School ski trip cancelled due to chaos in Dover - fuck the tories

1000 replies

TheColourofspring · 02/04/2023 10:57

My 15 year old son has just spent 17 hours in a coach in dover waiting to go on a much anticipated ski trip. It’s cost us over £1500 over a year and we hoped, given everything our kids lost over covid, it would be a positive experience.

The school just notified us to say that now- due to health and safety, drivers hours etc- the trip needs to be cancelled and the kids are on their way back from dover.

Absolutely FUCK the lying Tory cunts - they ruin everything. They try and blame the French yet all of this lies at their door. Fuck them all for ruining 100 kids trip (and probably thousands more) and ruining everything they touch with their stinking corrupt lies and their lies about brexit.

My son was in tears.

I'm sure the children will be disappointed however this kind of thing (as with Covid) probably is a huge learning curve which they would not have had otherwise. They will realise that things don't always go to plan. They will learn to be resilient (hopefully).

People have plenty of opportunities to learn this sort of thing, without having to be happy because they've suffered disappointment due to a totally incompetent government.

Oblomov23 · 02/04/2023 16:15

Your poor son. We would all be mightily pissed off. However some posters blame game here seems not right. The government has known about this for ages, the extra passport checking. And has not addressed it.

Plus sorry to blame those people organising the trip, because they do it unpaid. But plans should have made, re leaving earlier, the coach drivers hours etc. none of this is a surprise and could have been navigated with better planning.

@midsomermurderess

you get it, right?!

Why are you asking her? My point has been to talk about my personal experience as a child and an adult.

“Blame it on Brexit by all means, but tbf not all Conservatives voted Leave and not everyone who voted Leave was Conservative.”

But it was Tories who lied during the referendum campaign. Still waiting for all that money to flood into the nhs and those amazing trade deals.🤔

Theredjellybean · 02/04/2023 16:16

Blame lies squarely at those that voted for Brexit..this is what "take back our borders" actually means..

ThunderDad · 02/04/2023 16:17

Half the country are struggling to pay their gas bill. Maybe there are bigger issues than your ski trip.. just saying.

Blu3Salv1a · 02/04/2023 16:17

They’re also completely useless at handling anything- Covid, immigration, NHS, education, environment….

KarlWrenbury · 02/04/2023 16:09

I’m a teacher and have never been on a coach to trip with two drivers, but then I’ve never gone as far down as ski resorts. Sometimes you meet a driver somewhere else don’t they

I wonder if it has something to do with the starting point of the journey. I also used to accompany schoolchildren to France from the North. We would start with one driver but then collect a second en route as we reached the Midlands We never encountered delays like the current ones though. It is so awful for all involved.

LeggyLinda · 02/04/2023 16:18

Isn’t that pretty much the same as what I said?

it is brexit, brexit voters and brexit advocates that caused this.

The fact that most of the conservative hierarchy are brexit supporters is more to do with political unity than anything else.

The fact is brexit caused this. You could have a pro brexit government or pro remain government. Either way you have to fix brexit to fix the borders

Rosula · 02/04/2023 16:19

Casilero · 02/04/2023 13:45

Exactly! Like on portraits of his majesty at 8 million.

And allocating billions of pounds to overpriced contracts placed with friends of cabinet members.

LeggyLinda · 02/04/2023 16:19

Waydown · 02/04/2023 14:32

That's absolutely nonsense. Most of the current Tory leadership were Brexiteers and those who weren't ran a shockingly poor campaign. The leave campaign was full of actual lies and no one sucessfully discredited them.

As the organiser of our school’s trips abroad, my school will only let us go in a school holiday and essentially limit us to the Easter holiday by arguing many factors.

I think you need to be more creative in your thinking. Why not redefine when the Easter holidays are, to say the middle of November?

Be creative like the posters who are claiming that Brexit has been wonderful for them, or those who are claiming that every year at Easter whilst the UK was in the EU there were delays at Port of Dover.

The trouble is too many people lack imaginations. For myself I saw unicorns grazing on sunlit uplands yesterday while out for my walk.

These comments are just so silly. There are always bigger problems around. In this country and others. Doesn’t mean that people are never allowed to experience sadness, disappointment, anger etc about non-fatal issues.

Though I don’t think much generally of people who add ‘just saying’ after comments, unless they are under 18.

This thread won't age well when the Tories win the next election.

How do you plan better for something that wasn't an issue before?

@Sockloon how has Brexit made you better off? Please do tell.

No, taking back control of our borders means stopping foreigners that we don't like coming here, not stopping us going on holiday. That is quite different.

You can’t have a school trip such as this ie only a very small number of the school will sign up and attend during term time.

roarfeckingroarr · 02/04/2023 16:22

Why just the Tories? Most Tories I know voted to remain.

What about the non-Tory eurosceptics?

How about fuck Corbyn for not really opposing brexit?

Or how about fuck the EU for not giving meaningful concessions when Cameron went to negotiate, which led to many voting to leave?

Or fuck the other parties for not providing what people saw as a good alternative to Boris at the 2019 election?

Or just fuck 52% of the public who voted?

Rosula · 02/04/2023 16:24

JudgeRudy · 02/04/2023 13:46

Hang on. Didn't we have a referendum on Brexit. The people voted, the government acted.

We had a totally unnecessary referendum where the Tory Government totally messed up their campaign against Brexit, and where the likes of Johnson and Rees Mogg were allowed to get away with blatant lies. The vote wasn't binding but the Tories had painted themselves into a corner so that they couldn't tell the Brexiteers that they were all bonkers and of course they weren't going to comply with the result.

And we didn't have any referendum on leaving the Single Market and Customs Union.

itsgettingweird · 02/04/2023 16:25

I'm far from ignorant, thank you. And I thought that everyone was bright enough to comprehend that the vote for Brexit was a reaction to the amount of immigration in the Labour controlled years? We're all literally too British to riot in the streets a la France, so the only way people could express their displeasure was in the polling booth. It's not a whole lot better now because every time a strategy is put in place, it gets shot down by political point scorers or dogooders and again democracy rules. We don't need 2% of the young single males of Albania in the UK but God forbid anyone deny their right to migrate here!

Except now it's been proven that we needed immigration to be able to provide our health and social care services.

Since we reduced legal immigration and free movement we've had an increase in asylum seekers via boats.

I didn't think Brexit would be terrible despite being a remainer. I was all for getting it done once the referendum vote was in.

Now I'm absolutely gutted it was done on a propaganda of lies and corruption because it's only served to benefit those it was served to benefit. Mainly Tory donors.

Rosula · 02/04/2023 16:28

Abra1t · 02/04/2023 13:49

Including four million labour supporters.

You can't blame the voters for the totally incompetent way this was implemented, or indeed for the fact that they were lied to by the likes of Johnson and Rees Mogg, or the fact that the Tory government did nothing effective to counter those lies.

Villssev · 02/04/2023 16:28
