To report this woman on Fb Marketplace. And what will happen to them?

So this morning someone messaged me to ask about some used kids toys I'm selling on Markerplace. Then told me they didn't drive. I quickly checked their profile and apparently it's a woman in her 50-60s. As her address is on my way to town this afternoon, I told her I could do free delivery for her but I'd need part or full prepayment via PayPal or bank transfer to cover my petrol cost just in case, the rest can be paid in cash when I bring the items over. She then asked about another item I'm listing, I told her it was available too and I could bring them all to her, juat that I'd need a prepayment of any amount she liked, perhaps £5. And she replied me with "Don't bloody bother", which left me in deep shock. All the while it was an amicable conversation with me replying her quickly and politely, asking all the question she had. And yes I even offered free delivery cause I guessed she was a grandma buying toys for visiting grandkids or smth like that. I don't know why all of a sudden she became so rude. It's not I don't want to trust people but I'm on Marketplace long enough to know there can be all sorts of trolls and timewasters there, so I think what I asked for is acceptable and not something that can make people turn so angry and rude.

Much as I want to sympathise this woman and who knows, she can have some sort of mental health issue but her last message did "bloody bother" me and I reported the conversation and leave the chat.

Now what do you think? And do have an idea what will happen if someone gets reported like that? I did choose the reason as "verbal harrassment" cause I think that's the closest option given by Facebook/Messenger. TIA.

And she's taking on a risk of £5 which you won't give back to her if she doesn't want the items. So you might not turn up and she's lost £5. That's a lot worse than you putting the items in your car and stopping somewhere on the way to where you were going anyway. You didn't need to protect your interests but you tried to do so in a way that meant you made a quick buck either way, whether she wanted the items or not. You wouldn't have been out of pocket if she hadn't bought and you could still have sold them to someone else. I can understand why she couldn't be bothered with that. It's insulting.

Thoughtful2355 · 02/04/2023 14:25

I never pay pre pay or paypal. FB is FULL of scams and a big one if offering free delivery but pre payment needed or holding for prepayment.

GodSaveTheClean · 02/04/2023 14:25

I’d never send PayPal for items I hadn’t seen. Yabu and over reacting.

Thoughtful2355 · 02/04/2023 14:26

ALSO nothing will happen to her for saying dont bloody bother -_- Jeesus get a grip, you really think FB will take your complaint serious? HAHA okay then

FangsForTheMemory · 02/04/2023 14:27

I think she got irritated. She was rude, though.

It's a deposit for the items, not delivery fee. It's £15 in total, I asked her to send me £5 deposit and the rest can be paid in cash. So if she actually buys them it's £15 with no delivery cost.

But that £5 will be to cover my petrol cost if let's say I bring it there and she says she doesn't like it and won't take it. Who knows.

Still though, she doesn't know you - you might not turn up. If you were going that way anyway I would've just gave her a knock - it's not a huge deal. By asking for money upfront she's probably just assumed you're one of the many, many scammers on FB.

I occasionally ask customers for a deposit for orders made through FB but I have an online presence with a website and 1000s of reviews on selling platforms, a 30 day returns policy and a searchable address so the risk to my customers is tiny - if you don't have that I can understand her reluctance to forward you cash before seeing the items you're selling in person.

fitzwilliamdarcy · 02/04/2023 14:28

You were trying to get someone to pay for your petrol into town and you’re in shock because they thought that wasn’t on? Wow.

Hellzbellz25 · 02/04/2023 14:29

She could have transferred you the money and you never turn up tho?! I'd have just got cash from her

JackiePlace · 02/04/2023 14:29

Nutter.
I once made an enquiry to a lady that was selling some lampshades on FB. She hadn't posted pictures of all of them and after she did so at my request, I decided I didn't want them so I didn't communicate further apart from thanking her for the photos. A few days later she messaged me to aask if I wanted to collect them that day, and I replied "Thanks but they aren't quite what I was loooking for so I will pass"... She replied calling me a cunt and time waster, and asked why I bloody asked her for pictures.
As I said above… Nutter.

Christmascracker0 · 02/04/2023 14:31

That is tame for FB marketplace!

Also I’ve never heard of someone wanting a deposit for a £15 item..

Tellmethespoiler · 02/04/2023 14:31

Whinge · 02/04/2023 14:22

I don't think her response was rude, she was probably worried you were trying to scam her. If she sends you a deposit and then you don't turn up, there's no way for her to get her money back. If you want to sell the items and were going past her house why not just offer to drop them off?

Anyone who says, “Don’t bloody bother,” is being rude.

SnackSizeRaisin · 02/04/2023 14:34

The woman was being cheeky, why did she tell you she didn't drive? That's not the seller's problem. It's up to her to arrange a lift or catch a bus. She was obviously hoping for free delivery. People who are unreasonably rude are usually scammers. Nothing will happen with the reporting though.

JudgeRudy · 02/04/2023 14:49

Growlybear83 · 02/04/2023 14:18

If you're in deep shock by what this woman said, I hate to think how you would cope with something that really IS shocking!

I agree. If anyone is mentally unwell it's OP. Complete over reaction. Yes the buyer was a little rude...she just wanted to buy the toys and now you want bank/PayPal transfers (which she may not have) and it's too much faffing about. She was frustrated. She didn't harass you at all. She said one sharp sentence and that ended things.
Advice - don't buy or sell on line. You will meet a lot worse than this and your heart might not take it.

thegrain · 02/04/2023 14:52

Namechange1345677 · 02/04/2023 14:20

Haha...she prob thought you were scaming her!

Yeah I hope she reported you OP!

Antiquiteas · 02/04/2023 14:53

I’d have messaged back saying ‘no need to be a rude twat.’

thegrain · 02/04/2023 14:54

Well dodgy OP

YouJustDoYou · 02/04/2023 14:56

I'm so used to these chancers on facebook. "Don't drive/got fibro/disabled/can you drive it to me/can't get a bus".

PapadamPreach · 02/04/2023 14:56

Now that you’ve reported her, she’ll definitely be arrested.

MajorCarolDanvers · 02/04/2023 14:57

It's not very nice but I think you just block and move on. FB don't want to police squabbles.

BMW6 · 02/04/2023 15:00

If someone saying "Don't bloody bother" leaves you in "deep shock" you need some kind of therapy!

🙄

ConstanceOcean · 02/04/2023 15:05

There’s no need to report, just don’t swell it to her.

I would never pay for anything upfront even if it’s just a small amount and every selling site will tell you not to do this.

I’m surprised you haven’t been reported for being a potential scam.

LumpyandBumps · 02/04/2023 15:05

Facebook Marketplace can be a real mixed bag. One thing I have learned though is never to offer delivery. I once had someone ask me to make a 30 miles round trip to deliver a £10 item.
I always stress collection only. It doesn’t stop one woman from asking if I pass her village on nearly every post though 😀

MaryKateDanaher · 02/04/2023 15:06

"Deep shock". 😂

HarrietStyles · 02/04/2023 15:06

She thought you were scamming her. You should NEVER send money online to a complete random you’ve never met, who says it’s a deposit/delivery charge and says they are going to drop the items over at your house after. If I were her I would 100% think you were a scammer, planning to take my £15, then never hear or see from you again. You weren’t scamming her, but from her side she doesn’t know you and that you are a nice honest person.

BelindaMelinda · 02/04/2023 15:12

And do have an idea what will happen if someone gets reported like that?

😂

Absolutely nothing op.

If she reports you as a scam seller, requesting bank transfer, there's a far higher chance of you be (temporarily or permanently) booted from Marketplace access.
