School ski trip cancelled due to chaos in Dover - fuck the tories

1000 replies

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 10:57

My 15 year old son has just spent 17 hours in a coach in dover waiting to go on a much anticipated ski trip. It’s cost us over £1500 over a year and we hoped, given everything our kids lost over covid, it would be a positive experience.

The school just notified us to say that now- due to health and safety, drivers hours etc- the trip needs to be cancelled and the kids are on their way back from dover.

Absolutely FUCK the lying Tory cunts - they ruin everything. They try and blame the French yet all of this lies at their door. Fuck them all for ruining 100 kids trip (and probably thousands more) and ruining everything they touch with their stinking corrupt lies and their lies about brexit.

My son was in tears.

If only Labour were in charge, things would be so much better. Literally there would be unicorns farting rainbows all over our golden wonderland.

Exactly, things are really fantastic under the tories aren't they? Our economy is boomi....oh wait.

Anyway, I'm sure things will turn around soon with all that extra investment and trade deals coming into the coun.......oh wait.

Well, to be honest it's been a tough few years but thankfully the tories, as the party of fiscal responsibility, have gotten the national debt mountain under con.....oh wait.

Ok the economy might not be so great but the NHS! The NHS has never been in a better posit......oh wait.

I suppose we could console ourselves with the fact we've got world class public serv......oh.

Right, forget all that at leat we've taken back control of our borders and got immigration under contr........oh.

Well, things will be OK in the future as we've invested so heavily in our children's educa.....fuck.

Em, this isn't going quite as I'd planned. I'm gonna need some of our resident torypuppets to jump in and tell us all exactly what has improved over the last 13 years of tory rule??

mindra · 02/04/2023 16:29

I notice people who voted Brexit are mainly denying it now. Bloody idiots.

Yes Brexit is the Tory Brexiteers' fault. That said, it's not as if Labour took a coherent stance against Brexit either. They were all over the place on this issue.

The only party with an anti-Brexit manifesto was the LDs - but nobody voted for them. Why not? I did and I live in one of the few LD constituencies. Why the hell did people vote Tory or Labour because it was obvious this shitshow would be inevitable?

Villssev · 02/04/2023 16:29

ThunderDad · 02/04/2023 16:17

Half the country are struggling to pay their gas bill. Maybe there are bigger issues than your ski trip.. just saying.

@ThunderDad let me guess… that is the sort of think you would say to your child heading back from a 17 hour delay for a holiday ultimately cancelled?

jgw1 · 02/04/2023 16:30

Villssev · 02/04/2023 16:22

@jgw1

I think you need to be more creative in your thinking. Why not redefine when the Easter holidays are, to say the middle of November?

You can’t have a school trip such as this ie only a very small number of the school will sign up and attend during term time.

@Villssev I think you misunderstand me. If one says that the Easter holidays are two weeks in November, then that is when they are and it is not term time.

Much like if one says that every year when the UK was in the EU there were delays at Easter at Port of Dover then it must be true, whether or not it actually is.

I live near doer and I'm pretty sure it has nothing whatsoever to do with the tories!! The wind here is ducking awful and has been like this for at least a week.. the boats simply are not safe to sail. 🤷🏼‍♀️ what the heck has that got to do with politics

Yet even the ferry companies aren't claiming that that is the reason for the problem.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 02/04/2023 16:30

And which of you voted for Brexit? I didn’t but many of you did.

SerendipityJane · 02/04/2023 16:20

This thread won't age well when the Tories win the next election.

That's even funnier than some of my posts, well played.

itsgettingweird · 02/04/2023 16:32

Have you even read one word of my post?

You could have 100 people checking passports but that won't speed up the loading.

ANPR won't speed up loading either - it just moves the 'bottleneck' on to the dock.

So if they can't load up the coaches and lorries at speed why are they actually selling and running the number of boats they are?

