Unannounced visitors are the worst!

Inspired by another thread today, I wanted to gauge opinion on my pet peeve - people who turn up at your house unannounced expecting to be invited in for an impromptu social visit.

I bloody hate it. Just don’t, it’s such an imposition! You should at least call or send a text to see if the potential host is available for visitors. Maybe I’m too uptight and not spontaneous enough, but I find it incredibly rude. So,

YABU - it’s lovely to have visitors and I need to lighten up and relax.

YANBU - unexpected visitors are bloody rude, and a menace to society.

Bonus points for unannounced visitor stories, especially if they are cfs!

DH and I both work from home, and it was a work day which made this extra unexpected. I was expecting a parcel to be delivered, so when the door went I didn’t really think and just opened it, only to find FIL and SIL were on the doorstep.

I have no idea why they thought a workday was a good time to visit? I guess neither work so they don’t think anyone else does? They promptly invited themselves in, and sat on the sofa wanting tea. Then SIL (who is mid 50s btw!) didn’t say a word for an hour just glowered at me and DH and then played her phone loudly anytime FIL tried to talk. Eventually DH had enough and politely kicked them out. It was just bizarre.

We are now looking at houses much further away with gated entrances! LOL

Mobile phones mean you can phone, even if only five minutes away.

Yeah it’s rude to turn up unannounced- might as well say my time is more important than yours
