Drug users don’t give any thought to who’s behind their next spliff

I’m sick of how common smoking weed has become - you literally smell it on every street and it’s seen as no big deal to participate despite it being illegal - lots of people seem to think it’s no different to having a glass of wine and the police couldn’t give a damn.

Yet behind the scenes you’ve got scum like Thomas Cashman and the gangs who run county lines praying on vulnerable kids and funding the sort of lifestyles that many people seem to aspire to - you only have to look at Cashman’s gf with her Botox and Range Rover and all the other proceeds of his disgusting ‘career’ choice.

AIBU to think drugs are drugs and if you choose to use them you’re as bad as the arseholes who supply them?

Cannabis is grim. Modern day slavery is rife in cannabis farms in the UK, but most of those smoking weed couldn't give a shot about how its produced.

Modern day slavery is rife in everything you consume.

jibbe · 03/04/2023 17:32

If you have a social conscience then you really wouldn’t smoke weed, it’s wrong on so many levels, county lines, increase of crime, trafficking, v dangerous for the developing brain - it’s all connected to weed and once there is an acceptance then harder drugs often follow!

Hamsterrace · 03/04/2023 17:23

Did you give any thought to the poor children that were sent down mines for the cobalt to make your smartphone battery? The people trapped in modern slavery making clothes? The people in India and China breathing in toxic fumes from the manufacturing plants making half the stuff in your house?

I agree that the drugs trade is brutal. But guilt tripping the people at the bottom of the chain is never going to work.

anyone who isnt concerned about children being sent down mines in the Congo for minerals for tech is frankly sub human.

Anyone who doesn't consider this when buying tech or voting, frankly doesn't deserve the vote - the government does what it can, and continues to do so, the main issue is China obscuring the origin of the components it exports.

The difference between that and weed is the people sitting on this thread smuggly yackering crap about "growing their own" or buying it from people who they know grow it, those people are right now average within 10 miles of 8 year old slaves being forced to work without education, medical care or nutrition, and THEY are the people who are pinning the children down there.

and I am not sorry if I upset their precious little egos by "guilt tripping" them by pointing it out

SCUM

There needs to be a lot more publicity about cannabis induced paranoia.

I've seen so many lives ruined by it.

It's easier to get the effects of heroin out of your system.

Yes I agree. I have seen the direct effect that weed induced paranoia has had on two people I know well .The ripple effect has been absolutely horrendous for many people involved …it is so quickly dismissed as ‘just weed ‘ !

Nimbostratus100 · 03/04/2023 17:38

Its always "o we know who grows it" " it isn't from county lines" etc etc etc

Its just advertising.

The big drug cartels all have their cosy little "home grown weed branch" so that over privileged thickies can pretend it is all so wholesome and home grown.

Anyone who has met or cared for any such child slaves HATES and LOATHES such over privileged thickies.

Amazing how many people are still up in arms about the North Atlantic slave trade abolished over 100 years ago, yet fully supports and endorses the much wider slave problem in the weed industry a few miles from their doors today

I am hiding this thread, these attitudes make me so angry I cant enjoy a conversation about it

Karwomannghia · 03/04/2023 17:39

Oh yes legalising things makes them much safer just look at alcohol use and gun ownership!
And cannabis is not harmless, speaking from the grim experience of a late schizophrenic brother and another close family member who has just had a psychotic episode. Plus the others I know who are regular users who are depressed or at best completely unmotivated to do anything else.

Thesharkradar · 03/04/2023 17:43

it's legal.... you can legally buy medical cannabis in the UK

Definitely this. Two of my family members suffered this. One was misdiagnosed with schizophrenia when she was only a leave teenager (this is going back over 20 years ago though). Although she stopped smoking immediately, it has had a profound affect on her life since.

BlackBarbies · 03/04/2023 17:43

Everyone loves the ‘county lines’ and ‘child slavery’ lines on here.

What about people who use recreational drugs such as coke, MDMA and whatever the hell some of you people use. They’re absolutely no different so why bang on about weed?

Largeflaskoftea · 03/04/2023 17:43

Late teenager, I meant.

Thesharkradar · 03/04/2023 17:45

Nimbostratus100 · 03/04/2023 17:21

anyone who supports any part of the cannabis industry is supporting child slavery, and they know it, although some seem to think they can pretend otherwise

the UK is one of the biggest growers & exporters of legal cannabis

Shininghope · 03/04/2023 17:47

You are being unreasonable in that drugs are just drugs, it’s people that do the things you are taking about not drugs. Drugs are just chemicals that modulate mood. All of the crimes you speak about could be immediately eradicated by decriminalisation, legalisation and regulation.

There’s suffering behind the way some (not all) drugs are produced and distributed but the same can be said for meat, soy milk, throw away fashion, plastic distribution etc. But that is no more the fault of drugs that it is the fault of soy milk. By your logic no one should use anything that causes harm to others in its creation or distribution. That would be great if we could do that but not possible right now.

The smell of weed everywhere, that is inconsiderate and I personally hate it.

Vegetus · 03/04/2023 17:47

People will always use drugs there's no getting around that. As proved everywhere criminalising drug use doesn't work so the best thing would be to legalise them, control the quality and supply and make a shit load of tax money in the process.

begoneday · 03/04/2023 17:51

The drug you choose to consume just happens to be legal. I’d rather be surrounded by weed smokers than drunkards.

Thesharkradar · 03/04/2023 17:56

arguably the chief reason alcohol remains legal is that it's very difficult to ban, it occurs spontaneously in nature...things ferment just as a matter of course & alcohol is produced.
Yes some people should avoid cannabis as it causes them problems, however many people find it beneficial, enjoyable and therapeutic, acohol on the other hand is highly toxic to all tissues in the body.

Where do you buy it?

My Doctor sends my prescription to my pharmacy and my pharmacy send it out in the post.

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 03/04/2023 18:06

I'd rather be around someone whose stoned than a drinker who wants to fight. Grow up it's a plant.

CheeseDreamsTonight · 03/04/2023 18:12

It's one of many things people turn a blind eye to.

Sweatshops
Animal cruelty
Child Labour
Environmental degradation

But people still buy the fashion, eat the food, buy the bags and shoes, go ok the holidays, buy the pointless crap and ship it across the world.

Yes drugs are the end point of a massive issue, but so are many many other things so don't be too high and mighty

such a naive take on getting stoned

SuperDrooper · 03/04/2023 18:17

YANBU.

The price of cannabis is on the rise so more and more is being produced in this country. That's leading to more victims in the chain in terms of modern slavery and county lines. It's really tragic.

Agree.

Cigarettes are no better and are filled with more toxins than cannabis. Alcohol is an acknowledged, accepted, heck even glorified drug/poison that causes plenty known issues with its consumption.