So,etching in your argument dies t add up even though I know what you're saying about loading is correct.

Indeed. They are running extra sailings over night. But perhaps the wind goes to bed then...

Villssev · 02/04/2023 16:28

Oh sorry @jgw1 !! 😣

@Villssev is that for the nonsesne statement that there were long delays at the Port of Dover every year at Easter when the UK was a member of the EU?

IClaudine · 02/04/2023 16:35

Lots of rich Tories have got even richer? Oh and we got rid of some disabled and old people via benefit cuts and mishandling of covid.

itsgettingweird · 02/04/2023 16:36

Not really a good example. This was an actual delay in response to a terror attack.

I was working in an airport abroad during 9/11. Very few (literally a handful only and 1 woman was about not having a clean thing for the morning 🙄🤔) people complained about being diverted or grounded.

This is a delay at a time where it's known to be peak travelling season. Nothing has been put in place to prevent such troubles.

MavisMcMinty · 02/04/2023 16:36

The Tories have totally FUBARed the UK since 2010. It will take at least another 20 years to even get us back to where we used to be, by which time I’ll be 80. Fair to say the Tories and the ducking aunts who voted for them and the catastrophic Tory Brexit have ruined my retirement. I will never forgive them/you.

Delatron · 02/04/2023 16:37

Villssev · 02/04/2023 16:13

Oh come on.

a learning experience.

id be happy for my children not to have learning experiences that involve 17 hours coach delays and then a holiday cancelled

Yes after all the things they missed out on from Covid. This is a ‘learning curve’ too far. Poor kids.

AMealASucculentChineseMeal · 02/04/2023 16:37

@Sockloon genuine request: please can you share how you've made the most of it and are better off? Many of us are struggling so if you have tips that could help it would be good to hear them.

Rosula · 02/04/2023 16:37

ImSweetEnoughDarlin · 02/04/2023 13:58

Yabu. Brexit was the result of shit policies started by Tony Blair, so this can't be blamed on the Tories imo.

This thread may now have reached peak batshittery.

Do tell, how exactly do you contend that Blair engineered every utterly stupid decision the Tories have taken about Europe since 2015?

OP. How dare you spend your hard earned money on your son doing a school trip where he not only gets to do a sport, but to expect to travel to another country to do it? What fancy ideas! You've only yourself to blame you know.

AMealASucculentChineseMeal · 02/04/2023 16:38

@jgw1 when you say Keir do you mean Keith? You've missed a trick

IClaudine · 02/04/2023 16:33

At night the French can't see the ferries, so they can't interfere with them.

Rosula · 02/04/2023 16:40

PinkSyCo · 02/04/2023 14:02

And what about the kids who could never dream of going on a family holiday costing £1500, let alone having that much spent on them alone?

Start another thread about economic inequality, it's not relevant to this one.

I think until we have a post saying that the problem is that the French don't know what a woman is and that is the problem, then we haven't reached the peak.

ThunderDad · 02/04/2023 16:42

IClaudine · 02/04/2023 16:25

People in Ukraine would love to have a home to struggle to pay their gas bill on. Maybe there are bigger issues to worry about...just saying.

The Ukraine isn't our problem. Do you know any Ukrainians? Have you ever been there? There are plenty of people in the UK who would love to have a home. If we deported everyone who is here illegally / pretending to be a refugee then there would be homes for everyone, perhaps even at a price that normal people can afford. But yes you are right that there are even bigger problems in the world than gas bills. Really though you are just bringing up Ukrainians to show everyone that you are a kind and empathetic person.. am I wrong?

DivaDarling · 02/04/2023 16:44

You do realise that if Corbyn, in all his votes, is against Europe-even sometimes breaking the party line to do.

So Fuck Corbyn too, eh OP?

And you do realise that the ferry companies have admitted taking too many coach bookings but maybe you know that the Tories insisted that they did so.

You sound about 16. Are you on a coach with your teachers?
