School ski trip cancelled due to chaos in Dover - fuck the tories

1000 replies

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 10:57

My 15 year old son has just spent 17 hours in a coach in dover waiting to go on a much anticipated ski trip. It’s cost us over £1500 over a year and we hoped, given everything our kids lost over covid, it would be a positive experience.

The school just notified us to say that now- due to health and safety, drivers hours etc- the trip needs to be cancelled and the kids are on their way back from dover.

Absolutely FUCK the lying Tory cunts - they ruin everything. They try and blame the French yet all of this lies at their door. Fuck them all for ruining 100 kids trip (and probably thousands more) and ruining everything they touch with their stinking corrupt lies and their lies about brexit.

My son was in tears.

Your poor son! He must be feeling so disappointed right now. Also how awful for the driver and teachers - it’s horrible waiting for so many hours in a huge traffic jam.

Purplehyena · 02/04/2023 12:08

It’s the fault of Brexit, and the majority of Tories are to blame for that. It was also the Tory government who rejected proposals to increased capacity at Dover to try to mitigate these issues which were ver predictable. It’s also the Tories who refuse to acknowledge what a shit show they have created and do anything about it. So yes, this situation is absolutely at the hands of the Tories.

When you get your refund you have full authority to take them out of school during term time.

I agree except it’s not just the tories, I feel their just puppets and even if it was labour the same shit would be happening cos it’s about who the real power is behind the scenes

The Labour Party were not responsible for Brexit.

Babyroobs · 02/04/2023 12:09

My dd has been stuck for 16 hours but now on her way. In some ways I wished they had just of cancelled and come home. They will be exhausted after a 40+ hour trip and only a few days skiing. And yes we too have paid over 1k for the trip and then for clothing etc.I feel the same way as you - dd's year were badly affected by covid - no end of year 11 prom or getting to say goodbye to school friends that were going off to other sixth forms. Sixth form has been awful for her, anxiety etc and we thought this would be good for her.

@TomatoFrog bollocks. It lies entirely at the tories feet - Brexit it an unmitigated disaster. It was the tories that insisted that every passport had to be stamped.

"British nationals travelling to and from European Union countries from May 2022 and on will no longer have their passports stamped, as the information on the date of their entry to the block, or the exit, will be recorded through a new automated system."

it is not fair. Your poor son and all the other children too. Yes, the Tories have pillaged our country to satiate their personal greed. They should all be deported to Rwanda. They are cunts.

What an entitled titled thread.

A ski trip (which most people can't afford) cancelled and its blamed on the Tories.

Could it be this level of being out of touch that caused so many non-Tory voters to vote for Brexit?

For the avoidance of doubt, I voted Remain but I accept that the majority of those who voted wanted to Leave because that's democracy.

As if you voted remain with those opinions.

Is it entitled to expect to be able to travel smoothly to a rebooked and paid for trip? It doesn't matter if that trip is a cheap trip down the road or a more expensive ski holiday. It's been paid for and should be able to happen.

So, if it isn't being caused by the Brexit issue which was instigated by the Tory government, why do YOU think the issues are happening?

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 12:11

@TomatoFrog it’s a ‘am I being unreasonable that the tories are lying cunts who have ruined the country’ thread

It's nothing to do with whether or not most people can afford a ski trip.

Which wouldn't have happened but for Brexit.

Ellmau · 02/04/2023 12:12

Blame it on Brexit by all means, but tbf not all Conservatives voted Leave and not everyone who voted Leave was Conservative.

massistar · 02/04/2023 12:12

Oh no! Your poor son!

My DD waited 16 hours at Dover on Friday for their ski trip. Managed to finally get away but had to stop halfway down France as drivers had exceeded their hours. They've lost a day skiing but hopefully will arrive today.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/04/2023 12:13

Very sorry about the awful disappointment, OP; I know it doesn't help in any practical way but everyone really feels for you all

I'm honestly trying to understand this though; it's not as if border control have to carefully scan every page and processing passports is usually just a matter of scanning in the number and checking what comes up

So unless it's about numbers of staff rather than the checks themselves - or unless a lot of people have ignored expiry dates and other details causing delays - I'm wondering what exactly the problem is, and how it can be avoided in future

Don't call me a liar because I have the ability to understand the perspective of others.

You are absolutely proving the point I made.

Your "You're wrong, I'm right" message is what people voted against.

Thatladdo · 02/04/2023 12:05

Oh Dear.
Heres a tissue - it would be more accurate to blame to majority of the population who voted for it not the political party who were duty bound to impliment it.
Very bad planning on your schools part to travel on a known extreemly busy time of year expecialy with the added troubles in France at the moment.

So how about blaming Cameron for implementing the referendum to appease UKIP?

kessiebird · 02/04/2023 12:14

I'm genuinely gutted for your son and I'd be as p*ssed as you are!

In 2022 I spent several minutes at the Dutch border (ferry crossing) explaining why our 2018 UK passports had no stamps on them yet. No need in 2018 and 2019, holidays cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid. Family of four on a trip to Amsterdam and Berlin - questioned on how long we were staying, where we were going on to, how were we getting back to the UK. Quite a surprise after years of waving my passport at border officials. Can see why there are hold ups.

David Cameron put the EU referendum in the 2015 manifesto. That's where Brexit grew from, when people voted the Tories in, in 2015.

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 02/04/2023 12:14

A ski trip (which most people can't afford) cancelled and its blamed on the Tories.

So it would be OK for the OP to complain if her son had been going on a cheap camping holiday, but because it's a more costly ski trip, she has to shut up and accept it?

Bonkers logic.
