School ski trip cancelled due to chaos in Dover - fuck the tories

1000 replies

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 10:57

My 15 year old son has just spent 17 hours in a coach in dover waiting to go on a much anticipated ski trip. It’s cost us over £1500 over a year and we hoped, given everything our kids lost over covid, it would be a positive experience.

The school just notified us to say that now- due to health and safety, drivers hours etc- the trip needs to be cancelled and the kids are on their way back from dover.

Absolutely FUCK the lying Tory cunts - they ruin everything. They try and blame the French yet all of this lies at their door. Fuck them all for ruining 100 kids trip (and probably thousands more) and ruining everything they touch with their stinking corrupt lies and their lies about brexit.

My son was in tears.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you and your child. I hope you can get your money back.

My dc school went in February half term and they had a 8 hour delay on the Eurostar.

So yes the Government know this would happen it's happened every holiday last year and this year. And those people who have booked holidays for May Half term and Summer holidays should expect the same delays.

Yeah. Funny how people never admit to voting for brexit when their opinions clearly show they did. I guess it must be an embarrassing thing to admit!

massistar · 02/04/2023 12:15

Most of the kids on my daughter's trip are skiing for the first time. We're just an ordinary comp with ordinary families who've saved all year. Don't think that's entitled.

I agree except it’s not just the tories, I feel their just puppets and even if it was labour the same shit would be happening cos it’s about who the real power is behind the scenes

What utter bollocks. How on earth would this be happening if we hadn't gone through the sheer folly of Brexit? Which is totally down to the Tories.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/04/2023 12:16

"British nationals travelling to and from European Union countries from May 2022 and on will no longer have their passports stamped, as the information on the date of their entry to the block, or the exit, will be recorded through a new automated system"

Hmm, interesting
So I wonder if this is yet another case of a system going down/not being fit for purpose and they just don't want to say

Desiredeffect · 02/04/2023 12:16

Sorry to hear this and the conservatives are pure scum can't stand any of them and all a bunch of liars

IClaudine · 02/04/2023 12:16

Someone will be along to blame Corbyn soon, I expect.

It's safe to say that TomatoFrog's comment is about halfway between Dagenham and Stratford.

Barking.

You seem to forget @TheColourofspring that it was a referendum that caused Brexit. People had a choice.

Also, the reports online say that the port authorities have underestimated the amount of coach traffic by 15% and there have been delays on channel crossings due to the weather.

I am so sorry. That’s horrible for your ds as well as the driver and the teachers. I am glad to see there will be a system from May for dealing with this element of the act of self harm our country inflicted on itself.

Oh Dear.
Heres a tissue - it would be more accurate to blame to majority of the population who voted for it not the political party who were duty bound to impliment it.
Very bad planning on your schools part to travel on a known extreemly busy time of year expecialy with the added troubles in France at the moment.

What a silly comment. The Tories decided to hold a referendum.

They could easily have not done so. But we’re more worried about the impact of UKIP on their party, than about the impact on the country and its 60 odd million inhabitants.

Then they decided to go for a hard Brexit instead is a soft one.

It’s on them. They need to accept responsibility.

What an entitled titled thread.

A ski trip (which most people can't afford) cancelled and its blamed on the Tories.

Could it be this level of being out of touch that caused so many non-Tory voters to vote for Brexit?

For the avoidance of doubt, I voted Remain but I accept that the majority of those who voted wanted to Leave because that's democracy.

And? The vote would not have happened but for the Tories. It's also a fair bet that, even if it had happened, any other party would have managed it better to so as to stop the electorate being peddled all those horrendous lies by the Brexit camp.

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/04/2023 12:17

Oops scrap that. It was 2022!

So a lad from a family that can save for a ski trip over the period of a year deserves to be disappointed, just because his family aren’t on the absolute bread line?

Nice.

andweallsingalong · 02/04/2023 12:19

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/04/2023 12:13

Very sorry about the awful disappointment, OP; I know it doesn't help in any practical way but everyone really feels for you all

I'm honestly trying to understand this though; it's not as if border control have to carefully scan every page and processing passports is usually just a matter of scanning in the number and checking what comes up

So unless it's about numbers of staff rather than the checks themselves - or unless a lot of people have ignored expiry dates and other details causing delays - I'm wondering what exactly the problem is, and how it can be avoided in future

This, is it not about a lack of staff and preplanning at the boarders given visitor figures are largely known and by now surely they know how long it takes to check passports using the new system.

Sorry about your son OP

But it wasn't the majority of the population, was it? It was around 36% of the population. Any government with half a brain between them would never have wasted time with the referendum. If they had gone ahead with it, they would have set it up sensibly, for example to require 60% to overturn the status quo, or to require a second vote. And they would have campaigned effectively.
