To eat jelly cubes?

Merryoldgoat · 03/04/2023 17:37

Lighthearted obvs.

My DH made a trifle (it was delicious).

There was a leftover packet of jelly, which I ate in raw cube form over the next few days.

DH thinks I’m a heathen.

AIBU to eat raw jelly?

Love them, great sweet fix when dieting 😂

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 03/04/2023 17:38

Always a treat when I was a child.

CinderRosie · 03/04/2023 17:38

YANBU it’s delicious, and isn’t is supposed to be good for your nails?

mac1974 · 03/04/2023 17:39

YANBU

Always sneaked one or two cubes when I was a child.
Found out the hard way that jelly doesn’t set if you eat too many. Doh!

parklimes · 03/04/2023 17:43

My my. Used to give us raw jelly cubes to strengthen our nails. So it's actually medicinal Smile

I may also have performed a similar experiment…

Beargrumps22 · 03/04/2023 17:46

all the best magazines used to tell you to eat jelly cubes for your nails very tasty too

AliceOlive · 03/04/2023 17:47

Jello is a thing in the us. Same thing, right?

TooManyAnimals94 · 03/04/2023 17:48

Used to drive my grandma nuts that me and my cousin would do this and there would be none left to make jelly with 😂

bizzywiththefizzy · 03/04/2023 17:49

I used to do this I always got shouted at by my Mum 😂for it . Don't do it anymore though , I would probably be annoyed if I went to make jelly and some of it was missing . Good job my kids were nothing like me.😁

Merryoldgoat · 03/04/2023 17:50

DH has just said ‘Mumsnet can fuck themselves’.

I’ve added jelly to the weekly shop.

🤣🤣🤣

A little girl I used to go to school with in reception class had a packet of 'raw' jelly cubes in her lunchbox.

DeMellierVenice · 03/04/2023 17:52

I used to get a couple of cubes as a treat in my lunch box as a child.

I now live in a country that doesn’t do jelly cubes. I discovered this many years ago when I had a craving and found that all jelly is in sachets (granules). Nobody at work had a clue what I was talking about as they’d never seen jelly cubes.

I am now craving some again, dammit.

DramaAlpaca · 03/04/2023 17:52

DM always used to save me a cube to eat raw when making jelly. It's a happy childhood memory. I still save one for myself, having 'forgotten' to teach my children that it's a thing.

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 03/04/2023 17:52

if you have citric acid and mix it 50/50 with sugar and roll the jelly cubes in it it's DIY haribo (was desperate one day!)

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 03/04/2023 17:54

I also used to eat the bits that attached the cubes together when I was making jelly - the kind of circle bits

DM used to say it was good for your hair/nails as full of gelatine, if it's good enough for bone broth . .

MintJulia · 03/04/2023 17:55

All that gelatine is definitely good for your nails, especially if you have flaky nails or are recovering from chemo. 😊

I used to eat cubes of lemon jelly regularly.

MissDollyMix · 03/04/2023 17:56

My mum actually used to give me a packet of jelly cubes to eat for my snack at school break time! Mad to think about it now, it’s a wonder I have any teeth left! Can you imagine what school would say if I gave my child that for their snack now?! That said, YANBU to eat one or two as a treat!

PogoThePunk · 03/04/2023 17:59

I love jelly cubes.
I might even be guilty of having a few sips of the jelly / water mix before putting it to set 😜

Toddlerteaplease · 03/04/2023 18:05

Love them!
