School ski trip cancelled due to chaos in Dover - fuck the tories

1000 replies

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 10:57

My 15 year old son has just spent 17 hours in a coach in dover waiting to go on a much anticipated ski trip. It’s cost us over £1500 over a year and we hoped, given everything our kids lost over covid, it would be a positive experience.

The school just notified us to say that now- due to health and safety, drivers hours etc- the trip needs to be cancelled and the kids are on their way back from dover.

Absolutely FUCK the lying Tory cunts - they ruin everything. They try and blame the French yet all of this lies at their door. Fuck them all for ruining 100 kids trip (and probably thousands more) and ruining everything they touch with their stinking corrupt lies and their lies about brexit.

My son was in tears.

You didn't vote Remain

Well I did.
I appreciate that that upsets your need for a binary argument.

Rae36 · 02/04/2023 12:21

What a shitshow. I'm so sorry for your boy. He must be devastated.

What “best things” have we to look forward to?

Them and Brexit are the best things to happen to this country in a long time.

In what ways?

Actually - forget it. Not derailing a thread about yet another Brexit-related issue with it.

OP’s entitled to stamp her feet over this. It’s unfair and never should have happened.

She’s entitled to make others aware of yet another shitty result of Brexit, which was sold to us as such a boon for all.

She’s entitled to feel sorry for her son’s disappointment.

Her feelings and conclusions are reasonable. It’s you who can’t see reason. Apparently.

You might as well give up - I'm not sleeping with you...

I think we can agree on that.

Your poor son I get the anger and upset
Pretty sure the tories alone didn't vote for brexit though

They had a totally unnecessary referendum.
They failed to set it up sensibly. When you are looking at overturning the status quo, any government with any sense does not opt for a referendum with a simply majority Yes/No vote.
They could have campaigned effectively and torn apart all those pro Brexit lies.
If they were stuck with it, they could have implemented it much, much better, including putting in place sensible border check arrangements. And they could have had a competent and truthful Prime Minister and cabinet in place instead of that idiot liar Johnson and his even more idiotic mendacious sidekicks.

And if you don't believe that plenty of Tory voters voted for Brexit, how on earth do you account for the result of the vote?

StepAwayFromGoogling · 02/04/2023 12:24

Oh a referendum would have happened eventually, regardless of who was in power. Just fucking ridiculous that 51% of the UK population voted to leave. Blame them. It was always going to cause chaos.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/04/2023 12:24

Well it is said they underestimated coach numbers, @andweallsingalong - which is surprising as coaches will hardly turn up on spec - but once again I suspect there's arse covering and details we're not being told

WhatTheHeckyPeck · 02/04/2023 12:25

Sarcasm right?

Member589500 · 02/04/2023 12:25

I work in this area. Not seeing how it’s the government’s fault that the French didn’t staff their part of the border sufficiently or efficiently or that port control under estimated coach numbers or bad weather caused delays.
Yes Brexit changed the underlying nature of the control at the border but there were always checks on every passport. The main factor here was French inefficiency. UK border control are often under staffed too and queues build up on the other side. Never as bad as this though.

I was right. No point engaging with the likes of this.

Abraxan · 02/04/2023 12:25

OP is in an angry fog and cannot see reason 🤷‍♀️

Would you genuinely not be annoyed if your child had been sat on a delayed coach for over 17 hours?
Or if a long awaited holiday had been cancelled last minute, whilst on your way?
Or if you have no idea if you could recoup any of £1500, that's taken you a year of saving to pay out?

All for an issue that has been caused, yet again, to this Government and their 'dead.'

Rosula · 02/04/2023 12:25

Walkingtheplank · 02/04/2023 12:08

You sound nice.

You don't.

arethereanyleftatall · 02/04/2023 12:26

Can someone help someone at the back (me). I thought passports were always looked at when one left the country? Pre and post brexit.

Lonelycrab · 02/04/2023 12:26

Sarcasm right?

No, just raw stupidity.

jakscrakers · 02/04/2023 12:27

Brexit of course its not, its because the french are on strike if there is only one passport officer at there end of course there are going to be humongous queues

Before Brexit you were waved through. Now there is border control. This is entirely the fault of the tories and Brexit.

Theos · 02/04/2023 12:28

Particularly for large coaches/vehicles, etc. a simpler system used to happen prior to Brexit and border control changes.

Theos · 02/04/2023 12:28

Whatever the cause is families made alternate arrangements for this week. Such a disappointment
