determined cat off soiling your sod.

I am your side here - it's bloody disgusting. It's not so bad where we are now, but an old house if mine, the garden was literally just used as a toilet by so many cats. Before it could be used we'd have to spend so long clearing the cat shit out of it. I couldn't even leave downstairs windows open with three different cats deciding they could jump in. I ended up with a massive flea problem in my lounge because of them, and one was an neutered tom that would delightfully spray on my furniture. Nothing I tried would deter them aside from keeping windows and back door closed at all times.

I love cats. And when we had one she was a mainly indoor cat or garden when we were out there. It's not like cats are wild animals - if you own any animal, you should be responsible to ensuring it's not causing issues for other people.

Cats ARE wild animals to the extent they'll do whatever they want. What are you suggesting, ground them and change the wi-fi password?

We have 5 and plenty of litter trays and some of them are home poopers and some choose not to be. It doesn't help that one of our neighbours has created a box-style planting bed and left it empty of anything but soil - it looks exactly like a giant litter tray to them.

Shit happens.

I'd probably call the police if someone put shit through my letterbox.

lv884 · 04/04/2023 17:10

Don’t do it, OP, as exasperating as this cat is. Cats are notoriously antisocial (and fabulous for it) but human adults should know better. 😁 Just maybe get an equally obnoxious yappy dog instead - one that likes to bark in the morning. 😉

Bovrillavigne124 · 04/04/2023 17:11

Do it 😂😂😂

custardbear · 04/04/2023 17:12

He's probably shitty to his cat too then.
Poor kitty, if he's that awful he may do
Something cruel to the cat. Perhaps put some cat deterrent in your garden?

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 04/04/2023 17:12

The entitlement of some cat owners never fails to blow my mind.

The thought process seems to be......

"I want to have have a cat, the price my neighbours will pay for that is shit in their garden"

Do they have children? Who cares, they get shit in the garden.

Are they elderly or unable to clear it up? Who cares, they get shit in their garden.

Are they disgusted by the thought of clearing up after my cat? Who cares they..... You can see where I'm going with this.

Oh and they'll also kill birds (the cats not the owners).

Whatthefnow · 04/04/2023 17:13

Only if you don't mind them putting your bat shit through yours later.

StillWantingADog · 04/04/2023 17:14

Ywbu but Chuck it over the fence by all means.
what about one of those things that make a high pitched noise to put off The cat. We had a lot less visiting after putting it in our garden

PizzaPastaWine · 04/04/2023 17:20

LakieLady · 04/04/2023 16:10

Yes, but they were probably nice neighbours.

The man next door is an utter shit, including to his wife.

Why would you make her home situation worse? Shes living with a shit and now you want to post shit through her letterbox.

You'd be ridiculous and completely unreasonable OP but I think you already know that.

Wombatbum · 04/04/2023 17:22

Only 3 lots?! We once picked 40+ up from our garden before cutting it for the first time that year 🤢

Floofydawg · 04/04/2023 17:23

I do hate how it seems to be completely acceptable for cats to shit absolutely fucking everywhere with no onus on the owners to pick it up, whereas people froth at the mouth over dog shit.

I wouldn't put it through the letterbox but I'd definitely leave it on their doorstep.

Top tip - since we got a dog we don't get cats in our garden as they're scared shitless of him.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 04/04/2023 17:24

Badbudgeter · 04/04/2023 15:58

I wouldn’t but I would leave them on his front door step with a note. I do know someone who keeps a cat poo shovel and flicks it over the garden fence to where the cat lives.

I'd do this. I have a problem NDN, but I would never do something on the lines of your suggestion. Not through the letter box, you are sinking to their level. But leave it outside, yes.

Bexx87 · 04/04/2023 17:24

Animals pooing outdoors is something that happens. It's not like they can follow it round and pick it up. Put it on their doorstep if you must do something. But you do not put shit through someone's door for gods sake. I'd get police involved if that was done more than once.

But most cat owner presumably aren’t actually with their cat when they shit outside their home environment?

More than once???

someone shove shit through my letterbox, I call the police. It is an offence so why wouldn’t I?

Unless you’re my neighbour who walks hers in a cat buggy. Now I know why: she was sick of walking around the area trying to identify her cat’s number 2s to pick them up… 😉😁

PinkSyCo · 04/04/2023 17:28

Ffs OP stop it!!!

You’re giving me ideas.

Fwiw I've got a dog and no cat (and neighbours' cats used to shit in my garden till I put down stuff to deter them) but I think it's reasonable that I'm expected to pick up the dog shit my dog does when he's with me and that neighbours aren't expected to keep their cats locked inside or follow them on all their roamings.

ColdAsAWitchsTit · 04/04/2023 17:28

It would be horrible to have cats pooing in your garden but I'd try to rationalise it that they were probably keeping vermin away from your back door. Don't aggravate things with a neighbour, life is too short.

slowquickstep · 04/04/2023 17:29

I think you should insist he grounds his cat for 2 weeks and takes away it's catnip and Dreamies as a punishment.

MaggieThatchersFridge · 04/04/2023 17:30

I’d call the police if someone put shit through my letterbox.

Silverbook · 04/04/2023 17:31

Your neighbour isn’t actually doing anything wrong. Your potential reaction is OTT and won’t even come close to solving your problem.
