Drug users don’t give any thought to who’s behind their next spliff

I’m sick of how common smoking weed has become - you literally smell it on every street and it’s seen as no big deal to participate despite it being illegal - lots of people seem to think it’s no different to having a glass of wine and the police couldn’t give a damn.

Yet behind the scenes you’ve got scum like Thomas Cashman and the gangs who run county lines praying on vulnerable kids and funding the sort of lifestyles that many people seem to aspire to - you only have to look at Cashman’s gf with her Botox and Range Rover and all the other proceeds of his disgusting ‘career’ choice.

AIBU to think drugs are drugs and if you choose to use them you’re as bad as the arseholes who supply them?

Yeah the 'gateway drug' is nonsense. People use drugs because they make them feel good. Some people with trauma are unable to self regulate their use because it soothes that trauma. Wouldn't you use something if it made you feel better? It's self medication that turns into addiction.

If it were legalised and regulated the crime would disappear.

Untrue. there is still a black market in cigarettes even though they are legal.

Money is legal, and there's a black market in that too.

Sceptre86 · 04/04/2023 13:47

@Perfect28 there's a whole host of problems often from childhood that makes certain people more vulnerable. That is true. I disagree with you on the other point. At no point did I say that it was the only factor in harder drug use, often isn't but it is a starting point for many.

ScholesPanda · 04/04/2023 13:56

The war on drugs is a failure. The real guilty ones are the prohibitionists, who just perpetuate the misery the drugs trade causes with their pathetic desire to control the private actions of other adults.

I smoke weed. I used o smoke it every day but now usually just Friday evenings. I've raised 4 children, I hold down two jobs and have never had a psychotic episode in my life.

Of course there'll be some posters along to tell me I'm deluded and to that I would say, chill and have a spliff 😉

Aren't you bothered about where it comes from, the gangland culture and how many lives are ruined so you can take drugs or are you in a country where it's legal?

YANBU. Drug users care about their drugs, not about the impact their hobby has on the environment or other people.

bourboncreme · 04/04/2023 18:10

I have to say i have always been in the legalise and regulate camp and I think I still am but I've just come back from a city where it is famously legal and it was an eye opener and not in a good way. I was shocked , the stench was unbelievable in some parts of the city , and people lying in the streets completely stoned, admittedly not all from cannabis but the smell was all pervasive, on public transport, in shops and restaurants, in the street. I seem to be very sensitive as it almost always makes me wheeze, I'm an asthmatic.
I see that recent research has shown that passive inhalation is now being shown to damage children as much as nicotine and that it is listed as an asthma irritant. To me it smells like a mix of vomit and rotting veg I cannot imagine why inhaling that is pleasant, also it lingers dreadfully , I can smell it in a colleague's car but I expect she would deny it if I asked.
TBH i cannot believe we have spent so many years trying to get rid of cigarette smoke in public places only to now replace it with an equally vile smell, why to people have to smoke anything .

Nail on the head.

Just close the thread and end it here.

Marijuana is statistically less dangerous than both tobacco and alcohol, and less addictive.

If it were legalised and regulated the crime would disappear.

I doubt this murder was the result of peddling weed unless someone can correct me? More likely to be hard drugs such as cocaine.

How are you measuring levels of addiction? I can’t see in what way it’s less addictive?

anyone who supports any part of the cannabis industry is supporting child slavery, and they know it, although some seem to think they can pretend otherwise

I mean, that’s not dissimilar to buying and supporting fast fashion.

I can believe this. Weed definitely effects everybody differently though same as alcohol some people are happy drunks, emotional, low alcohol tolerance or perhaps high.

So the fact you raised 4 kids and held down 2 jobs... that's just you though. Some people wouldn't be able to function never mind psychotic episodes!

AintNobodyHateMeBetter · 03/04/2023 20:57

Legalising drugs will normalise it to children.

It what does that actually mean ?

Alcohol (the most socially destructive of all drugs ) is legal.. it's completely 'normalised' .. some people have a glass of wine with Sunday lunch once a week .. some people drink half a bottle of vodka every night ..

I know a recreational heroin user who is a very well known Barrister.. Professionals - such as doctors and psychiatrists who do coke on high days and holidays .. it's about education.. all of the above know that over indulging will fuck their lives be it alcohol coke or weed.. there is absolutely know difference except one is legal and the others aren't ... the only winners here are organised crime who make money and exploit people purely down to the legality..

Luckydip1 · 04/04/2023 18:34

They should legalise it.

Karwomannghia · 04/04/2023 20:32

people keep saying how awful
alcohol is and I agree. However it is disingenuous to say weed is ok to be legal because it’s not as bad as alcohol. Alcohol is legal and has become normalised and has had a disastrous effect. We’re all so hooked on it there would be carnage if more restrictions were brought in. More people would smoke weed more often if it were legal. People do need laws to prevent irresponsible behaviour. Look at Amsterdam. Amsterdam where they are bringing in more restrictions on weed because it has got out of hand. If weed was legalised it would have to be heavily restricted. I wouldn’t wish psychosis on anyone.

Gangsters aren't shooting each other (and innocent bystanders) over the cigarette trade though they? It's not a billion pound industry, it's the bloke in the pub who sneaks some in through Dover or something.

The problem is everyone descends on Amsterdam because it's legal there and not in most other places. Amsterdam are punished for the nonsensical prohibition elsewhere as much as for their own drug policy.

But if you're going to let organised crime profit by making it illegal, at least police it so we don't have to smell it everywhere. We get the worst of both worlds. It's everywhere in the UK and illegal anyway.

bourboncreme · 04/04/2023 23:16

It wasn’t Amsterdam where we were , the friends we were staying with said that generally most people still buy on the street because the stores were more expensive. It was being opening traded on street corners as far as I could see. They seemed to think it was very difficult to regulate supply. There were people going into the stores but they were mostly older or better off also I assume you need ID etc .

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 04/04/2023 23:29

Saw an elderly lady off her lump on bunty clumps this morning. They get them in the post office, under the counter. I’ve seen pensioners fighting for clumps around the back of the pub too. Falling viciously upon each other with their clenching dentures.

Weed hasn't got out of hand in Amsterdam, drunken stag parties in the Red Light District have got out of hand

StLevanBlackcaps · 05/04/2023 17:46

@Thesharkradar why do you say that? It's not legal just because people would like it to be and the police turn a blind eye. I'm on the fence as to whether it should be or not but currently it isn't as far as I know.

@StLevanBlackcaps all you need to do is sign up to a medical cannabis clinic and you can legally buy the same cannabis that is available on the black market

Thesharkradar · 05/04/2023 17:52

https://www.sapphireclinics.com/
you can contact them, say you have, for instance... anxiety problems, sleeping problems and bobs your uncle, costs pretty much the same as black market cannabis, possibly slightly lower potency, but then you just use a bit more to get the effect you want😇

I can remember when there were no medical benefits from cannabis. It was before Tate & Lyle became the worlds biggest cannabis dealers.

Turned out all you need to make something medical was to do it in Norfolk.

Who knew ?
